View Full Version : Jeremy Piven's Latest Excess

Last year Jeremy Piven abruptly quit (http://www.playbill.com/news/article/124437-Jeremy_Piven_Abruptly_Departs_Broadway%27s_Speed-the-Plow_Butz_Steps_In) the Broadway revival of Speed the Plow because, according to him, he had mercury poisoning from eating too much sushi.
riiiiight
Well now poor Mr. Piven has another problem he claims was brought on by excessive consumption: Man Boobs! The Pivenator says he had been drinking 20 cups of soy milk a day (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/11/03/jeremy-piven-soy-milk-gav_n_343897.html) and the estrogen contained therein caused him to grow Moobs (http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Moobs&r=f).
I wonder if "his people" are busy working on next year's dilemma. I'll bet he grows extra sharp toe nails from eating too much jello.

12 cups, I think, but yeah - 12 cups of anything (except for water) is too much in a day, soy or not.

Bah, sorry. I mentally ran the cups (12) & years (20) lines together. Nevertheless, I still think he's a twit.

??? I'm a little baffled by the animosity towards him. What exactly makes you doubt his truthiness?

??? I'm a little baffled by the animosity towards him. What exactly makes you doubt his truthiness?Perhaps the fact that he's using lame excuses like Hg poisoning from sushi and man boobs from estrogen in soy milk.

I still don't get it. They are both actual, possible outcomes of the stated behavior. If he really was eating fish twice daily for that long, mercury poisoning is definitely possible, even likely. And it's been shown that the estrogen from as little as 2 glasses of soy milk/day can have an effect on a woman's menstrual cycle, so I'd imagine that 6x that amount would carry the potential for some pretty drastic results (such as gynecomastia).
I just don't get the instant hostility towards the claim? What exactly did he do to SM that he so desperately wants to discredit him?

ok, he stood him up for a date once. S'maniac didn't want me to tell anyone, but there it is.

Because I think Piven is foisting truthiness on us, not truth.
Because I think he's a moron. Why would he eat all that sushi? Why would he drink all that soy milk? Why does he do things to such excess?
Because I think he quit Speed the Plow because he was in over his head, couldn't handle the rigors of Broadway, and made up an excuse to get him out of his contract rather than admit he wasn't up to the task.
Do I have a personal beef against him? No, he's done nothing to slight me personally*. I think he's a spoiled Hollywood star who has learned to not take responsibility for his actions.
*other than that date thing, but that's water under the bridge

*shrug* I guess I don't see his claims as all that far fetched. For the record, he never claimed to be eating sushi twice a day, he said he ate fish twice a day. Which, if it weren't for the fact that it tends to be pricey, and the known risks of mercury, I myself WOULD eat fish twice a day. I love fish and, aside from the mercury issue in quantity, is way healthier than other meats.
Yeah, that's a lot of soy milk. But then I consider people who drink 8 glasses of water a day a bit looney, so I guess that puts him at about the same level on my looney scale. Besides, aren't you someone who's been known to carry a gallon of milk with you for a day out on the town?
As far as I can tell, what he's reporting are reasonable outcomes of a couple slightly eccentric dietary choices. Doesn't seem like that big of a hit on his character to me.

My love of milk is well documented. But I'm not blaming my moobs on dairy products or trying to weasel out of a contract by claiming calcium poisoning.

Please point out the vetted studies that link plant estrogens to man boobs. The guy is full of **** and deserves to be mocked. Why are you so quick to defend him?

I'm confused why folks think I hate him. I never used that word in any of my posts about him. His actions make me roll my eyes, I think he's trying to pull the wool over our eyes, but I don't hate him. I'm just calling him out on what I believe to be bullshďt.

I thought he was very funny in Music From Another Room, which is a weird little movie to like, but there it is. I can't think of much else off the top of my head that he's been in, but I think he's a pretty funny guy. I seem to remember he's either done some projects or is friends with John Cusack.
The excessive stuff is a little nutty though. I mean, that's a whole lotta fish and soy milk.

I'm with SM re: Piven. Bored, over his head, whatever. To suddenly quit a show on Broadway, leaving a cast hanging w/o their marquee name, is the height of self-centered unprofessionalism. The guy's becoming a professional whiner.
Someone should stick him and Kanye West in a reality show somewhere and let them out sympathy-troll each other.

I don't think he's been talking about it everywhere. It was probably kind of a humorous anecdote at the end of a press junket. If you had to give 100 interviews in quick succession, I bet you'd start telling weird stories, too.
And I wouldn't be surprised if he was exaggerating for the humor of it. I think they're taking a gag and trying to turn it into a serious answer.
ETA: In the direct quote, he never said he actually grew breasts. He just said that soy milk has enough estrogen TO grow breasts. The HEADLINE says "he started to grow breasts."

Marquee name???? Half of us posting here have no idea who he is. This thread is the most we've ever heard of him.

PCU (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0110759/), one of my favorite movies ever, and in my top fav 3 college movies.
I don't have HBO so I don't watch Entourage, but he's on that too.
I've seen him in other minor things and I've always enjoyed his work. Was bummed when Cupid (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0168326/) was canceled after only one season.

Well, I followed the imdb links above. I still don't recognize him, and I've never seen anything he's in. But that, in turn, linked to a piece claiming - quite plausibly I think - his man boobs response was in jest to a silly interview question.
I have no reason to doubt this. Even if he is a wanker who used a lame excuse to get out of a performance contract, there's nothing to say he's not riffing on his own bad reputation this time.
