Just know we awoke to the sound of many robins singing. You know why they were singing? Worms. Thousands of worms, worms, worms on the sidewalks. A worm obstacle course.

Then, later that day, crispy worm bodies. Thousands of crispy worm bodies.

During this winter's wet weather, we were "fortunate" enough to never have a problem with ants in the house. I say "fortunate" because instead we got worms. WORMS!

I'll take ants.

OMG OMG OMG I would die.

True worm story: My late beagle Suzy, when she was a puppy, once ate every worm she saw on a walk after a rain. There was no stopping her. Believe me, we turned around for home as soon as she started.

We get home. The family is sitting down to dinner. Suzy begins to retch and retch and ... up come a couple of worms, up come some more. And some of them were wriggling.

I pointed to the mess and hissed to my kids, just like the Wicked Queen in "Snow White" did with the hunter. "Get them!" I said. "Clean that up!"

There are blocks on my morning dog walk that are a long hopscotch course between the worm bodies and goose splatterings from the flyovers. Could be some egret and heron poop mixed in. Mostly goose.

My labrador used to have a fondness for snails. For some reason, he gave them up.

If I recall, that was just a song tribute to the great city of Gary. But the location of all the action in the show is in Iowa. Worms and all.

Music Man takes place in River City, Iowa--where there's trouble. Gary, Indiana is where Professor Hill supposedly went to conservatory. Marian the Librarian's lisping little brother sings about it for reasons that escape me.
