The last 2 blu-ray discs I've purchased won't play in my player. I get an incompatable disc message and it pops the disc out. It's a Sharp, the TV is also a sharp quattron. I've tried upgrading the firmware, machine says no need.

I fear I either have a buggy machine, or need a new one.

Anyone have a similar problem? Now I'm wondering which player I should buy, especially because I want to stream amazon prime. Sharp does not play with amazon. Help!

Might also negate the need for a roku.

Have you tried the discs in any other players? There are blurays that have had manufacturing problems, as well.

Nope, I've only got the one bluray player. Seems odd, the last 2 newly released discs

Got a PS3 by any chance?

How about updating the firmware on your player?

Know how I know you didn't read the entire original post? :D

First of all... it was 6 in the morning... and I completely skimmed over Donna's comment about firmware.

Second of all... you got me.

However, if the player is only playing certain discs and not others, then it's almost definitely a software issue - either it's the firmware or the machine is blacklisted.

So now that I'm awake, what is the model number of the machine and what discs is it rejecting?

I'll have to get that info when I get home, I can't remember the model on this player.

No, I do not have a PS3, either.

mousepod knows about that disc that plays in his Oppo, but won't play in my identicial-model Oppo. I think blu-ray players are like cars - mechanical devices that are nonetheless alive.

Personally I think it's because Mercury is retrograde. But dammit, I want to watch the blu-rays of Cinderella and Sunset Blvd.

The model is a Sharp BD-HP80U. I called, Sharp has no fix. I'm in the market for a new player.

Check the disks on another player first if you can

Yeah, what Kevy said.

I've had at least 3 bum discs - 2 of them from Disney.
