Environmentalists with diesel cars have used vegetable oil for years as an alternative fuel to cut back on sooty emissions, but as gas prices soar above $2 a gallon, they say their “veggie cars” are a great way to save cash.
I am no expert, but to me it almost seems that we as a society could develop a new win win in our transportation/energy needs by partnering with the vegetable oil refiners and converting more (diesel) cars to run off vegetable oil. it seems to me that the agriculture community here would benefit greatly by a new market for their produce opening up in the form of alternative fuels that have been proven to work as well(and cleaner) then the fossil fuels we are currently using. But that is just my thinking.

Wow, thanks for sharing that.

Of course there are other solutions out there. But when it comes to an energy policy, all we hear is about drilling in ANWR, coal, and someday building more refineries and nuclear plants. What the hell good are more refineries going to do us when we are out of oil?

I'm so tired of short-sighted politicians, especially the ones with ties to the oil industry, who keep putting this vital research on the back burner so they may profit just a bit more. This should have been a priority 20 years ago. As it stands now, we are in a serious world of hurt when the oil runs out.
