My yahoo just got hacked, again. My facebook yesterday. My Gmail last month. And yes I use passwords with a capital letter and number combo.

Here's my question. Is there any way to have a "protected" address book. Let me try to explain. I have a huge number of contacts that I keep because I plan my class reunions and I also have a bunch of my mothers friends that I was in contact with when she was ill. I'd like to still have access to this info but I don't need it on a daily basis. Currently I just exported my entire yahoo address book - then deleted out of yahoo the people that I don't really need to contact often. Is there another way?

I know stuff gets hacked but it's embarrassing to send spam/hacked emails to people I don't really have any contact with I just have their info just in case.

If I were really worried about that I'd make an Excel spreadsheet and keep it saved offline. As it is, I still use the Excel sheet from our wedding to look up addresses.

That's basically what I did - I exported them all to Excel then deleted out of yahoo what I don't "need" all the time. Just wondering if there's an easier way.

I would also spend some time looking for keyloggers (http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080721030114AAKxF5Q) on your PC.

was thinking the exact same thing. thats my usual suspicion when repeated hacks are encountered.

Also, just to be sure, you're using a different strong password on each site, right?

Yes different passwords. Thanks everyone I'll check for the keystroke thingie when I get home. And I've gotten all the misc addresses out of my accounts so at least I'm just spaming friends :)

I've gotten 3 of these things from friends in the past week or so. Yours, katiesue, was the only one in good English, so it might have passed my smell test if the prior two were not written in comical Engrish.

Still, I'll never think for a moment that my friends would be trying to sell me something, so at least these 3 instances didn't fool me for a second.

As for me, well it's bound to happen sooner or later. I posted a pre-apology on facebook last night. I'm not taking my contact lists off-line, and I'm not remembering a different password for every place I go.
