I'm cat-sitting for a friend for the next couple weeks. Every time I go over to her house, I become a blood buffet for literally dozens of those tiny parasites. Does anyone have a suggestion on how to avoid the little buggers? It's not my home and they're not my cats, so I don't think it would be appropriate to use any kind of poison.

Eat lots of garlic.

Eat lots of garlic.

That's what I was going to say. Don't know if it works, though.

Also, keep well covered. Long socks and long pants seems to help.

I have been using Advantage on my cats and haven't seen a flea in years!

Do you have any way to contact them to request permission to bomb the house and dip the cats?

The concern I'd have is not so much avoiding bites while in the house but bringing the infestation home with you.

Ugh, this is the norm for their house? You get love-brownie points for doing this favor. The poor creatures, being eaten alive every single day.

I'm with Alex. The thought of bringing them home is enough to keep me away from there.

It's my understanding the cats have some kind of flea protection. (Advantage or something like that) I'm looking for a flea-equivalent of mosquito repellant that will keep the vile little buggers off of me.

I've contemplated putting plastic bags over my feet & legs before entering. If there isn't an effective chemical solution, I may have to go with that.

Herbal insect repelling scents include garlic, tansy, mint, and I think lavender. You could tie a cloth with the essential oil around your ankles to help discourage them.

I'm not sure what specifically works for fleas.

yeah, yeah, I know...but it's the first thing that came to mind when I saw the title, "human flea". Close enough
