I'm sure they're not everyone's cup of tea, but I've been over the moon (pun intended) about the Ice Level, the new album from Brooklyn-based Ava Luna (http://avaluna.bandcamp.com/track/sequential-holdings), ever since it came out.
And they're playing at the Echo tonight. I am ridiculously excited. It's $10 and it's not sold out...
So if anyone wants to hang with me and see a great show, tonight would be the night.

I can't go (obviously) but I'm listening to them right now. I like it!

Ugh, I might have even considered this if I weren't awakened at 3:30 this morning by an earthquake a couple of miles away, and then stayed up the rest of the night because a movie I talked about wanting to see just 3 days ago was starting right then on the channel I left on and fell asleep to.
I'm tired. (and old.)

I'm tired. (and old.)Is your VCR broken? You don't have to worry about it flashing 12:00, just make sure the tape is wound and you don't have anything else important on there. No need to set it to start or stop, just hit record and let it tape on the whole thing. I mean, you'd use EP since you want highest quality for a movie anyway, so the tape will stop recording after 2 hours and pop itself out.

Nah, it was meant to be seen right then. We were talking about Joseph Gordon-Levitt's career in the lobby after seeing midnight Batman, and I ended up really wanting to see Hesher.
Well, on the way out of the theater, there was a line of people waiting to get in to the middle-of-the-night show. My companion mentioned a similar situation walking by a queue of incoming audience after a screening of Star Trek Generations when her friend blurted out, "Oh my god, I can't believe they killed Kirk!" They had to make a run for it.
One total 405 freeway closure and one exit closure (mine, ugh) later, when I finally got home from Irvine at about 4:30 a.m., I flipped on the TV - and right that second appeared the scene in Generations where Kirk gets killed.
So ... when I was awakened by an earthquake in the middle-of-the-night less than a week later to find Hesher just then starting - I took it as a sign.
Not a very good movie, as it turned out. But there's no way I wouldn't have watched it at that moment.

Not to derail the conversation, but the show was amazing. I'll post a video later.
