I'm looking for an off road book for my sister in law for Christmas (who recently bought a Jeep). We bought the book a few years ago for our jeep adventures and found it so helpful. In fact, my husband and I both thought of the gift for her separately - which means it must be a good idea.

I looked online to see how much it is and was surprised to see it not only not in stock, but used for various prices from $40ish to $250+ !

Now - it's a great book - but it's not worth that much. I rather have it new than used if I can swing it.

So - here's my question for you. I live in the Inland Empire and there are NO bookstores nearby. 30-60 minutes away are some barnes and nobles but they no longer carry the book.

Some of you live in areas of So Cal that have unique, smaller bookstores. I'm hoping that if I checked in one of those, I may be able find a new copy still on the shelf somewhere. I just have no idea of any of those smaller bookstores.

Anyone have any recommendations?

Oof. Good luck. Checking the places I usually look for out of print books you may just be screwed on this one unless you get really lucky and find a bookseller who didn't properly check the value of a book before setting the price. The used prices at Amazon are actually the better ones I'm seeing

I've never had a book I owned go up in price like that. Sheesh. I would have treated it a little better. ;)

I guess carrying a book into the backcountry can result in damage.

It does tend to get more wear and tear that's for sure. I probably should have made photo copies of the trail instead of bringing it - but the book is full of great info and we often visit neighboring trails on the fly.

I'm giving up on getting a new one I guess.

I did wonder if they were putting out a new edition and that's why this one wasn't being printed. Anyone know anything about how all that works? Is there any sort of database for that sort of thing?

There's a copy of the 2002 edition for under $30 here (http://www.thriftbooks.com/viewDetails.aspx?ASIN=1930193041&fromaffiliate=true).

AND free shipping! I think it's mine! (or rather will be hers!) Thanks. :) And I can also afford to get the other smaller off road book we also like as a result. Good deal. (and that one is still easily available too.)
