This makes no sense. Republican Congressman Chris Lee was caught "cheating" (read the full article (http://gawker.com/#!5755071/married-gop-congressman-sent-sexy-pictures-to-craigslist-babe) to see exactly what he did) on his wife with someone he found on Craigslist—but it wasn't with a man, it was with a woman!

Lee just resigned (http://chrislee.house.gov/index.cfm?sectionid=76&sectiontree=75,76&itemid=1392).

I was just saying to my husband, "That's kind of novel for a Republican... it was with a female"

;)

If he didn't resign for being caught as a hypocrite, he should have done so anyway for being caught as an idiot. How can a Congressman not know that anything posted on the internet is PUBLIC, and as a public figure - dot, dot dot?

What a maroon!

There's something about the side by side photos of him as suited congressman and "takin' a pic of myself to pick up chicks" that just grosses me out.

I don't know why, since I'm not one to have a cow over this type of thing (anymore), but blech.

As always I don't care if they're having affairs, I don't consider marital fidelity to really be anything that necessarily impacts your appropriateness for public office.

However, when one does have an affair I do consider your inability to think about it enough to not be really stupid about it to be a sign that I can't trust you to not be really stupid in your thinking and acting in other areas.

Exactly what I thought, CP! Even worse, I happened to be watching CNN when Wolf Blitzer broke the story. Wrap your mind around Wolf Blitzer discussing half-nekkid Republican trolling for chicks.

Yes. Dibbs on Al Franken, btw.

On behalf of me and all those I speak for, he's all yours.

Willingness to be dishonest in your marriage can be taken as a sign of willingness to be dishonest in your office, which DOES matter to the American people.

It could be taken as that. But I don't take it as that. Oh, I"m sure there's a non-random correlation between the two but I doubt it is strong enough that I could reliably assume one because of the other. Should the spouse assume the congresscritter is cheating if he is caught taking bribes?

Well, I make the stupidity extrapolation without too many qualms, so why not the dishonesty extrapolation?

It doesn't seem as likely to me. But truthfully, just because someone is stupid in one area (especially if that area is SEX), doesn't mean they will necessarily be stupid in others. Yet that's exactly why I think he's too dangerous to be a Congressman.

I don't think the relevant part of the story is he's stupid about sex (for all I know his wife was picking out the best Craigslist postings for him), I think think the relevant part is he was stupid about figuring out the best process. If he can't think through something as simple as getting some strange without getting (easily) caught then that suggests to me a deficiency much more likely (in my opinion) to carry over into arenas I care about.

But I've known many people who are unfaithful sexually and prove extremely competent and honest professionally. On the other hand, for the most part the people I know who are stupid about how they go about getting what they want tend to be stupid in most of the things they do.

Though all of that said, he is a junior congressman, a Republican from a solidly blue state, and unlikely to ever have encroached into areas I care about anyway. So I still don't care all that much.
