Its almost a year away. I guarantee that I will forget about this long before it opens.

But when I discover it again next year, I will be going

LACMA Website (http://www.lacma.org/art/tim-burton.aspx)

New copy:

The Los Angeles County Museum of Art will present Tim Burton, a major retrospective exploring the full range of Tim Burton's creative work, both as a director of live-action and animated films, and as an artist, illustrator, photographer, and writer. Taking inspiration from popular culture, fairy tales, and traditions of the gothic, Burton has reinvented Hollywood genre filmmaking as an expression of a personal vision.

On view at LACMA from May 29 through October 31, 2011, the exhibition brings together over 700 drawings, paintings, photographs, moving-image works, storyboards, puppets, concept artworks, maquettes, costumes, and cinematic ephemera, including art from a number of unrealized and little-known personal projects. Many of these objects come from the artist's own archive, as well as from studio archives and private collections of Burton's collaborators.

Necessary Tori-swanking.

Yep. I passed on getting a LACMA membership for less-public-crazy viewings and such ... but it's a Must for me, too. So Tori-swanking is a certainty.

What dates are you going to be here, ToriBear?

June 18th through the 23rd. :D

Um, shouldn't we get tickets, like, NOW?!

If you're a LACMA member you'll be getting an invite to a reception for Tim Burton on June 29th- requires RSVP.

Yeah, but I'm not. I don't think most of us who want to attend the exhibit are. And that weekend in June is literally my only free weekend between now and Disneyland Birthday in mid-July - so who wants to go, which of those two days, and how can we get tickets?

I think we should act as quickly as possible.

I agree, iSm- does anyone know admission price, etc? I'll get online later and check it out, but though maybe the locals would know.

Ticket info (https://tx1.lacma.org/default.asp?cgCode=1&cgName=Exhibitions)

Tim Burton is a Specially Ticketed Exhibition: You must purchase tickets for a specific date AND time. Your tickets are only valid for the date and time printed on the ticket. LACMA's permanent collection and non-ticketed special exhibitions are included in the ticket price.

Ticket Prices:

General Admission: $20
LACMA members: Free
Children, 17 years old and under: Free

Please note: there are no refunds or exchanges.

Unless it's earlyish on the 18th I won't be able to go since I am seeing U2 at Angel Stadium that evening and will need to be back in Anaheim around 4. The 19th is Fathers Day.

We get into town in the afternoon on the 18th, so that date probably wouldn't work. I think the admission price is pretty good- especially since the birthday girl gets in free! We'll need to either hitch a ride with someone or rent a car- in which case we will have to follow someone, because I have NO idea where the exhibit is at. Should we do a poll?

innerSpaceman

Yes. A Poll would be good. Too bad about the 18th not working, because the morning looked to be good for some people (who are vaguely planning on a screening of Mary Poppins in Santa Monica that afternoon).

What about Sunday the 19th, followed by bbq and party at Chez Fancy Grand Cal Villas???? Or should that be on Saturday arrival night, followed by hung-over Tim Burton exhibit the next day? :p

Fathers Day is the 19th.

Any day is good for us, but the party at Chez Fancy Cali-Grand will have to wait until November. We're staying at Chez Chateau L'Ordinaire de Sheraton Anaheim this time. There is a decent pool there, though, and lounge, etc.

We are going to the reception (I love standing in line for water down drinks), but I would love to see it before then!

SO! Um, shouldn't we buy tickets in advance for this? Suggestion: The Spokane Crew should choose a date and approximate time, and those who want to join them can buy tickets. Should be done SOON, in my humble.

Well, we will need to either rent a car or hitch a ride, so........I will put up a poll tonight- see what everyone thinks! Thanks, Steve- been busy and kind of spaced the whole thing.

Erik and I saw the exhibit and it's fun. We'll be going to the reception but only at the very start as we'll be speeding away to see my favorite film, Safety Last!, that same night.
