Okay, so here's a discussion for ya. The college of cardinals will be meeting in the next few days to appoint the next pope.
Understand first of all that I'm not a believer in astrology or occult, etc. However, I'm fascinated intellectually by the whole Nostradamus phenomenon. I've been scouring the net, trying to find Nostradamus' pope predictions, because it is said that he predicted all of them from his time forward, but only two more. Well, I haven't found anything that simply lays out the quatrains and translations specifically on popes, but I did find some references to "the glorious olive". One site says the pope predictions were written by St. Malachy (which would explain why I've been having difficulty finding the Nostradamus predictions, though many sites still claim he did predict the popes).
At any rate, I'd love to hear anyone's contributions to this discussion - either interpretations of "glorious olive", or presenting links to the source material I see, or perhaps a smashing down of this concept, like "hey stupid, here's the predictions and it's not time for glorious olive, here's what you should be looking at". Now, this is not a general discussion of whether you think ALL Nostradamus/St. Malachy predictions are bogus or not, but if you have information specifically pertaining to the papal predictions therein, you're welcome to debunk to your heart's content.
Now, here's my interpretation: I think it's in reference to skin color. I think the next pope will be African. The news keeps mentioning some Nigerian cardinal as a front-runner for the job, which seems to make sense.

I think the next Pope's favorite drink will be the Martini - he will be famous for asking for extra olives at some heads of state function.

Or maybe he will be a closet Popeye fan hiding his secret love for Olive Oyl. ;)
But, seriously. I would love to see Cardinal Francis Arinze of Nigeria succeed Pope John Paul II. I really like him.

Here (http://www.catholic-pages.com/grabbag/malachy.asp) is just one of many pages describing the prophecies. This page is skeptical, and there are few things I like better than a good skeptic. :p

Yeah, but then he'll just be criticised for worldliness. You have to admit, JP's had some pretty swanky accoutrements, up until the cypress box, anyway..... Even that was sort of retro-swanky- sort of a 'where I am going I don't need jewel encrusted ornaments' sort of thing.

Could mean he's from Greece or even Spain, both known for their olives. Heck, even Italy! Could be a last name. Could mean anything, really...

Well, I have less than 100 pages to read in Angels and Deamons, so hopefully I'll get a Pope soon.

Hey, a bit off topic, but did you know the Mormons have been retro baptising past Popes? Just read that today. Can't wait to ask the MIL about that.....

Well, we should know the answer any time now -- CNN reports white smoke and bells.

Does that mean "new Pope," or "toaster oven pizza and smoke alarm"?

Why, Morigoon, would you think you're going to hell for an observation regarding the new ex-nazi head of an archaic, homophobic, sexist organization that promotes the spread of fatal disease as an alternative to birth control?

"The Glory of the Olive. The Order of St. Benedict has said this Pope will come from their order."
Benedict XVI...freaky!

Hmm. I'm trying to withold my judgement of Pope Ratty, but I will say that I highly doubt a GERMAN CONSERVATIVE who hates gays is likely to be the pope that allows women or married priests, which I think the church needs to do to cut down on all the pedophilia and bring people back in.

But the prophecy is still wrong. He's not a Benedictine.
