Often when I see old photos, expecially ones from the nineteenth century, I find it hard to picture the person as someone whose face I might expect to see in the modern world. Every once in a while, though, a contemporary looking face stands out, and I think, "She looks like she might be fun to get to know." Except, of course, she's very, very dead.

And the fellow on the left is probably about 12, which would make him about 67 today (if he hasn't already died from cirrhosis of the liver since he has obviously started drinking at a young age - note the drink he is about to pick up with his right hand).

I'm amused by all the comments about drinking, when aside from the cocktail glasses all the subjects still seem in control. I don't see the droopy eyed drunk look I spy in many contemporary party pics.
This does make me want to pull out the home movies from 1963 of a party my parents had with friends - there's at least included bits of a girl passed out on the floor - now that's a real party.

And to think all of those people could have gone to Disneyland's opening.
I would have said the party was New Years, but the hats and decorations say otherwise (normally a "55" would appear on something). It could be a birthday party, but it looks rather formal, so perhaps a wedding announcement party, or anniversary?
And was it that common to wear loud socks then??

Watching her husband rhumba with another woman, Rita slips into a mellow, Bourbon-y rumination.
LOL
Agree with € on this... they don't look nearly as bad as drunk party-goers do today.

I presume you mean 28 year olds and not twenty 8-year-olds.
Okay, hideous joke aside, I've got to get to transferring more of my box olf old movies. I'm sure I have party footage from the 50s and 60s.
