Isn't this (http://www.towleroad.com/2010/12/walmart.html) getting a little Orwellian? I mean, it is one thing in airports, but if this was in every retail establishment it would be a wee step backwards. Hooray for getting terrorized by our own government!

One more great reason for me to continue avoiding Wal-Mart. But really, where the hell is this culture going?!

You might want to add UPS to your list. They are now requiring a photo ID (http://money.cnn.com/2010/12/07/news/companies/ups_security_photo_id/index.htm) to ship a package.

Must keep the masses afraid! Frightened people are more easily led and controlled.

Eh, I can't get worked up about that. All they are doing is requiring their franchised/licensed stores to follow the same ID procedures they require at their retail stores.
Customers shopping at either The UPS Store or a Mail Boxes Etc. location have been included in the newest security upgrade. Since 2005, customers have had to show their photo ID when shipping from UPS Customer Centers, but the security rule is being expanded
UPS is a private corporation, not the government. If you don't like it use another method of shipping.
Is this a video from Napolitano that will be showing on video screens that Wal-Mart already has or are these being installed just for this purpose?

For the first time ever I have a desire to go to walmart - just to be suspicious

I recommend a black cape, top hat, and a long twisty mustache.

Spy on your neighbors. Lovely.
Yeah, another reason to continue avoiding Walmart. Hope it doesn't catch on anywhere else.

Of course that would mean going to Walmart - how about I just stack sacks of fertilizer into the back of a Ryder truck?

This is how we'll reduce the deficit. Her next message of fear will undoubtedly be delivered in a Nike cap while drinking a Coke.

It was nice knowing you. When "they" come to get you, I hope you'll remember us fondly.

I've been thinking about the whole nanny state/FUD/paranoia vibe going around these days and I think I'm ready for a break. Would anyone like to join me for:

I'll have to set a date, sometime after the holidays would be good. :)

I would suggest a flash mob of Magritte black suit, bowler-wearing persons carrying slender but ominous looking briefcases syncronized to disperse simultaneously to run amuck throughout local Walmarts.

There is a reason I shop at thrift stores, resale stores, farmers markets and hippie grocery's (not just because the people are SO much more interesting and attractive and I save lots of money).
Super-global corp wants you to be afraid of other people so you are too busy to be afraid of them . . . .

How about a flash mob that builds an explosive device in the wal mart using materials available in the said walmart - that would be awesome
