Well, Fox, anyway-so far.....
File this one under "Hell, I didn't vote for him!"
Gay bashing mayor busted (http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,155657,00.html)
There is a hell of a lot more to this one then Fox reports.
damn, and I was hoping it was a story of a friend of mine(who is living with parkisons) that took a bicycle trip from San Diego to Gonzaga University and was arriving at the school today.....so much for that hoping. Guess good news items arn't worth national attention..... but for the curious, a few details.... http://www.nwpf.org/news/news_story.asp?id=1249

Heh. I saw the headline come across the AP today and thought of you, wendybeth.
With sympathy, of course.

What, a gay rights opponent who is, in reality, closeted and probably a self hater? Stop the presses! ;)

Ugh, I just finished reading his IM's with a couple of kids- what a freaking perv. (Well, one was a kid, who actually ends up telling West off for being such a hypocrite, and the other was a reporter posing as a 17 year old). This guy is truly freaky-weird.
To add a twist to the story, the newspaper, who has been investigating this for three years, actually endorsed this guy over his opponent, Tom Grant, last fall. Tom Grant is an award winning journalist who exposed the corrupt city council and the the newspaper's owners daughter for fraudulently obtaining federal HUD funding to assist in her developement company's quest to build a high end shopping center on the Cowles (owners of the Spokesman Review) downtown property. The Cowles pretty much run this town, and have ties to the New York publishing world as well. (Stepdad is the owner of the New York Times, or something like that). Anyway, things are tied up in very messy and expensive litigation, the IRS is investigating, our city bond rates are imperiled over this, and suddenly last week Mayor West settles with the Cowles, to our financial detriment. Now, this week, they lay this on him. (I'm sure they have their own man waiting in the wings to take his place). I'm also sure he'll have some interesting things to say about the Cowles in the time to come.....

An update:
Mayor takes leave (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/7794694/)
It's really hard to convey just what a sleazeball this jack-off is. He has made life a living hell for many of our state's gay community, particularily here in conservative Eastern Washington. He's the worst sort of hypocrite- the kind who can actually set policy and law, and he gets off on his double life.

I've seen this in the news the last few days. It made me think of you living up there!
The story just seems to be getting stranger, of course we don't get to see the emails or anything down here.
Politicians suck, especially two faced ones. Oh wait that's all politicans isn't it!!

Well, wendybeth, at least now when you tell people where you're from they won't say "where?"

Well, far be it from me to not let you all in on the fun!
Spokesman Review (http://search.netscape.com/ns/boomframe.jsp?query=spokesman+review&page=1&offset=0&result_url=redir%3Fsrc%3Dwebsearch%26requestId%3Df 390b8f5f453445a%26clickedItemRank%3D1%26userQuery% 3Dspokesman%2Breview%26clickedItemURN%3Dhttp%253A% 252F%252Fwww.spokesmanreview.com%252F%26invocation Type%3D-%26fromPage%3DnsBrowserRoll%26amp%3BampTest%3D1&remove_url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.spokesmanreview.com%2F )
Keep in mind that the newspaper is owned by the family that runs this town, and is behind the notorious RiverPark Square deal. Just the slightest bit of a conflict of interests there...
There is an area at this site where you can read the IM's and e-mails, etc. If for any reason the page doesn't come up, let me know and I'll try to link directly to them. Again, this is not about the man's sexuality, in fact the local Repubs have been surprisingly open minded about that- it's about the misuse of public funds and the charges of pedophilia. (Although I am disturbed by his public intolerance for gay issues, and his active campaigning against civil rights, etc.)

Lol! True... Spokane used to be spelled sans 'e', many years ago. I've no idea why they changed it.
