I was excited by the idea of redemption island.....but Boston Rob and Russel? Come ON!

Seriously, how many chances can one person get? Lame. And who the hell are the rest of these people? I don't recognize them.

Agreed. Russel is a one trick pony who's been around for two rides. It was fun watching him but I'm over it.
Best case scenario: They are setup on opposite sides as "team leaders" and get the boot one-two.

Aside from Rob and Russel they are all survivor virgins.

I wonder if Jeff will change from:
<*name*> The tribe has spoken, please bring me your torch.
to
<*name*> The tribe has spoken, but what the hell you get another shot.

No need
They, in essence, did this WAY back when to a contestant called Savage (don't remember his first name) and people are still watching. I haven't watched since then.
Have there been enough winners yet to have a show just for previous winners?

Have there been enough winners yet to have a show just for previous winners?Yes they could if almost all of them would return. They are on season 21 with this one, and they typically have 18 contestants.

I'm interested enough at this point to keep watching. We still don't know what the Redemption Island challenge will look like yet.

Wow, it usually takes much longer to get to that level of crazy.
CP noticed that they were putting a '?' at the end of Phillip's "Former Federal Agent" title after his name :D

I was totally annoyed seeing the return of Russell. However, about 30 minutes of Philip changed that. He's far more annoying in just a few minutes of airtime versus Russell's constant spotlight.

Yo! Kirstina!
The immunity idol is cool and all, but you are playing a social game. The first few hours/days are critical to becoming part of the tribe socially. Sure you have the idol but the cost was way too high.
It will be interesting to see if you can claw your way back from this. Oh and as always well done Rob, first you cozy up to Kristina just in case she found a clue then you use looking for it against her with the rest of the tribe and to cap it off you come damn close to having her give you the idol to prove her loyalty to you. Wow.
Hammers, saws, nails, rope, an entire tool kit? WTF? I thought you were supposed to win that sort of stuff. Seems weak to just hand it out day one. How can I have fun sitting on my couch if they aren't visibly suffering?

Yeah, the construction kit was first season sh!t.
But yeah, Kristina is no mental giant. Even if you HAD succeeded in your little plan, Francesca was right, all it would have left them with is 3 vs. 5. And 5 who would be pretty pissed off at you. Idiot.

I guess if you are going to shoot yourself in the foot (numbers wise) you can at least take solace in hitting the correct toe. Still tossing a challenge is a hard move to get behind. Not to mention the tarp that went to the other side.
I will definitely be watching next week for Rob's reaction when the two tribes meet up had he sees who was voted out. I think a happy smirk is a given but will he be able to control himself from laughing out loud or not.

This is by far the most entertaining pre-merge season ever.
But freaking shenanigans on the challenge recycling. Both of the challenges on that episode were total rehash. Not that they haven't reused challenge elements before, but those were just identical. Boring.

Agreed. I'm assuming building the Repetitive Island stage took some time and resources so they made up for that by re-using old stuff in this challenge. I hope that's a one time deal and not the case for the rest of the season.
This is by far the most entertaining pre-merge season ever not to have Island Goddess Stephanie.
I had to amend that for you.

Well I found that season utterly gratifying. Total validation for the idea that there IS such a thing as ideal strategy and a "right" way to play the game. Rob was nothing short of masterful and he earned that win, no doubt.
And just when I thought maybe I'd start feeling a little sorry for Matt, he says that the lesson he learned was the maybe he should, you know, think decisions through logically sometimes. Wow, what an insight.
I propose a new reality show: "Delusion-Off" staring Phillip and Coach.

Agreed. When David stood up at final tribal and said his piece, I thought, "damn straight, tell it like it is." I'm really glad that Rob won. He played an amazing game and worked very hard at it. He totally deserved it.
I was kind of surprised that Grant is still pissed off.
Wonder who will be coming back. Maybe Matt?

He totally deserved it.That's how good Rob was. Normally the person in the "pulling the strings" position makes that argument for themselves at final tribal and comes off as arrogant. Rob managed to magically get someone else to spontaneously do it for him. Hell, not just one person, but both Natalie and Phillip essentially said the same thing, giving him all the credit. Amazing.
Wonder who will be coming back. Maybe Matt?Good chance. And a coworker thinks he spotted a shot of Andrea's eyes (they are pretty recognizable), so it might be the two of them.

I thought I saw (as did my daughter) a shot of the long haired ice cream scooper guy that gave his immunity away how ever many seasons ago that was. Probably not though.

I always found Boston Rob entertaining, and while I didn't watch any of this season, it's inconceivable to me that he would not be not merely voted off at the first opportunity, but killed by the combined efforts of both tribes at the first opportunity. If the fix wasn't in, everybody had to be under some lame assed "Okay, Rob, let's help you win" hypnosis.

everybody had to be under some lame assed "Okay, Rob, let's help you win" hypnosis.
I think it was more, "Please Rob, please give me some chance of winning."
Like he said at the reunion it was all about getting his foot in the door. All he had to do was survive getting voted off first. That gave him just enough time to lull everyone into the "Well, no one's going to give him the million anyway, so why don't we use his experience to help our tribe stay strong for a while" trap. Once he got past that threshold, it was all just a matter of him doing an absolutely masterful job of keeping everyone's blinders on.
If there's one truth about Survivor it's that people will almost always prefer to stick to the plan of record if the plan of record means they get to stay for 3 more days. As stupid as it may look from the audience's view, that has always proven to be the primary motivating factor out there. So all Rob had to do was be sure that, even though it was a terrible strategy in the long term for all of them, each of them 'knew' that at least they were there for another three days if they just stuck with the plan.

I think they should have made redemption island a luxurious place to hang out and/or given the person there some sort of ability to occassionally mess with things back at camp. let them give one person a clue to something, or some special food, or a letter from home.
I know they keep changing up the game but apparently not enough for me. I'd like to see them mess with players heads more.

Redemption did end up being a bit of a bust. It made for a good story with Matt, but in terms of effect on the game - minimal. For all the talk of what influence a person coming back might have, everything just reverted back to what I mentioned in my last post - rule number one is say alive for 3 more days. Everyone with a working plan just saw the person coming back from Redemption as a wild card that would screw up whatever they had in mind, so just vote them the fvck out and get back on track. Boring.
