Interesting idea (http://www.mercurynews.com/business/ci_18685746)
I'm always waiting for someone I know from say a job or high school to show up on another friends list who I know from completely different circumstances. So far there has just been one, Kevy has a friend from college who is married to a friend of mine from high school.

I've had only one such connection through facebook. One of iSm's friends knows someone I went to jr. high and high school with from a dance group they've both been in for years and years. I spotted it, which lead to the amusing sequence of messages, "Wait, how do you two know each other?!?" "Dnace group. but, then, how do YOU two know each other??" "Mutual Disneyland friend. But how do YOU two know each other?!?!" "School."
I have one other connection, discovered not through facebook but through a phone contact list. Nirvanaman roomed with a friend of mine from high school while they both worked at Ford in Detroit.
Meanwhile I just tried to join in on the experiment, but I get to a certain point in the instructions and get an error on the web page, can't continue :(
I have two experiences.
Until the last couple of years I generally tried to keep several groups of friends distinct from each other. So I had work friends, Disney friends, another message board friends, and preferred they not mingle.
But Facebook kind of brought those walls down to some degree.
This revealed:
A) I know now that a member here is friends with a couple I know from a completely different sphere (because that person comments on his Facebook posts).
B) It turns out that one of the MousePlanet people went to middle school with a person I know up here but they were the ones who realized the connection through seeing each other comment on my LJ posts.

Not exactly the same thing, but I was often wondering how disparate sets of people I knew got to be 'friends' with each other on facebook. The answer turned out to be Mafia Wars, not anything small-worldish in real life. But it was very perplexing for a while.
And now I'm wondering who's the person I knew who knew someone who knew someone else who knew someone else who knew Ghoulish Delight. ;)

If I say dancing + RenFaire, I bet you can guess.

No, because when you posted "dance group they've been in for years and years" + "iSm," i already knew it had to involve the Ren Faire. So it could still be any number of people. I'm a little dimwitted today tho.
no cracks about "today," please.

How many of them do I know? (actually, I don't know the answer to that, not sure how many of your friends that I know ARE Morris dancers).
It's Ginny.

My friend S knows one of my other friends through the Tin. It was really weird seeing them posting on his page.

The person they gave me to send to - is based in Gotheberg, Sweden - where my family in Sweden is- and she works with my second cousin! :D
I signed up for the Yahoo thing. Second person in the chain (or third if you count me) is in the same field and state as the recipient.
I assume I'll be told if the recipient receives it?
My friend list is haphazard rather than exclusive. I'm just not that into FB.
One of my few FB friends is an Old School MousePadder living in my former stomping grounds, Palo Alto. Through her, I reconnected with the brother of a friend from elementary school. We're talking 45 years ago, people.

We're talking 45 years ago, people. It can track to 16 years before you were born? That's impressive.

I finally got in last night. The person it gave me is someone in Budapest, so I selected a friend who just returned from a year of traveling the world, seemed my closest link to Budapest. He sent it on to someone in Prague.
