I am in the process of putting some of my jewelry up on Etsy and would like to decide upon and secure a domain name. I really like Adornments.com (or adornment.com) but both are taken. So I'm trying to modify this name a bit without getting too over the top. (I want to avoid things like "for you", "store" etc) I probably want to stick with a .com but I'd be open to other options.
I would like to keep the name open enough to be able to add different types of craft to the site in the future (ie: wearable art).

On your list, I like Art of Adornment.
Are you picking a style or era you're going to emulate? How would you describe it? Words like Vintage are so overused.

I want to keep the name reasonably open so that it doesn't sound to pigeonholed. If I want to expand the "shop" to have home goods or hair accessories or whatnot the name would still suffice. That's why I like the word "adornment" because you can adorn anything from your self to your house. I think the key overriding idea is "accessories" for the body and home. I agree that vintage and retro are overused terms these days and encompass a WHOLE lot of styles.

I like "Modern Adornment" but it's kind of a mouthful, or a keyboard full. www.modernadornment.com is a long url (says the guy who came up with www.loungeoftomorrow.com - but we're about keeping the riff-raff out, not inviting the customers in :p). If you go with it, you might want to consider also registering an abbreviated version of the domain (like ModAd.com) along side it, just to give customers something easy to remember and type.

And, what's all of this stuff that gets added on to Go Daddy? My $10 registration quickly ballooned up to $100. Do I need all of this other stuff? Do I need to hold every other version of the name with .net, .org etc? I don't think I need an email address since - or do I? And, do I want Private Registration? Am I really going to get slammed with spam without it? (Of course, I'm using my home address, so maybe that one is worth it.)

And...GD will probably have more experienced answers than I, but here is my $0.02:
Do I need to hold every other version of the name with .net, .org etc? - No
I don't think I need an email address - or do I? I would, but it probably isn't necessary. If you don't, make sure that the an email address is prominently displayed. (Well, even if you do get an associated email address, make sure it is prominently displayed.)
And, do I want Private Registration? Am I really going to get slammed with spam without it? (Of course, I'm using my home address, so maybe that one is worth it.) Since you are using your home address, I would go with the Private Reg. There's enough weirdos in the world (besides me) that you really don't want having access to your home addy.

No, no, private maybe.
Where will you be hosting the actual site? They will provide email addresses with your domain, included in the hosting fee. Don't take godaddy's, it's not necessary. Unless you plan on using godaddy as your host (I wouldn't).

Jing Jing-a-ling-a. JingJing.com?
By modern, do you mean contemporary? Or do you mean modern as in early to mid-twentieth century? The term modern adornment makes me think of something I'd see in a 50's issue of McCall's or BH&G.

I think if adornmentsbylisa and artofadornment are available, they should be grabbed and pointed to whatever the final site is, because they're both excellent names (and could be used as sub-stores later). Also, if buymystuffdammit is available, it should be grabbed with all haste and used to sell geek goodies. No, seriously.

Don't chose a URL with dashes in it. Think of all the site you go to... Do any of them have dashes in the name? The only one I can think of is coca-cola.com. People just don't use dashes in their URLs.
All you need from GoDaddy is the registration. No email, no extra add-ons, etc. They try and upsell so much crap that you don't need. Private registration isn't necessary, but if you are worried about a stalker or getting spam or junk mail you maybe might want it. I personally don't use private registration and I've never had an issue with junk mail or anything like that.
I'd be happy to get you a coupon code and walk you through the process of purchasing the domain or do it for you. It will cost under $8 if you don't add on the private registration.

On a side note, modadornments.com is available. You can always call the site Modern Adornments, and use the shorter URL for the address...
Also of note, modernadornments.com is expiring in September and it doesn't seem like the domain holder has plans for it. I'd say it's likely to become available shortly thereafter.

I almost broke my brain over this one, but when it came down to it, I didn't want a dash, I wanted a .com and I didn't want anything closely related that could be confused with my site. Plus, I kept forgetting the name I "wanted" and kept calling it the name that was available. I guess that's what I needed to choose, so I did.
Inspiredadornments.com is it.
Not that this is a reason not to use it but when I first read it I parsed it as "inspire dad ornaments." My brain just provided the missing a.
