Keep in mind - your response to this thread has the potential to cause me to seriously question your ability to comprehend moving pictures and sound.
Saw the premier episode of S.H.I.E.L.D. Left me entertained but cautious. Overall it was exciting and included a couple turns that I did not expect. However there was a quality to the characters, banter, and tone that didn't sit right. My reservations can be summed up by Fitz's thumbs up at the end of the big standoff. Horrible, but not enough to (completely) undo the fun that preceded it.
Then I watched the second episode. I have nothing redeeming to say about it. It started out mediocre and it was downhill from there. Predictable, trite, awful. I'm glad to see that Joss Whedon doesn't have an actual writing credit on this episode, but disappointed that he is willing to attach his name in any way to that crap. It was the antithesis of what I love about his work.
I'm out.

I'm not but a humble pirate and you used a lot big words in your review, but I gave up after the first episode because the flying car was silly.

I was put off by the lady who lived in her van, yet had gorgeous hair. And then flying car guy takes her with him in his flying car. Reminded me of way too many similar situations during my drinking and using days.
I didn't particularly like the premiere (I'm not sure what fun you saw in it) and thought the second one was better. Still not all that good, but better.
But it is a comic book show and all comic book shows and movies are fundamentally stupid. Even the smart ones (by comic book show and movie standards).

I didn't particularly love the premier but I'm often willing to forgive a lot in a premier - it's a tricky thing to avoid painful exposition and hack lines to establish character personalities. So I ignored all that and just focused on the basic premise and action. Seemed like there was potential if they could get past the awkward writing.
Instead they ratcheted up all of those problems in the 2nd. Abysmal expositional dialog ("...back when we were stationed together in Peru." Who SAYS that shjt?), every stupid side gag becoming a call back in act 3 (safety card, coaster...) and awful awful awful attempt at character development ("You only need part of the answer").
Maybe all of that was there in the first one and I didn't notice/remember. I did watch it in a hotel room, which, similar to the airplane effect, gives movies/tv an artificial entertainment bump. But that's neither here nor there. This episode was atrocious.
That's ok, so was 93% of Buffy and 94.3% of Angel. (I say, never having watched a full episode of either.)

I would say the same thing GD is saying about the 2nd ep of SHIELD about Whedon's The Avengers - which, admittedly a minority view, I think is among the 5 worst movies I've ever seen.
Despite that acknowledgment of minority view, I similarly will question anyone's ability to comprehend moving pictures and sound who expresses a positive opinion about The Avengers.
Needless to say, I have zero interest in watching a TV version of The Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. ;)

Steve don't worry - this has not changed my opinion of your ability to comprehend :p

I've been looking to update my Netflix queue with some new movies, what are your other four?

Hmm, don't know what to make of this thread just yet. Been trying to decide whether Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. was something I wanted to pursue with my limited free time...
Hmm...

I"m enjoying the show. I don't think its amazing and slipping a bit into the NCIS type show that I don't want to see. The last episode has more action and more elements from the Marvel side, which can't be said for the 2nd episode.
