The cactus in front of our house has bloomed spectacularly! The blooms only last for a day and seem to come out in the early evening. As soon as they do, the bees attack and literally wallow around inside them. By tomorrow night the flowers will start to wilt and the next morning they'll be totally spent.

I don't think I ever knew that. Beautiful photos, too.

I have a cactus in my yard that produces very similar moonflowers. big as a volleyball sometimes. sadly the first rays of sunlight wilt them in what seems like minutes. I never noticed any bees around them, as theyre notoriously hard to get to in my yard.

great shots

I love the photos but what a nice first line of a surrealist poem the thread title would make.

Ha! Me too!

I figure it would be great for poetry or for just about anything, short story... novel... I could see it being the name of a song, too.

Glad I got to share them with you guys. Wish I could have bottled the smell for your sampling as well. It was divine. This morning we had a hummingbird IN one of them!
