Here's an interesting test to see if you can spot a fake smile (http://www.bbc.co.uk/science/humanbody/mind/surveys/smiles/index.shtml).

I got half of them right. If you know what to look for, the fake ones are supposedly pretty easy to spot. I obviously don't. :)

18 as well here. But I knew about the eyebrow thing.

11 out of 20.

I think context can give away a lot, too. These smiles were all totally out of context.

13 out of 20.

You got 11 out of 20 correct

Not as good as I thought I would do. I wasn't watching their mouths at all, but their eyes and cheeks. Still, I didn't do well.

Did you notice that some of the genuine ones made you unconsciously smile back?

17 out of 20 - most of my judgement came from the post-smile-recovery though.

I got 17 out of 20. Amusingly, I got all the fake smiles right, but I didn't trust some of the genuine folk.

Who me? Skeptical?

11 out of 20.

I looked at the eyes, but that didn't work out for me!

My sick mind came up with so many questions that that could be the answer to...

17.

I wonder how they got them to smile genuinely for the camera.

16 out of 20, and I'm an eye man.

Statistically equal to guessing. After reading the "hints" 18 of 20.

Plus I would just like to add, #13 is very scary looking.

I also wonder if this type of reseach has a practical application like being able to tell if a woman is faking it...

19 out of 20.

I read an article a while ago that said to look at the eyes and not the mouths. Apparently the article was right!

16 here. I could have had 18 but I was also more skeptical of a couple of the genuine smile men. A real smile kind of engages the whole face more or something, like this: :D

Plus I would just like to add, #13 is very scary looking. :eek:Yeah, many of them were odd looking British people. ;) I wonder we would do better with Americans.

Terrifying! She/he is going to give me nightmares this week!

I got 11. I identified most of the fake smiles...for me it was the eyes and post-smile looks. Some freaked me out they were so fake. And.....skeptical me....had a hard time spotting the genuines.

Yeah, many of them were odd looking British people. ;) I wonder we would do better with Americans.

Another hint, from that article I read about American vs British smiles, is that Brits tend to smile with open mouths, while Americans show off their front teeth. But I think the article may have also argued that Americans tend to employ fake smiles more than Brits, do. I can't quite remember. That may have been my own little adlib. It helped to identify genuine Brit smiles, though. In addition to the eyes, I checked to see if their mouths were opened wide.

I got 13. I wonder why I care. If someone gives me a "fake smile," I'm usually happy for their effort.

13/20
Probably should have been 14/20, but I was thrown off by #9's cuteness. ;)

And yeah, #13: chick or dude...?
