As an admitted Kickstarter (http://www.kickstarter.com/) Addict, I thought it should have a thread.
Here is one I ran across today that made me think of the LoT.

Yo! GD, Valentines day (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/825452426/unique-vintage-style-and-skull-cameos-and-padlock?ref=recently_launched) is not that far away.

I love kickstarter and have backed a few worthy (to me) projects. My latest back was this egg (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1046165765/egg-the-intelligent-cat-companion).
I need to pay more attention, there are some really great ideas there!

Oh! I saw that one when it first launched. I thought about it but then remembered I have more than one cat and they keep each other company.
My most recently backed project is the nfcPad (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1247222675/nfctack-and-nfcpad-nano-suction-nfc-stickers). It should make a nice addition to my nfc Ring (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/mclear/nfc-ring) if I ever get it....

Here is my latest project backed, apparently it has become quite popular.
OBDLink (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/obdsol/obdlink-mx-wifi-a-wireless-gateway-to-vehicle-obd)
OBDLink MX WiFi is a fun little gadget that lets your phone talk to your car, in real time. It's easy for anyone to use, and it works on iOS, Android and Windows platforms. Use it with a variety of highly-rated apps that enable you to connect with your car like never before. OBDLink MX WiFi is like a swiss army knife for your car!

I picked a bad time to be broke.
This is so freaking cool! A Mini-museum (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/2054592112/mini-museum).
The mini museum is a portable collection of curiosities where every item is authentic, iconic and labeled. It's been carefully designed to take you on a journey of learning and exploration. The idea is simple. For the past 35 years I have collected amazing specimens specifically for this project. I then carefully break those specimens down into smaller pieces, embed them in resin, and you end up with an epic museum in a manageable space

Ear Buds (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/comedyfilmnerds/ear-buds-the-podcasting-documentary): The Podcasting Documentary
CP and I have been very much on board the podcasting train since close to the beginning. It's been fascinating to witness the evolution of the medium and it's provided us with hours and hours and hours of entertainment. Would love to see this documentary get made and see what the content-makers have to say about it.
Plus, all of the existing footage is from the podcast festival we attended last October, and my hand and bag of Cheez-It make an appearance. Who knows what other body parts might show up!

Did I hear you laughing in the audience when Marc Marohn posted his show from the festival?
Also, when I asked you two to let him know I want to hear less about his relationship issues that didn't mean for him to jump out of one relationship I didn't want to hear about and almost immediately into a new relationship I still don't want to hear about, especially if they're going to coo at each other on air occasionally?

According to the "Internet" (http://www.seriouseats.com/2013/03/the-food-lab-complete-guide-to-dry-aging-beef-at-home.html)humidity control is not that important.
The three different fridges I aged meat in were all at different humidity levels. The mini-fridge was consistently high—around 80% through the entire aging process (I kept it there by leaving a small tray of water in the back of it). One piece was left in the office fridge, which was opened and closed regularly throughout the process. It ranged from 30 to 80%, with no regularity. Finally, my home fridge is lower in humidity, closer to around 50% at all times (close to ambient room humidity).
Guess what? All three produced excellent aged beef.
I wonder how much sh!t I would take from my wife for turning our drink fridge into a meat locker for a few months....

With certain precations, you can dry age meat in your fridge (or at least Alton Brown said so). But I think only for a few days safely. While this improves flavor, it is nothing compared to the real time used in proper aging- 21 to 70 days. If you put a steak on a plate uncovered in your fridge, what would it look like in almost 3 months? Yeah, a fuzzy meat cake.
So, to answer your question, this is what they say:
Some people dry age steaks inside their regular fridge. This is not recommended (in fact, it is illegal in a commercial environment) as the environment in your fridge is not suitable for dry aging. Even popular dry bag short term dry aging can be dangerous. In the main this is due to the high humidity and highly fluctuating temperature in your household fridge that promotes bacterial growth which in turn can cause foodbourne illnesses and ruin your meat. In addition to high humidity, it lacks a germicidal inhibitor such a Spectrum UVC lamp.

I've tried the "Alton Brown" method. It's bunk. It made the steak worse.

In the article I linked to, The "Fuzzy meat cake" hypothesis is shown to be unfounded (http://www.seriouseats.com/2013/03/the-food-lab-complete-guide-to-dry-aging-beef-at-home.html).

That was a very interesting article! Thanks!
But what I was talking about was to put a cut steak on a plate for three months, which I'm pretty sure would rot- and this guy said as much. What I didn't realize until reading this article, is that you must age whole primal cuts with the fat cap intact, creating the protective layer that protects the meat from rotting. This makes since, but I'm still worried about bacteria at the start of the project....
Oh, and at least this articles agrees with Alton Brown that you can do it in your home fridge, and buying this expensive piece of equipment is unessisary. But I never did try Alton's method, and likey never will now.

Just now getting back to reading this thread...
I'll have to check with the couple of folks that posted about it, but I've seen it happen before, though thankfully on nothing I've supported at least as of this time. In the bits of discussion I've read, the ones being mentioned were "Let's make a movie" type projects. That kind of fail puts a shadow on those that are kickstarting with full understanding of how to execute and deliver on their projects.
I feel for those tech projects that fail to foresee certain aspects of fulfillment, or when bad sh*t just happens to people... I'm sure they're disappointed, too. Like, they just made all this sh*t and... now what? I always try to read up on how they intend to fulfill since that is sooo scary to put in that kind of fundage... and time... just to fail at the critical moment.
