Aloha all you hipsters!

Sending a heads up to you if you ever plan to travel up Harbor Blvd. to the Mouse House. As you drive up to Westminister Blvd. look at the billboard to your left above the F&B rental company and you will see...*drum roll for effect*

An advertisement for Lounge 610 am radio with the artwork of one of our ultra fave artists! Shag! :snap: :snap: :snap:

Shag art is cool in it normal size dimentions, but at billboard size! NIIIIIIIICE! ;)

I've seen these out and about. They are really cool. Although, since AM radio is not something I seek out, I haven't given the station a listen. I wasn't aware that Shat did that artwork, although his style is apparent.

I've tried to listen to the station but music in mono with crappy AM reception? No effin' way.

The billboards are cool though.

Crappy AM mono is what radio used to be all about. Think of it as texture added for your listening pleasure. Where's Humble Harv and Boss Radio when I need them?

Are we talking about The Fabulous 690? (http://www.570klac.com/main.html)

I heard Clear Channel sold this station to a spanish language program this week. Escuadras!

690 was once "The Mighty 690" - a top 40 station which transmitted from Tijuana and was notorious for playing hit singles at increased rpms to squeeze in more commercials. (This practice was later perfected by FM TenQ.)

AM 690 is now playing standards, and 570 has flipped to a talk format.

1260 used to play standards, but have relaunched as Oldies 1260, and play a pretty good songlist.

I don't know whatever happened to Humble Harv. Charlie Tuna and Bobby Ocean are still around.

The Boss era officially ended in the late 90s when Robert W. Morgan and the Real Don Steele (my all-time favorite DJ) passed away within months of each other.

If RDS were still around, tomorrow he would let loose with a wild, rambling, anything goes Fractious Friday signoff, and ask the perennial question:

What do we know and believe?

Awww..... When I was in elementary school, I used to listen to "The Mighty 690" on a little radio in my room. Then I got a stereo and switched to some local FM station.

When I lived in San Diego I listened to sports talk radio on 690. Actually, I still listened to it a lot after I moved too, right up until the merged with another station and started sucking big time.

I didn't even know that it had changed programming until about a month ago, a guy I know was listening to it in the car.
