View Full Version : I went to DISNEYLAND!

Yesterday, I had lots of fun. I went to DISNEYLAND!

It was just the way I remember it as a kid. Everything looks freshly painted. There are no burned out lightbulbs and all the stuff on the rides works. The music is clear and catchy, from It's a Small World to Splash Mountain. The people that work there seemed just as happy to be there as we were!

There was a wonderful new parade for 2005 filled with characters and costumes and special effects and beautifully detailed floats. I waved to everyone with a big smile on my face. There was a new fireworks show too, filled with surprises and state of the art effects. We were laughing and pointing and totally entranced from beginning to end.

There were a couple of closed rides - I was bummed I couldn't get to ride Space Mountain - but once that opens up, watch out!

I enjoyed my day so much that I bought a few things on Main Street. I'll remember this day forever!

Everyone needs to go to Disneyland. It's the happiest place on earth, and it's BACK!

So true! I was nearly in tears of joy as I was watching the fireworks. Really brought back so many of the happy memories I've had of the park throughout the years. I don't mean to pump it up too much, but it was really great. Walking around, seeing things working, like the Tiki Room, being lit up, and Dole Whips being eaten by the moonlight (of course they're going to sell now... there are signs, and it's lit up, bringing people to the area again!), and just generally knowing that people were having just as good a time as I was. /le sigh

Day 2 and the excitement is still in the air! Merchandise was flying out the doors. Everything look great. Remember was as wonderful as the night before and the Parade is just great. Expecially amazing is Ursula and Simba - but it all looks great. Tiki CMs have new Hawaiian Shirts - no more JC costumes. We had the same CM on JC who did a GREAT Hippo joke again. There's still more for us to see - after 2 days! I need to see all of the golden ride vehicles. I've only seen a few and ridden only one (JC).

The Magic is back!

Maybe I'll go tomorrow.

Day 2 and the excitement is still in the air! Merchandise was flying out the doors. ... There's still more for us to see ... The Magic is back!

Same sentiments here! Having spent a rare, part of the last "four" days at the Disneyland Resort (DCA on May 4th still counts), the "I can't wait to go back and still see new stuff" feeling is there.

Wow! Who would have thought that Annual Passholders and Disney fanatics like us would feel this excited about Disneyland again? Maybe it really is a "homecoming," and we're all coming home to the freshness, energy and wow-factor of the Disneyland we remember. It's almost like we're forgiving Disneyland management for "construction-wall city" and "covered-up castle" from the last few years.

If Tomorrowland ever receives all it deserves (Space Mountain, submarines, and other rumors/speculations/high-hopes like new PeopleMover, new Star Tours, etc.), maybe then all the ills of recent years will be forgotten. ;)

Oh man, this makes my heart twist in knots of giggly schoolkid enthusiasm. I so badly wish that I could experience all of that. I haven't visited the park since '98, and would love to see it shining and glittering with magic and so many happy faces.

I'm being consumed with jealousy....

I'm being consumed with jealousy....

Me too! I'm leaving for WDW in less than a week, I have a free cruise coming up in August, and all I can think about is that I can't get to Disneyland until JANUARY!!!!

Whaddaya think, Jazzman, roadtrip?

If my upcoming wedding wasn't eating up every spare penny, including causing the cancellation of our Disneyland honeymoon in September (how's that for irony) I'd say, Hell Yeah! I'll take any excuse I can get to jet down there. Well... jet, or even crawl at this point, I'm so desperate! :D

At least you have WDW! Have a blast!

Well, not to cause more jealosy but, having spent yesterday at the park, I just want to say that it isn't being over-hyped. The place is incredible right now. The cast members we encountered all seemed just a bit friendlier, the park is immaculate, the new firework show is something that cannot be missed, the rides have some nice surprises, and even the parade was top-notch.

Of course, the first thing we did is see the new movie in the Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln theater. I recommend checking it out before you walk into the rest of the park. It really sets the mood.

Yesterday, I had lots of fun. I went to DISNEYLAND!

It was just the way I remember it as a kid.

But have they done anything about the size yet? I know when I was a kid that castle was much larger, in fact the whole park was larger. I don't know exactly when everything was replaced with the smaller versions but I would sure like the old stuff back... :)

BTW, the whiners and the "entitleds" that seemed to be in short supply on the 5th apparently were lurking about.

I'll say this much....after being among the largest crowd of Disney enthusiasts I've ever seen, and thrilling to the ultimate Disneyland tribute fireworks show among many of them, it does make everything seem a bit bigger than before. Disneyland is our land, and the "our" means a whole lot of people, from those that built it to the hardcore fans to the casual visitors to the wide-eyed 5 year-olds. The history of the place is now officially legend...it is a part of our culture, our mindset.....and all the care that's been put back into it makes every tiny bit of it loom larger to me than it has had since I got my AP in 1999. It's kind of a paradoxical mix of vindication and humble pie.

This whole thing is doing weird things to us....it's like the ultimate drug for us withdrawal-wracked Disney fans. ;)

I decided I am going to wait until the day before we leave, then convert my Park Hopper to an AP. Hell, I could have bought a Premium Pass last year with what I spent on Park Hoppers, and then I will be able to get AP rates for the GCH or DLH. (And have yet another excuse to head down there...)

Ok, so I went to Disneyland today because I've been deprived of fireworks and the park since last Thursday!

Went to the 50th exhibit, The Gallery, POTC (BoOM!)Splash! and Tiki Room. I saw the Parade of Dream in a cool spot. The area between Ariel and the Matterhorn. They stopped twice in that area. Once near the front with the Beauty and the Beast float and the second stop was The Lion King. I saw the parade on Thursday and I though it was good. I was so far back then, I couldn't hardly hear the music. Today, I tell ya, I'm glad I had sunglasses on because it really got to me.

Fireworks was great also. Tink showed up.

Biggest cool thing was finding my pictures. I went to Main Street and went to the computer by the Steemboat Willie montage and found that 3 of my pictures were on THE STEEMBOAT WILLIE monatage! How cool is that, plus one of those was repeated 2 times on that one.

YAY!

Oh.
My.
God.

I went to Disneyland for the first time in over a year today on an ASB Mystery Trip. As soon as I stepped onto Main Street, I noticed something, yet I couldn't quite place it. Then it hit me. The place was sparkling! Fresh paint all around, the Disneyland Band marching down and playing, clean streets and sidewalks. It truly was a Homecoming. I was at Disneyland.

As I skipped down Main Street (yes, my ASB friends and I linked hands and skipped, avoiding crowds and strollers, of course), I was amazed to see it was like that all around. The castle was amazing. We turn into Tomorrowland, and I am giddy with excitment as I see the new white and blue paints and mural. We went on Buzz, and I was pleasently surprised at the quality and duration of the ride. Of course I sucked (a measly 31000 points), but the ride was still a blast.

It seemed wherever I went in the park, cast members were smiling, happily welcoming us into their park. The new gold motiffs throughout the park are tastefully done.

Highlight of the day had to be when we managed to get the Gold teacup. Six of us squeezed in, barely fitting (well, actually, not fitting at all, but managing to get in tight enough so the CM, who was awesome about it and took our picture and stuff, would be ok with it).

Quite a few times we got stuck on rides (Indy, Big Thunder, the Monorail, and, surprisingly, Jungle Cruise), but it didn't matter. Everything about that park has turned for the better. The alluding to Nemo on the sub walls is an awesome touch. The murals are awesome (couldn't find my picture though). The cast members are awesome. The characters are awesome (we saw Jane, Rafiki, Buzz, Mickey, Minnie, Pluto, Goofy, Pooh, Donald, Woody, and Tigger, all without stepping foot inside Toontown).

When I went on Pirates, I couldn't believe my eyes. How long have the new jets been in during the battle scene? The water splashing 8 feet into the air really adds to the experience.

The new parade is WAY WAY WAY better than PotS. I personally love the Lion King float. The new fireworks, are, well, awesome as well, and thats from seeing them from the parking lot.

Bravo.

By the way, anyone else notice the mickey topiary at the front enterance has a tail?

Actually, ASB is the Associated Student Body. All the High School's in the entire country have one. I'm part of the West Ranch High School ASB (http://www.westranchhighschool.com/asb). At the end of the year, most of the school's in my area (Valencia) take a "Mystery Trip" at the end of the year, where we get on a bus and have no clue where we are going until we get there. Yesterday, for instance, we started school with breakfast in the teachers lounge, then we went to Disneyland until 4:30. We got on the Monorail and headed to the ESPN Zone, where we had dinner and played games (or browsed DTD). We finally saw Kicking and Screaming at the AMC Theater.

We saw the fireworks outside the park because we needed to get back to our bus in time to get home by 11.

Still would like to give positive mojo to Gn2Dlnd. I think I'll give positive mojo to the one who gave me negative so that I can give an upshot where it is deserved.

No board wars are intended nor started. Someone spoke up to an individual who posted a lame baiting post. Would say the same thing about the post regardless of where it is at. Has nothing to do with the location, it has a lot to do with the individual.

So lighten up!

I think that any situation criticizing someone or something within our board "family" needs to be either left alone or mentioned with little opinion attached. Fact or stories on another board are fine. But, anything involving "board politics" should be left to other communication devices.
