OMG this is so rad.

I'm doing a lot of photoshop work lately. Never have had much occasion before, but I've taken on the project of scanning 40 years worth of film photos into the digital realm of modern photos. They need a lot of work. Not only the shots themselves, but I can't take the photos off the pages, so they're often partially obscured by other photos, or made into triptichs or panoramas with odd shapes that, once in the rectangular shape of a computer image, are missing lots of information.

When, when, when is this available? Coolness, ultra-freaking-coolness!

I keep thinking of all the photoshop professionals this will make unnecessary hires. The number of work hours that this replaces is astounding.

I'm sure those not familiar with photoshop thought this was how it worked before...not so! ;)

OMG! Even I can do that!!! (And I think I'm getting a new version of PS real soon!)

It is cool, but as for putting professionals out of business I would want to see those images at much better quality. Can you use that product after just those steps or does it just remove the initial grunt work leaving more time for the professional skills of fine tuning the clean-up?

But yeah, with this Iran will be able to do a much better job creating missile test hoax photos.

And now I'm afraid to ask - - - how much will it cost? I have a feel this coolness is going to be out of my reach.

I saw this yesterday and drooled. It's going to save me days of time on 3D photo montages.

Of course, I'll get the upgrade as soon as it's available.

Thankfully, price isn't much an issue for me, because I have connections to get it at cost. (Seriously 90% off.) Most single CS4 apps cost me around $75. :) (Fully legit, in its original packaging, acquired through legal means.)

But yeah, there will probably be some learning curve on how to make best use of the new tools.

This is going to make them a billion dollars...and it's still probably going to be the most-stolen software of all time.

The idea of trudging through regular PS while this is actually available is going to be torture.

innerSpaceman
05-07-2010, 08:00 AM
Yep, I'm being tortured right now. But there's no way I can afford to buy the real thing, even though I'm going to be using it heavily for the next few months. After that, though, I expect my usage to drop off dramatically.

I know my bro-in-law will have it, 'cause he uses P-Shop professionally. I guess I could just go over there for the jobs that need it. Right now, I'm dying to play with it.

Does Elements include the "Unbelievable" stuff?

Ghoulish Delight
05-13-2010, 09:35 AM
I don't believe it does. I'm not finding a direct comparison between elements and CS, but neither am I seeing terms like "content-aware" on any of the Elements feature descriptions.

When my CS5 comes in, I'm going to sell my CS4 Production Premium, which includes Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash, Premiere, After Effects, Encore, Soundbooth, and Bridge. (My CS5 will be a full version, so I can uninstall CS4, so it can be licensed to the new owner.) If anyone's interested, PM me. :)

Does Elements include the "Unbelievable" stuff? There is absolutely no way you're going to get this tech for 55 bucks in 2010. I wouldn't be surprised if they jacked their usual price by a few hundred.

Yeah, I guess I don't get marketing. Given that we are talking software it seems like selling it to 1,000,000 people for $54.99 would be better than 10,000 people at $549.00

Charging a lot has worked for them for many years, and with this juggernaut of an upgrade, they can charge whatever they please. It's like being able to buy magic.

Nope! Still around. And the new CS5 version has quite a few nice additions too, especially an instant keyer with swappable backgrounds (that's green screen removal). :)

Student and teacher version of Photoshop CS5, which comes out on May 25, on sale at amazon for under $200. 80% off list price of $999.True (http://www.amazon.com/Adobe-Photoshop-Extended-Student-Teacher/dp/B003D8XEJA/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&s=software&qid=1273800111&sr=8-4), but you need to provide evidence of qualification before you get your serial number. From here (http://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.html/ref=amb_link_352857382_1?ie=UTF8&docId=1000494291&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=hero-quick-promo&pf_rd_r=09EMJPGNKWREJT4VJTRC&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_p=1260060802&pf_rd_i=B003D8XEJA):Required Proof of Eligibility: In order to install the Adobe Student Edition software, you (or the person you are buying the product for) must first obtain a serial number by submitting proof of eligibility to Adobe according to the instructions included with the product. The following is needed to provide evidence of eligibility:

Students must provide a photocopy of a valid, current student ID that includes the student’s name, date, and a photo. If the student does not have such an ID, he or she must instead provide a photocopy of a valid photo ID and one of the following items:

- Official, current non-photo student ID with name and date
- Official, current school transcript indicating name of school and student
- Official, current school tuition bill indicating name of school and student

Restrictions on use:
Individuals may purchase only one license of any Adobe Student and Teacher Edition. If you own a full existing version of Photoshop, you can upgrade to PS CS5 (http://www.amazon.com/Adobe-65048599-Photoshop-CS5-Upgrade/dp/B003B32B2S/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=software&qid=1273800367&sr=8-1) for $190.99 (same price for Mac). You need to own a CS2, CS3, or CS4 version to upgrade.

Since the full version goes for $660 (http://www.amazon.com/Adobe-65048331-Photoshop-CS5-Mac/dp/B003B32B0U/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&s=software&qid=1273801123&sr=8-9) (on Amazon - YMMV) and you can buy a full copy of PS CS2 on eBay for $200-$250 (I've seen as low as $150, but it is probably a tough find), if someone was truly Jonesing for a full version, it would be cheaper to buy CS2 on eBay and buy the upgrade for $200.
