Religion and Politics Clash
Religion and politics clash over a local church's declaration that Democrats are not welcome.

East Waynesville Baptist asked nine members to leave. Now 40 more have left the church in protest. Former members say Pastor Chan Chandler gave them the ultimatum, saying if they didn't support George Bush, they should resign or repent.

The "spiritual leader" responsible for this refused to be interviewed on camera regarding this story but was quick to point out that "the actions were not politically motivated".

Uh huh RIGHT!

Repent your sin of not supporting Dubya!

::slaps forehead::

Of course! How could I forget the eleventh commandment?

Aw, you beat me to it, Sac. :)

This (http://bushfish.org/) is the better page though. I can imagine it would make most moderate conservatives cringe.

If you are tired of secularists telling you that The Lord has no place
in our government and our public institutions, then show them that
you disagree.

This symbol, this site, and this car magnet have been created for the
millions of Americans who support the President and his vision for a
government that embraces religion, morality, and family values. It
shows worship to the Lord, respect for the President, and hope for
all.

Join the millions of Americans who believe that President Bush’s faith-
based administration presents the best hope for America’s future.
The future is in your hands.

True, but I wanted to make it easy for everyone to get one (or a dozen). At first I was only going to order one for my car but then I decided to have a steel plate implanted in my head so that I can walk around with one on my forehead. I figure it'll double my chances of getting into heaven.

According to the Baptist Standard news organization, the minister resigned. There's even an audio tape of the sermon he now denies having made... (???)

Click here. (http://www.baptiststandard.com/postnuke/index.php?module=htmlpages&func=display&pid=3336)

Quote:

"Embattled pastor Chan Chandler--who told church members who disagreed with his political views they needed to "repent or resign"-- announced his resignation during a May 10 business meeting, surprising both supporters and detractors at East Waynesville Baptist Church.
Chandler, 33, had been pastor of the church two and a half years. He and the church became the focus of national media attention after a heated church conference May 2, in which nine longstanding members said they were voted out by a group of newcomers because they refused to endorse the pastor's political views.

East Waynesville Baptist Church in North Carolina was the center of a church-state controversy.
In an audiotape of a sermon preached by Chandler one month prior to the November 2004 presidential election, the pastor said: "If you vote for John Kerry this year, you need to repent or resign. You have been holding back God's church way too long. And I know I may get in trouble for saying that, but just pour it on." "
