Big news on the computer graphics software front this morning: Adobe, the creators of Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat, and a number of other software packages is set to aquire Macromedia (think Macromedia Flash) for a cool $3.4 billion in an all-stock transaction. This will eventually affect just about every web developer and graphics artist out there in one way or the other.

I'm actually pretty happy about this. The intergration of Dreamweaver and Photoshop will be nice (providing Adobe doesn't ditch Dreamweaver and go with GoLive...ick). I can't stand having to use Fireworks.

Wow. That's big news. Macromedia Dreamweaver and Flash have dominated Web programs for several years, while Adobe InDesign is increasingly chipping at QuarkXPress' dominance in print desktop publishing. Adobe will dominate the industry more than ever now. I like software compatibility and integration, but also favor competition. It will be interesting to see how all this pans out in the next few years.

...while Adobe InDesign is increasingly chipping at QuarkXPress' dominance in print desktop publishing.I can't wait for Adobe to kick the crap out of Quark. XPress is a good product, but the company is one of the worst in the business.
