I need recommendations for places (preferably in OC) that can do data and HD recovery from a HD that doesn't accept power (it attempts to boot and then the HD stops responding within 5 minutes).

Staples does data recovery (http://www.staples.com/sbd/cre/marketing/tech_09/data.html). I'll just assume they are in OC.

I've got a coworker who recently used a service and I thought the price was outstanding. He lives in OC and I think they were local. I'm waiting to hear back and I'll post it.

Thanks Betty and Moonie.

He wants to stay way from big chain places because of their reputation of fvcking things up and data recovery is beyond my scope and set up right now.

And he's using a drive he knew to be bad. Pot meet kettle.

I may not hear back until Monday since it's now the weekend...

No worries Betty. I told him I probably wouldn't know until Monday.

I was reading your Tweets and vents on this and was thinking "No good deed goes unpunished"

Nope. I did get paid for the first one, settled on hours spent that I was comfortable with. The one last night... luckily or unluckily the HD died. I told myself I would spend less than an hour on it if the machine would boot. Basically boot, move stuff to external, shut down.

Betty - did you hear back?
