July 17th. Who's in?

06-22-2012, 09:31 AM
Nope not me I have an actual pet sitting job (since I'm out of work) that entire week. Plus Matt wasn't really interested in going this year anyway.

I've never missed it, and never will. As of now, I may just go after work (but that doesn't get me there till 8pm, bah) ... and that's how I voted.
If I weren't already taking a few days off in July, I'd not hesitate to take the 17th off as I typically do every year. Still ... I may come down with something that morning. ;)

I'm really sorry, I seem to have caught that new mouse flu that is going around...

Cherny and I have a long-standing tradition... of course I'm in! I'll get there about lunch-ish.

There is no choice for non-bitter east coaster. Sorry I won't be able to make it, though.

I think you have to bow to the majority who voted for the "bitter east coast" option and cancel this event.

I think they should move Disneyland to Sydney for its birthday this year.

If Matt can get the day off we will be there. Unfortunately I'm not pet sitting/house sitting so I am free to go. It's been tradition to go with Matt. We haven't missed a birthday since we became passholders

I had planned to take the day off, but my new boss is in from Boston that day and I've been asked to do a presentation on my programs & projects. So, perhaps I'll swing by after work and maybe set a foot in the old park before I get a drink.

Yeah, it's definitely going to be an after-work for me, too. Just, really, to set foot in the Park to hold to the unbroken tradition.

Looks like it will be an after work event for me too now.

Anyone who is thinking of going to DCA for Disneyland's birthday needs to remember that DCA opened in Feb.
Get your priorities straight. ;)
I have my operation the day before, so I will see how I feel. I've been going every year since the 40th, so I'd hate to miss it.

Theo has a gym class that morning, but late afternoon/early evening is possible.

We'll basically be there all day.

I'm actually kind of burned out on the park for the summer. Three consecutive full days with the three rental kids, including an overnight waiting for wristbands... plus two additional open-to-close days with them before they left... it was wonderful, but stick a fork in me.
I very much want to try out Carthay and hang out more in DCA, but I think that can wait until the weather cools and the kids are back in school.

OK... I'll be there in November!

I tried out Carthay last night. It's a really nice place, and the food was good if not outrageously yummy. It's a bit overpriced and I don't really need to dine there again. BUT the cocktails were great, and better than you get elsewhere in the Resort for the same price, so I see a goodly amount of the Carthay Lounge in my future.
And a goodly amount of newly enjoyable DCA 2.0 in that future - but NONE of that tomorrow night. Of course, I mean to say I'll be arriving pretty late - and, the occasion being what it is, I mean to devote those very few hours to Disneyland.
Howzabout a fireworks meet-up?
I wanted to stay for fireworks last night, but my other half wanted to head home right after dinner - so we could promptly fall asleep for our line-up of fave TV shows that air one after the other after the other on Sunday nights.
So .... I'm craving fireworks, and that makes Disneyland more palatable when it seems a little on the boring side while DCA 2.0 is still sparkling new. :)

Since Matt and I are heading down for opening we will be going not DCA at some point during the day and spending time in Disneyland of course. even though it's Disneyland's birthday with the new addition of Cars Land DCA appeals to us much more than ever. Just can't get enough.
innerSpaceman
07-16-2012, 12:41 PM
Oh, if I were there the whole day, MOST of it would be spent in DCA. But for those of us who are coming late after work (and I will be the most late, coming from L.A), it's GOT to be Disneyland - or why bother being there for Disneyland Birthday.
(Of course, I spent the entirety of the vaunted 55th almost entirely inside Club 33 - but that's at least legitimately inside Disneyland. Still, I felt so weird that all I had time for in the Park proper was the famous closing time Funny S Walk. Le sigh - it was weird to have only a few minutes of Disneyland on Disneyland Birthday.)

We're gonna be in DCA early (just because it'll be our first time since the re-opening) - but we'll definitely be splitting our afternoon/evening time between the parks.

After tonight's all-nighter in the kitchen, and whatever Tuesday deliveries I can't postpone until Wednesday, Imma try to make it down. Who would want to miss the fun of huddling around an electrical socket next to the Hungry Bear restrooms for an hour and a half? :p

Screw that, I'll just pay the 2 bucks for a charging locker on Main Street- I just wish they had them on Buena Vista Street, too.

All in on this one. I'm taking the day off of work(it sure is nice to be the boss). Arriving early, but also departing early as I have a meeting in Oxnard early Wednesday morning. Look forward to seeing you all, and those that I miss, have a magical day!

"To all who went to this happy place, Humbug.
Disneyland is YOUR land. Here Distance shuns fond antipodeans of the past, and here locals may savor the challenge and promise of the future. Disneyland is dedicated to the ideals, the dreams, and the hard facts that have created America... with hope that it will be a source of joy and inspiration to all the world.... as soon as they can get there."
Anyway, while gazing at my little Golden Castle in my hand-engraved crystal dome from NOS, I'm wishing upon a star as hard as I can. Happy Birthday all.

Ya know, the squish fairy and the drawbridge are only about 50 yards apart from each other.
Oh well, I trust everyone enjoyed the 57th Birthday. It was a distinct pleasure seeing all the peeps I did see, and best (post)-Birthday wishes to those I may have missed.
We're already making plans for the 60th.

Now that we're officially in the late fifties, all eyes are on 2015. See all you bitter outsiders then.
As for me, I got a little bit of late night playtime in and even rode an original attraction.
Happy 57 to the happiest place on earth.

July 17, 2015 is a Friday btw. That should make for a fine weekend of celebrating.
I've only been to one birthday, I think I'll wait to do another until that one has been doubled.

When I added it into my iPhone (scrolling laboriously through the months) I noticed it was a Friday - there may be a Long Weekend 72hr official party or some such thing. Maybe I'd better book a room now.

Not really - the laborious scrolling was to get to the date to add it. There is no quick way to change the year in the calendar app (short of entering it in Outlook, which I dont want to do because Outlook ****s up my mail)
Luckily there's only 12 months in a year...

Made me go check to confirm to myself that there is no "go to date" function. Well, that's dumb.
