$675 for a new cat tree? Cool as it may be.....

life-like cat tree (http://www.catsplay.com/pthmediumtree.php3)

Can't I just go to Golden Gate Park and pick up a tree limb, wouldn't she love that, too?

Or, since GD is nearly done with the closet project, got some spare time before the new guest arrives?

Get this one instead. It's a little over $200.

Our cat never shows the slightest interest in things like this. At least not cheap ones, which makes us to cautious to try a big fancy expensive one that might be too her recreational liking.

That's expensive!

Heck, to make it, just grab a good solid branch, then drill some holes and attach some silk greenery with hot glue.

Then, buy some thick wooden photo frames, remove the glass, and add upholstery fabric or berber carpet pieces.

Attach the frames to the branch, using screws and some small wooden pieces for support.

Voila! "Realistic" cat tree for a fraction of the price. ;)

I notice shipping to California is over $300.00, so that darn thing costs over a grand!

I like Disneyphile's idea. We got ours by sheer luck, though- it would have been $150, but Rose got it from work for free.

(Question 2, specifically)

We had a scratching post for Pigeon, but she preferred the couch also.

for that much shipping it'd be easier to buy the damn thing a seat on a bus

Every time I look at this thread, I read it as "I love my cat butt"

Well, as fat cat butts go, Tango's is pretty cute. ;)

I took some cardboard mini drums from work (that were going into the trash, but were clean) and cut the bottom off one and removed the lid making a tube. Then I took another one and did the same thing, then cut it in half. I covered them, the plywood base (from scrap), and some 4 by 4 post (also scrap) with carpet (from our house when we had new carpet installed) and made one for free. After about 5 years it got pretty ratty and I tossed it or I'd post a picture. I got the design from one I saw at Petsmart.

I don't know any dog or cat who wouldn't try to chew that thing off the second they got the opportunity.

But(t) it is funny!
