Hi there,

It's epic, so I thought I'd share!!

The procedure only took 45 mins including a filling (on the other side of the mouth), de-scaling all the teeth, and yanking out the offending Wisdom Tooth (upper right).

Seems it had developed a bad cavity behind it (at the rear of the mouth where it joins the gumline - a notoriously hard place to access even with flossing)

As a result, the jawbone had receded to halfway down the tooth, and a rather large hole (or as I like to call it, the Antipodean Grand Canyon) had formed.

There are two pictures contained below. They are in Spoilers for the squeamish. Both are labelled clearly for your selection pleasure. One is a picture of the tooth as viewed from the front (including a souvenir piece of jawbone stuck to it).

The second is the back fo the tooth, showing the size of the cevity in relatioin to the whole tooth. It's quite astonishing, actually, but it explains why I was in such extreme agony for the last 2 weeks. There's only so much Sensodyne can do, ya know.

Here's the front of the tooth with extra added jaw-bits. This would make a great slideshow for your next halloween party.http://users.tpg.com.au/adslgroh/pics/Wisdom%20Tooth%20upper%20right%20View%202.JPG

Here's the second pic - showing the size of the cavity. Yes, the black part is the cavity. Yes, it was THAT big.

So in closing, I guess that not only is Bacon now off the list because of the heart, but Maple / Honey / Candied Bacon is DOUBLY off the menu because of dental caries. Le Sigh.

Hope this makes you all appreciate yer choppers that much more. :D

PS: I'm thinking of having the tooth bronzed and made into a LoT award for... well, something.

Ugh! I'm glad that nasty thing is out of there! I hope your jawbone doesn't miss it's friend too much.

Those would be great pics for me to illustrate what contract negotiations can feel like.

Wow! Glad you survived another procedure!

Remember the adage from Soupy Sales, Always be true to your teeth and they will never be false to you!

Congratulations on the painless extraction. It's nice to know that dentistry is not all about pain.

(I have a vague memory of a late night talk show host (Conan O'Brien?) talking about his visit to the dentist, who tried to calm him by saying "It's only pressure and noise, pressure and noise," which has become a mantra of mine when dealing with annoying people.)

I was wondering why you were always saying that around me.:D

I feel your pain Lash. I just had to have a molar removed but they didn't remove any of my jaw bone  I am now very thankful for my painful tooth because it was obviously no where near as bad as yours!

I hope they gave you some nice pain pills.

You could have had a dog chew it out.

Jeepers, lashbear! Either you were very bad in a previous life OR you've got some excellent karma coming your way.

Stay well, dear one.

Oh gosh! You scare me!! I have very bad teeth. What did I do in a previous life? What did I do in THIS life? ;)

I've had serious problems with my wisdom teeth. So glad you are okay and nothing else happened once they pulled it. I always get the warnings about this or that can happen. All the worse case scenarios. Don't happen. {pounding on wood here}

Which reminds me...I am supposed to schedule my son to have his pulled. Nothing wrong with them now, but he is on our insurance so may as well get 'er done.

If I'd have let them pull them out when I was 18, I would have saved myself a lot {and I mean a LOT} of pain.

And no I will not look at the pictures. Squeamish I am.

I got lucky and my wisdom teeth got yanked when I was a kid. Didn't know it was what I wanted, but I'm glad at this point. I know too many people who are having trouble with 'em; I'm glad mine are gone.
