It would appear my Stepmother has booked a trip for her and my Dad to Escondido. They are staying at the beautiful Lawrence Welk resort, her words not mine. I just keeping thinking about bubbles;)
My Dad is not thrilled. So he asked my advice on what to do. We didn't really travel that far up the coast from San Diego, so I told him the Wild Animal Park was pretty cool. I thought he was a little old to go to Legoland:evil:
Is there anything great for old people to do up there? Any not to miss sights or places to get a great bite to eat? I'd like if my dad could at least have a little fun on his vacation, it's not like they get away from my nephew very often! It's also almost the only time he gets to eat good food.
Thanks for any ideas you might have. I'm going to go check out trip advisor.

The resort is actually supposed to be pretty nice. The Wild Animal park isn't really all that far. There's a casnio out near there somewhere as well, I've never been.
They're just over the hill from Temecula and they have vineyards and wine tastings there if that's something they might enjoy.
The Stone Brewery (http://www.stonebrew.com/) is also in Escondido. They have tours and a really good resturant - make reservations or it can be a long wait. (call for directions your GPS will not get you there - nor will googlemaps)
They're really only a half hour or so from Downtown as well.

I figured the Animal park should be close as I remember it not being that far from Legoland. We just spent most of our time in San Diego so that was the only stuff I could think of.
The vineyards sound like something my dad would enjoy, thank you! I'll check into it.
Sadly my Stepmom doesn't travel well so I was hoping to find things close to the resort. I giggle every time I think of Lawrence Welk as a resort, sorry. I'm sure there's golf or stepmom wouldn't have picked it. I told him there was lots of fun to be had in San Diego, just in Balboa park alone but I doubt he'll get her there!
Thanks for any suggestions!

I figured the Animal park should be close as I remember it not being that far from Legoland.Apparently, it is 17.7 miles from Lawrence Welk Resort to the Animal Park (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=15500+San+Pasqual+Valley+Road,+escondido,+ca&daddr=Lawrence+Welk,+Escondido,+CA+92026&hl=en&geocode=&mra=ls&sll=33.2254,-117.139249&sspn=0.010195,0.01929&g=Lawrence+Welk,+Escondido,+CA+92026&ie=UTF8&t=h&z=12)

Isn't Escondido where the flower fields are?

I think that's Carlsbad.
I don't know if this is a good one, since you said they may not go far from Welk Village, but, I love San Juan Capistrano. A nice stroll about as well as places close by to eat.

Oh yeah, Carlsbad. Still, close enough to enjoy on a trip.

Stone brewing is a great place to visit if he likes beer. It's quite the facility and is always full of people. They have a nice tour of the brewery and hiking trail nearby.
