From the front page of Air America's website (http://airamericaradio.com/):

1) Should Pope John Paul II be cannonized as a Saint?

I say yes, because it would be cool to have someone from our times be called a Saint.

In reality I don't care much, not really believing in Saints and being Jewish and all. ;)

Are you just pointing out that they mispelled canonized? (I didn't see the poll on that site.) Or are you really asking?

Pope John Paul II was the one who changed the process of canonization, so, I guess it would be cool poetic justice if he was named a saint.

It's a fairly drawn out process, though. First a dead person is named "venerable." Then, after evidence of one miracle performed in the dead person's name, they become "beatified" or "blessed" and only after a second miracle is documented in the dead person's name does the person become a saint.

And that, I suppose, should be my post in the geek off thread.

Not yet, yo. Part of the church that troubles me is the hokey-pokey around canonization. People are fallible. Some do good work. I think there should be much time between death and sainthood so that it's the longevity of the person's work and not the 'miracle' that makes it happen. So Mother Teresa would beat John Paul to the punch, for instance.

Hmm. I'm not a very good Catholic, am I?

You know.....I'd rather be a Knight than a Saint (as if I have a choice ;) )

I guess you could say that Hunter S. Thompson was cannonized. :)
