The Lowdown
We arrived in Los Olivos around 10:30am looking for some breakfast off the beaten path. I was craving bacon and after 30 minutes of wandering from closed restaurant to closed restaurant we encountered two people chatting on the street. They asked what we were up to and we explained we were going to go wine tasting and wanted to get some breakfast or brunch first. Apparently nowhere in Los Olivos serves breakfast. I must have looked sufficiently pathetic when I said "I just wanted some bacon" that the owner/chef of Patrick's Side Street Cafe offered to cook some up some of his the worlds best bacon special order.

The Gig
Brunch

The Grub
I had a chef's special order - BLTA and a cup of sweet onion soup.
My partner in crime had the daily special - an Italian Panini and a side salad with hazelnut dressing.

The Scene
Patrick's Side Street Cafe is just off the main drag of wineries in Los Olivos. Patrick is the loud, opinionated owner whose sense of humor isn't for everyone, though I suspect most of LoT would enjoy it. He has a reputation around town and the Sheriff knows him by name. I thought it was awesome and totally fulfilled my visualization of what a small town is like.

The lunch prices, starting around $15 are pricey for a sandwich and soup or salad. Service was awesome: prompt yet unobtrusive. Having run into Patrick on the street we got there before opening and I could see it filling up quickly with not much room for a crowd to wait.

My BLTA was delicious. The bacon was some of the best I've ever had. Brown sugar and molasses and cooked perfectly. He said it's not available to the general public but I'm on a hunt. The sweet onion soup smelled heavily of garlic yet the taste was of sweet onions with just the right hint of garlic.

My bacon craving with a twist of fate led us to this tiny cafe/restaurant and the food/experience was worth the wait.
