Got a tweet today that they are starting up on the 14th with Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.

No updates on their website yet

Oh, yes! We never did get around to a screening last year and even if it is trendy and a bit crowded, should still be lots of fun.

Do you mean early in the season? Or early in the day we pick a show?

I missed out last year :( So yeah we should pick a show to go to in May or June (I would love to see Cat on a Hot Tin Roof but the gumball rally is that day).

I think it'd be fun to make whatever day we choose an official "be there or be square" LoT event ;) Too many people I haven't seen in forever, and it's a nice long time on the lawn to catch up!

Hey, people, why haven't we tried this yet? We can buy tickets in advance instead of waiting and not being sure if we'll get in. Plus we can either bring picnics or eat at food trucks.

http://www.outdoorcinemafoodfest.com/

I think we should go at least once, to see what it's like.

We can buy tickets in advance instead of waiting and not being sure if we'll get in.

http://www.outdoorcinemafoodfest.com/Looks like fun and should be tried. The movie selections seems a little more mainstream than what we see at the Cemetery Screenings.

While you can purchase tickets in advance, it does not appear to be reserved seating, so we would still need to get there earlier to get decent seating. Not trying to be a Negative Nellie - just an observation.

05-09-2011, 09:43 AM
Yeah, I'd give it a shot. But I'm much more keen on the cemetery's proven vibe, and their more eclectic film selection.

Will the backyard movie theater show any non-scary or non-psychological thrillers, ever?

Well, I was just looking back at the recent movie nights we've had... we watched Privilege, Evita, Kung-Pow, Bliss, The Kate Bush Christmas Special, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Model Shop, The Great Race, and The Party, so if you consider these movies psychological thrillers and scary, then I can emphatically answer "no".

That's up there with my favorite cemetery screenings evar! The audience was respectful, but so appreciative. I'll never forget when the title card "Tuesday" was met with an ear-splitting shriek of pure horror. Hahahahahahaha!!

Anyone for Vertigo on May 28? That's a pip of a film.

This info is pieced together from various sources, but it looks like advanced tickets are being sold for shows now. In addition, Paramount has offered up their lot for parking (at the cost of $10).

From Hidden LA on FB:
It looks like Cinespia has changed cemetery screening ticket policy to online purchase only (and people aren't happy). Basically, there will be one line for ticket holders and no will call. So you need to either print tickets from a pdf or pay $17 (!) for 2-day UPS shipping. There will be a separate line for standby if the event isn't full, and those can be paid for in cash.

AND....Just in from Cinespia: "Honestly, we are trying to make going to the screenings easier for you. Tickets will still be available at the gate. We now have additional parking at the Paramount parking lot at 801 n. Gower around the corner from ...the cemetery. We love our patrons, and want to make our screenings a good experience. Alot of people asked for advance tickets last year..."

Also, parking on cemetery grounds is now $10.

Not a cemetery screening, but a poorly placed post that's more of a "call back" than anything:

We're watching two recent horror flicks this Wednesday night. I haven't seen either yet, but they both scored over 80% on Rotten Tomatoes and come with positive recommendations from friends I trust. This isn't an official movie night, so BtD can't hold it against me (but is still invited of course).

Back on topic: I still don't have any plans to go to any of this year's cemetery screenings, but we did snag tix to both Flaming Lips shows...

BarTopDancer

Psycho?

LSPoorEeyorick
07-29-2011, 04:35 PM
iSm, you're all kinds of wrong. I love Breakfast at Tiffany's (bad yellowface casting notwithstanding), I think The Jerk is very fun, and Psycho is one of the best horror/thriller movies ever made. Plus, all-night psychedelia may not exactly be my scene, but isn't your self-given moniker "psychenaut"?

innerSpaceman
07-29-2011, 04:41 PM
Well, most "psychedelic" movies are just plain awful garbage, though the idea of sleeping over at the cemetery while those play in the background sounds like a fun idea reminiscent of certain New Years Eves.

Psycho in the graveyard sounds fun. But really, there's nothing but popular mainstream on the schedule this year. I used to see films I'd never before seen at the cemetery, and I miss that.

In honor of the "psy" in my moniker, though, I can vote for either of those two offerings noted above. ;)

LSPoorEeyorick
07-29-2011, 04:45 PM

Jane Birkin? Serge Gainsbourg? Joe Dallesandro? And a review like this:

the film is breathtakingly wordless at times, as Birkin’s boyish, sexually desperate snack bar owner and Dallesandro’s brutish gay garbage truck driver(!) navigate one of the most rocky and blackly humorous relationships in all of French cinema. It’s intellectually explicit, beautifully offensive, full of summer, trash and ass — an absolute must-see.
