Ugh. It's Everest. Do people really need to Tweet from there? Enjoy the moment, people!
Considering that people have been making phone calls (http://peakfreaks.com/sat_phone.htm) from the slopes and peak of Everest for years it doesn't seem that big of a deal (just a different transmission mechanism).
And maintaining the purity of the climbing experience seems too high a price to not get this part: "The 3G roll out will also provide residents in the area with much-needed access to advanced telecom services."

This is just plain wrong: they should have installed 4G service.

This. There is no reason residents in the area need to go without just so people can't tweet or Facebook from there.
