Disneyland Cone Shop Is History

My Imagineering friend who is designing the new arcade for Main Street confirmed that the Cone Shop in Disneyland will longer operate and will later be removed when construction of the new arcade begins.

Well, the damn place was rarely open anyways - at least whenever I was in the mood for a cone and checked. I'm just curious how the Cone Shop can be tied in to the Arcade though considering they are on opposite sides of the Main Street

Considering that DL just serves the exact same ice cream I can eat at home, I rarely bother. And that place was hardly ever open so most of the times I decided I wanted something there it ended in disappointment.

So, I say no more ice cream at Disneyland until they put in a Humphrey Slocombe or Bi-Rite. Or maybe a small parking lot since everybody whined about missing the parking lot at Disneyland.

I'm more depressed about the Market House being torn out. White hot chocolate while waiting for Holiday fireworks was one of my absolute favorite things ever. :(

I'm sad for my cone loving friends, especially cemeinke €, for he will always represent in-park-destination-ice-cream-seekery to me.

More than anything, I'm sad because we aren't getting chances to say goodbye, to anything, anymore. No more kooky dress-up days and practically-flash-mobs that I'm sure some CMs tittered about backstage. I miss all that so very much.

The Cone Shop was fun because it was hit-and-miss to find it open, it had great sundaes not available anywhere else in the resort (Alex's comment about the source ice-cream is therefore meaningless to this menu), and - even at its most crowded - was a far shorter wait than the main ice cream parlor across the street which has (imo) lackluster offerings to boot.

A day at Disneyland is one of those times when I feel carefree enough to "cheat" and indulge my biggest crap-food vice, yummy ice cream. Sigh, now that's over.

Wait, when we say arcade are we talking about the modern sense of a room with machines you drop coins into or the the more classic sense of a covered commercial walkway?

I assumed the latter. If the former, I'll take a more Zlickian view.

Um, ARCADE - in the Main Street sense - is NOT a game center. It's a walkway behind the stores on Main Street, perhaps on both sides of the street (as in Paris), but in any event an oft-needed alternative for pedestrian travel between the Hub and Town Square.

For those who decry a game center in the Park, the Starcade has been in Tomorrowland for several decades. For those who decry the Market House now being a MarketHouse-themed Starbucks, um, most eateries in the Park were private businesses for many of the early years ... and some of that has continued into modern times. In fact, I think most eateries have been continually sponsored by real food companies - with prominent signage to advertise that fact. The new Market House will simply sell Starbucks coffee as opposed to Hills Bros. coffee. It will be staffed by CMs in the direct employ of Disney. Training will be influenced by Starbucks, but will not be as intensive as Starbucks would like (if the experience over at DCA is repeated).

I've peeked through the gap in the side doors of the Market House, and, as much as I'd like to believe they're just switching out the coffee for Sbux, the place is completely gutted. ttfwiw

They have to rebuild the place to house Starbucks machinery, and are taking the opportunity to redesign, I'd bet.

I loved the arcade walkways at DLP and think it's a great idea. I'm surprised they have room for such a thing though.

For those who decry a game center in the Park, the Starcade has been in Tomorrowland for several decades.And judging by its progression over the years, I would say that Disney is not real motivated to make another one. It used to be two stories, then became one story then more than half of it became overflow store space for Star Traders. Last I checked there were maybe 10 machines in there and the upper floor has been vacant for years (despite Disneyphile's brilliant idea to turn it into Milliways!)

I think they should get rid of it entirely. A video arcade screams 1986, not The Future. ;)

To be fair, there's nothing in Tomorrowland outside of some of the Innventions stuff that "screams The Future."

I'd love a Flynn's arcade like what they had in DCA for Electronica. Not on Main Street obviously. Maybe in a space in Downtown Disney. Have it be open late after the parks close.

It was a nice alternative to Gibson Girl on busy days, and you could get a cookie sandwich with fresh cookies too.
