The last couple of episodes have been a psychological experiment in dragging out the surrealistic elements of the show by inserting flashback revelations about the characters that are, a. not hugely interesting or particularly revealing because they are predictable and b. irritating because they are obviously stall tactics or blantant attempts at misdirection.

To the writers of LOST, if you metion that friggin' hatch ONE more time without making it the epicenter of action for an entire episode, I'm going to club your baby seal heads in!

At least Walt - maker of polar bears - is scared because he senses something. But were you also generous enough to let us in on a fraction of what he senses? No. You gave me a father and son heart to heart. The show is about true to life human relationships framed within an unreal sci-fi adventure world. Cool. I get it. Now YOU get to the point. I'm beginning to think you are messing with us just because you can. That's God's job. Or David Lynch's. Your job is to make sure the theme park joyride of fun that has been your show actually has a track that comes full circle, bringing me, along with your point, home.

If you're just making this **** up as you go along, I swear, I'm getting out my club.

Please don't get me wrong. I liked tonight's episode. It even manipulated a good cry out of me with the unveling of that child sweethearts' time capsule. Americans love time capsules, and I'm no exception.

But I want some answers. And if you can't give me answers, give me zombies.

"We got it open."

"What is that sound?"

"Oh...oh, my God. What's down there?! What is that horrible sound?"

"Braaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaains."

"Is someone down there? Did I just hear someone say "bran". Is there bran down there, because I have to tell you, I've had NO movement since landing on this god forsaken island, and I could really use the fiber."

"Braaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaains."

"I think they're saying "brains".

"It's zombies. There are zombies down there. Jack, get the guns. Everyone else, pick up some sharp edged rocks. The only way to kill a zombie is to destroy their brains. Also, Sawyer, take off your pants. Zombies means horror, and horror means sex happens at inappropriate times. You're hot. So, I repeat: Take. Off. Your. Pants."

"And who the hell are you?"

"Unnamed survivor and first time guest star, Audra Haskell."

"You can't be a survivor. You're not pretty enough. Only pretty people survived the crash, or haven't you been watching the show?"

"Hurley survived. I can survive. We're the homely survivor exceptions! Now get ready, here come the zombies! And, Sawyer, seriously, take them pants of rooster, baby."

I have never watched Lost. I don't even know what its about. In fact, if it doesn't star Peter Falk as Columbo then Idon'tknow. But I can back up a few of the above statements: I loves me time capsules (especially the type what delivers pain medicine into your body in clock-like fashion.) I loves me zombies. And finally, I am sitting here to-night with my pants off. Aww, the good life.

I love Lost - it is one of only three "must see" shows for me. I think they have answered many questions as they've introduced more mysteries. They will answer more in the last two episodes and most likely introduce new ones.

I love LOST, too. But like many of my loved ones do from time to time, LOST is trying my patience.

It doesn't make me love the show any less, but it's dragging certain plotlines out in a way that says "stallling because we're at a loss" and not "carefully planned development".

LOVE the zombie references. But then again, I have worked with them, and they can be a bit trying at times.

Still, I feel bad for the vegan zombies. Their menu choices are quite bleak.

Maybe vegan zombies only eat vegans like Alicia Silverstone, or maybe they are vengeful zombies (hey, Romero’s new zombies can think, apparently!), who go after fur wearing non-vegans like J-Lo.

Wow, how come I had to dig back 4 months to find anyone talking about Lost!?

We completely missed the 1st season, and managed to be completely unspoiled. By the time the DVDs came out, we had had it sufficiently hyped for us to check it out. So we threw the first disc onto our Netflix queue to check it out.

A week and a half later, we had powered through the entire first season and recorded the first 2 episodes of season 2. And now that we watched those on Sunay, I'm going through serious withdrawl. It can't be Wednesday soon enough!!

This is the best TV show in YEARS! So freaking good!

Now, I'm sure this is stating the obvious to everyone, but with "108" painted on the walls of the underground hatch place, I did some quick math and sure enough, the numbers add up to 108. And then, of course, the clock reset to 108. Hmmmmm. I wonder what happens when the clock hits zero? Maybe Jack Bauer dies.

One thing I keep trying to figure out...was it as long as 16 years ago that Jack performed that surgery on his would-be wife? Jack doesn't seem old enough for that to be the case. If that's so, Desmond got to the island sometime AFTER Frenchy and company.

And who are the others?! And why are they obsessed with children?! And wtf is with the "security system" that sounds like a mechanical T-rex, but has crazy black smoke that can drag people?! And why won't CP let me buy a lottery ticket with the numbers?!

Welcome to the Lost party. It is definitely the best show on TV. The writing and storylines are done better than anything I can remember ever watching on TV. The second episode of the season was a perfect example - redo a time line of events from the perspective of Locke and Kate.

Currently, my favorite part of the show is the cat and mouse with Jack and Locke.

I also go through withdrawal waiting week to week. Just wait until they go 5-6 weeks without a new episode. That'll kill ya.

There are many, many questions about the show, and that's one thing that makes it so fun.

I wouldn't waste time buying a lottery ticket with those numners. You would share with so many people that you'd get about $12.75, I'm sure.

I am unsure of the timeline of how long Desmond has been there. I am wondering who "he" is, when Desmond asked Locke if he was "him". I am wondering who the people are who have (had) Jin as a captive. They look a little primitive to be the others, as the others who took Walt had guns, fuel, a boat, etc.

I still have many unanswered questions from story lines in the first season. Who was Ethan? Was he with Rousseau? Claire scratched Rousseau, and Ethan had taken Claire. So is Rousseau not telling everything? Perhaps Rousseau was trying to rescue Claire from Ethan? Is Ethan one of the others? I want to know more about Ethan, but I fear he is going to be forgotten in all of this.

I could go on FOREVER about all my questions and what I love about the show, but I have gone on long enough already.

So is Rousseau not telling everything? Perhaps Rousseau was trying to rescue Claire from Ethan? Is Ethan one of the others? I want to know more about Ethan, but I fear he is going to be forgotten in all of this.I've been trying to figure that one out too. I doubt Ethan is one of the others. Rousseau's interest in the others seems pretty one-dimensional...get Alex back. She seems to fear/respect them enough to avoid them unless she's got a bargaining chip. Since it seems that Rousseau was there during Claire's captivity by Ethan, I find it unlikely that Rousseau would be amont the others if they already have what she thought was her barganing chip. If she wasn't able to get Alex back, she sure as hell wouldn't have been stupid enough to try to swipe Claire from them only to turn around and offer her back.

So that leaves 2 possibilities in my mind for Ethan. 1) He was working with Rousseau to get Claire for her. This seems least likely, as Rousseau hasn't mentioned his death at all. But, of course, she's crazy so who knows. 2) He's independent of Rousseau (whether he's alone or not is an unkown) and also has something to gain by giving the others something they want.

There are certain shows where missing an episode doesn't make a difference - any of the Law and Order franchise, CSI, etc. But something like Lost.....how much do you miss if you miss one episode? It's almost like a "daytime drama", in that sense, in that the story lines arc in such a way that you've got to see them in order.

Fellow Lost junkies - don't forget it is on tonight.

I think I am obsessing a little too much on it. I am very fearful something will happen that would cause me to miss it. I am planning on watching it when it airs, but what if something happens, like one of my kids is sick and they need my help? As a precaution, I am also recording it. What if the VCR breaks or I program it incorrectly? As a precaution, I am recording it on two VCRs. What if my cable goes out? As a precaution, I am having my mother in law record it as well (she lives 30 miles away).

I think something is wrong with me.

My roomate works for ABC as a liason to the local affiliates. Last week, when the fires caused Adelphia customers to lose service, she got the local affiliate to re-broadcast "Lost " in a "special encore presentation" after Monday Night Football. I've heard a couple people say that now. I don't get that. But you can miss an episode and still be OK. "Previously, on Lost" does a pretty good job of showing you what you "missed" in the last few (or more) episodes, and the show itself is really repetitive.

But really, I don't get it either. I love the idea of it, but I think it may have something to do with hype. There's no way Lost can live up to the hype that's been created about it. I liked it more over the summer when there was no Lost than I do now that there's an episode of Lost on tonight.

Maybe I'll *love* it five years from now on DVD? If I do, I promise to create a gushy love-for-Lost thread then. ;)

I knew it.

Catch the previews for next weeks episode? Jin was speaking some mighty clear English. I have had suspicions that he speaks English as well, ever since he and Sun parted ways in the cave after it was revealed to him the she spoke English. He was leaving, and she yelled "I was going to leave you!". He stopped in his tracks and had a reaction that suggested he knew what she was saying.

Anyway.....

Is it real, or an experiment? I would suspect there will be a time during the season when we will have the opportunity to watch the countdown expire.

One thing I caught on the film they watched, and I'll check it out on the tape. The film was talking about the 6 locations, and said that this, location three, was put here because of the strong magnetic fields on "this part of the island". Now, why not just say "this island"? I infer from this that all 6 of the locations (assuming they all really exist) are on the island.

I tend to doubt it is some fake experiment. The construction necessary on that location would imply it is real, or at least that it was formerly some secret military facility. I doubt that a psych experiment could afford such an expense as the construction, and if it were a secret military facility, that some psych experiment could be staged there due to classified status.

Love this show. I just realized, however, that next week I will be driving to Anaheim with my kids. I will of course set it up to record, but will not be able to watch it until the following Monday night. Sigh.

I caught that as well. Someone on MiceChat suggested that it could just be something he picked up on the island, but I don't think so. His speech was very clear and articulate and he looked clean and healthy and appeared to be sitting in a room somewhere. I'm thinking flashback and a big secret on his part. LOST

If the next episode begins again with Jack saying Locke being held at gun point and Jack saying, "All roads lead to *this*?" I'm going to crack some skulls. Put it in the "Last week on LOST," writers. That's what those are FOR. I hate when they spoils perfectly good episode time reshowing the same damn scene over and over again, even if its setting up a different chracter's POV.

So, Jin excapes from a rabid band of cannibal "Otters" only to be immediately recaptured. Are they otters, the Others, OR...other survivors? My betting hand is on the last. At first I suspected a sort of Lord of the Rings set-up. Jack's band of survivors are the more civilized, including their own version of Piggy (Hurley). Michelle Rodriguez's (character name?) band of survivors are the ones who go primal. But on second thought, maybe they've had a much rougher time of it since the crash. Maybe they didn't have any medical supplies. Or a doctor on hand. Perhaps they've been attacked by the Others, etc. They're certianly more defensive and untrusting, so I'm thinking they've got good reason to be on their guard.

I was disappointed in the orientation film. They couldn't make it look a little older? Or believable? The music was really jarring. They couldn't find something more generic and 70s? The psychic stuff was neat, though, 'cause it explains someone like Walt, or the weird mystical stuff (like all the passenger's strange personal connections to one another; for example, Jack's wife killing Shannon's father in that car crash).

Jack is quickly becoming a favorite character on the show. I liked his breakdown, which I took to be his final acceptance that there is definitely something otherworldly going on that cannot really be explained, but it's happening all the same. It's not just coincidence.

Desmond running off to be by himself, when he's BEEN by himself for 3 years makes NO sense to me unless he really is working for Dharma (stupid name) and his story about randomly winding up there is bunk. I think it may be bunk. Otherwise, wouldn't he be craving the company. He was shown as being an affable conversationalist in his "previous life", so why wouldn't he want to stay with other people? Unless he's EVIL!

Gah. GAH! Not sure how I feel about this new development but it's only episode 3. For now, I'll just be happy that they'll get to shower. And, apparently, steal food. Hurley!

I gotta figure they are other survivors. Ana Lucia was on the plane. I would suspect that they have encountered "the others" and are therefore very suspicious of anyone they meet. And she is obviously with the people who are holding Jin, Sawyer, and Mike.

As far as Desmond running off....it made total sense to me. For at least three years he's been in that...bunker?...entering the numbers to stop a countdown that he obviously believes is necessary to continuing his survival and perhaps the survival of the world. When he thought the computer was destroyed, survival instincts kicked in and he wanted to get as far away from it as possible. I would suspect that he'll be back after a few days (island days) when he realizes that the island has not exploded. Of course, if he believes it to be something biological (he keeps injecting himself with something and took all of it with him), he may stay away longer.

Not really spoilery, but in consideration of GD's request:

If it was the little helper book, understanding he only got it a couple days earlier, he sure did pick up on it fast. A dream would be a dramatic device that they haven't used yet, and I suppose they could introduce it, but everything they've shown about the survivors has been real to the character thus far in the show. I am more inclined to think it is a flashback and that he has known English this whole time.

That would disappoint. It's kind of compelling, but to find out they were *both* pretending is kind of...urgh. And it makes the anger he felt towards her all the more infuriating. Unless he was really just angry at himself. Two people in love, who felt the need to deceive each other because of circumstances. Maybe he was pissed at the irony of it. But why not tell her, before he fled the island, that he could speak English, as well. Why keep pretending around the rest, too. Unless he's EVIL. But I hope not. I really hope he's as good as he appears. It is kind of fishy that he stopped in his tracks that one time she yelled at him in English. At the time, I just assumed he stopped because she was screaming at him, and maybe that was unusual for them. Ponder, ponder.

Well, he obviously kept many secrets from his wife regarding his employment. I kind of see Jin as almost....reluctantly evil? Having worked in an organized crime environment for...however long it's been....perhaps that way of doing things to achieve your goal becomes the way you do things in every area of life.

And I don't think it was the fact that she speaks English that made him so mad with her....it was that it was revealed in such a way that made him look like an utter fool in front of everyone. Being dishonored like that is big in Asian culture. Why else would he beat the hell out of Mike over the watch?

Not the best episode, imo. Very predictable in some respects. Like, suddenly Rose was the focus, meanwhile they confirm that there's another group of survivors. Anyone surprised in the least that Bernard was one of them? And the story kinda went nowhere. We learned that, um, those guys were all survivors from the rear of the plane. And...um...oh, they think the raft guys are dead. That's it. No new mysteries, no character progress. Nada. Feh.

Bernard is WHITE!!!!!!

Well, you weren't expecting it.

Question is, why did the survivors in the back of the plane go all Lord of the Flies, what happened to the rest of them, and why is Rambolina all up in everyone's grill?

Well, I bet they didn't have a doctor. No doctor=lots of death. Lots of death=desparate survival mode. I suppose Rambolina just took initiative. I mean, the other choices for leader seem to be old Bernard, useless blonde chick, and tribal warrior dude. I guess she was bossiest, so she won.

Not a favorite episode. There was a lot of goodness towards the end, but mostly it was kind of 'meh'. I'm really looking forward to learning more about the other survivors, though. My long ramble:

Let me ask you, those big metal "back doors", the ones that Hurley takes Rose through (and that served as Desmond's exit)...have we ever seen them before, sometime in the first season? Because if not, they could find a tiny secret hatch, but NOT two ENORMOUS metal doors?

I liked Sayid's Chernobyl remark. Gave me chills. I think Desmond is a liar, liar and he didn't just happen upon that hatch; I think he's involved in whatever this island plo tis.

As soon as I saw a white man in his 50s walking towards the Rafters, I thought, "I'M SO RACIST! THAT'S ROSE'S HUSBAND!" This whole time I'm thinking, "Wow, Rose is either a lot younger than I think or Adebisi (that tall black actor's name when he was on Oz with the actor who plays Michael) is a lot older." Man. It's not 1950, Audra! I LOVE that Adebisi is nice. He played a real badass on Oz.

You know, I really liked that one scene with Matthew Fox and Michelle Rodriguez from last season. I really liked her in a sort of subdued, non-tough role, and I thought, "Wow, she was cast against type." Ah, how naive I was! She was in FULL Resident Evil mode tonight and I f**king hated her guts. Sawyer can be an ass, but Jesus honey, you're not a BAD guy so stop beating the s**t out of a guy who has been shot and is seriously looking ill, like he might have gangrene/poison arm! or something. And THEN to show them flirting in the next episode? VOMIT. Just VOMIT. All over myself. I did love the blackout and then..."Bitch." That made me laugh. The rock toss made me smirk.

Hurley, losing DJ Qualls as your best-friend? Nothing to cry about, honey. Aside from showering and having a towel scene, what's Kate's stupid Hatch job? As for the towel scene...MAN! You've SEEN her in a bikini, Jack! Heck, you've probably seen her naked. What? You have special changing caves now? How's a towel any different? Unless it's cause she was all dripping wet.

I really did like the dream sequence, though. That was neat and funny. And I'm REALLY glad Jin isn't pretending that he can't speak English. Though, Jin baby, 40 days on an Island with only English speaking people and you haven't picked up a few coherent phrases by now? C'mon.

Charlie actually irritated me less in this episode. I did like him giving Claire the peanut butter, and her expression. I like her a lot. The whole music montage at the end was great. I was all glowing with warmth after an episode that annoyed me a lot. As soon as her vagina is all healed up, they'll have sex and then he'll start snorting the Virgin Mary.

I do love the other survivor plot line. You've got one group of survivors and you think they're it. And you watch and think, "My God, how could it be any worse!?" And then you meet the tail end survivors, who have obviously been relentlessly attacked since they crashed, and you realize how much worse it could have been for Jack's gang. Not having a doctor would obviously hurt them; some of the crash survivors probably died from injuries. But I think they've mostly been tormented by the Others.

Oh, and though it was a predictable thing to do, I really loved that Sun (is that how her name is spelled) buried the bottle, keeping the Islander's hope of a rescue mission alive.

"Island Baby" was a treat, as was Locke's reaction. It was a total Jimmy Fallon moment for the Stepfather, who couldn't seem to control his laughter.

Oh, I really did love that happy (calm before the **** STORM) food sharing moment.

Next week: THE OTHERS! I hope. Rock on!

Also, next week: Jin gets naked! I hope. If God really is good. Rock on!

Also, I dread the following:

M. Rodriguez (Ana?) and Jack share a flirty scene last season. Implies they'll hook up eventually. Meanwhile, Kate and Jack finally hook up. Ana and Sawyer look like they're in for a tussle. Then the two halves of the plane are reunited AND you've got a love square. Sawyer really likes Kate. Kate secretly wants to bang Sawyer because he's hot and she pities him. Ana really likes Jack but has had fun banging Sawyer. Jack recalls he had a thing for Ana, but is kind of in love with Kate...or maybe he's meant to be in love with Ana. Kate thinks she's in love with Jack but she's also drawn to Sawyer...maybe she loves Sawyer? Me thinks Ana and Kate won't get along so well.

I'm worried it will turn into LOST Temptation Island LOST

God.

Also, someone give Shannon more to do, DAMMIT!

As to the metal doors...1) they didn't find huge f'ing pirate ship either. 2) the implication is that they are pretty well concealed behind overgrowth. Hurley, who knew where it was, had to scan a bit to find it when he was showing rose, and even then she didn't see it until hurley moved the vines aside. Same with when the other survivors brought the raft dudes to their bunker, they were right up next to it and didn't see it until Ana moved the vines. So the other survivors were lucky and stumbled on it, the rest weren't.

The dream sequence was great. I love how they tried to sneak the fully cooke plate of steak past us. I'm like, "What the hell, steak in a box?!"

I wonder what location the other survivors are at. Did anyone notice any DHARMA symbols?

I do not like Michelle Rodriguez in this. I had my hopes up that she wouldn't be playing her typical role; then again I'm not sure she can play anything else.

I wasn't too disappointed in this episode, looking at it more as a break then anything else. We are left with more questions like:

Are they in the same hatch? (I think no)
Where are the people who should have been in that hatch?
Why is Sawyer still wearing his shirt
What location is the second hatch?
Why is Sayid still wearing his shirt?
Is the island a nuc site?

EH, you're cracking me up.

I, too, assumed Bernard was black. Or rather, I assumed that they'd cast him as black. I guess I'm prejudiced regarding casting. :p

Survivors from the tail....yeah, no doctor....but come on. I kept thinking of that South Park where the parents are all put in jail and the kids take over, telling tales of "the long long ago" when they were civilized, which turns out to have only been a few days. They're going to have to do a really good job to convince me how a group of middle class Americans/Australians can turn to feral dictatorship in under 2 months. It's one thing if they're suspicious or frightened of new people, especially because of the oddness of the island, but the latina leader chick was rather ridiculous. "What I say goes"? Then kicks the sh!t out of a guy with a bullet in his shoulder? Yeeeaaaah.

I'm glad Hurley fixed his problem. Although if you're worried about people squabbling over food, wouldn't they squabble anyway when you hand it out all at once? I expected to at least see some bartering...."can I have some crackers for my peanut butter?"....but maybe they'll address that later. I assumed they were supposed to eat everything that night, but IRL I'm sure people would secret things away for leverage later.

BTW, Hurley only had problems when he hid information. And why the hell doesn't a guy worth $65 mil get a stomach staple, or at least a stylist??

Sooo....they've basically said that the Others are not these tail survivors, right? The Others have a boat. The Others have Walt. Now I'm trying to remember what the people on the boat looked like, but all I can remember is the Aussie guy with the beard. There was at least one woman and a black man, right?

When I found out Jin was speaking English in a dream only I had a good laugh at all you commercial-watching speculators. :p ;) Except Gn2, of course.

Yeah, two hatches are in different places, and the tail group hatch has nothing in it - just a cement hole in the ground. But does it have a computer??

Hmmm. My point is that I think they've been regularly attacked by the Others for two months. I think members of their group have been repeatedly assaulted, kidnapped and murdered. And so any person they don't recognize, automatically assume it's an Other. Much like the Losters from Season 1, one of the Others may have even been pretending to be a survivor. So, I think Ana-Annoys-the-Crap-Out-of-Me has some sort of military background, or maybe she's a cop. Instead of a doctor becoming a sort of leader figure, she actually assumed command of a group of people that were being systematically reduced. The girl and Bernarnd weren't exactly Lord of the Flies insane; it was mostly Ana and the large black Dude who played Adebisis on Oz, and who will hopefully have a real name next week. His disposition was kind once he realized they really were fellow survivors.

So, bascially we've seen a group of survivors who had it pretty easy compared to the tail enders. If I were being regularly attacked, I'd become pretty friggin' paranoid and militant. And untrusting. So it's not really Lord of the Flies so much as they've had a MUCH harder time of it. I mean, 40 people can do a lot to help each other. But a handful of castaways? What if none of them knew how to hunt or identify poisonous berries. Heh.

It'll be interesting to see their flashbacks, and to see how they mix in with the rest of the survivors once they meet up.

As for the Others, they're island hillbillies!

I see your point. I'm thinking now of how I felt when they took Walt. If that happened to my group over and over I'd be all insane too. I still think Ana took it a bit too far, but it's forgivable. True about not having Locke (or Kate) with them either.

Early on in season one I had a thought about how little panic we'd seen. The main characters had it pretty together considering, and the background people didn't freak out either. Now it seems they've saved the bad side of this craziness for the other side of the island. We've seen "best case scenario considering the insane circumstances", and now we're going to see worst.

I loved this episode. Nothing really happened, but I enjoyed learning more about Hurley. I loved how horribly insecure he was and seeing his transition and the pain he went through losing the friend.

What really made the episode for me was Bernard. I too, assumed the buff black guy was Rose's husband. The whole episode I'm thinking, "Wow. Rose has a hot younger man." Then when Bernard showed up I smacked myself on the head. When Bernard started crying I cried with him. Then Rose stashing the candy bar for him really got to me. I'm such a sap. I'm angry that they've neglected Rose so much before this episode. For weeks I've been wondering where she was.

I've netflixed the first season, so maybe I can actually pay attention to an entire episode and not have so many questions. I wish this was a nine o'clock show. It falls right at Indi's bedtime at eight.

No new episode until Nov. 9? Well, that certainly sucks.

Liked the backstory of Jin and Sun meeting. Not much moving the plot or the mysteries along. While I like the introduciton of the new characters, I am a bit disappointed that we haven't seen as much of Locke, Kate, Jack, Sayid, etc. I like Mr. Echo, was it? Aca Lucia isn't doing it for me, though.

I am anxious to find out more about the tail survivors encounters with the others.

Just how many "others" walked by? Many of the legs looked like legs that had just passed, so I wasn't sure if they were just the same legs or if they were all different individuals.

I loved it. I tend to enjoy the slow pace of the show. If too much happens, they cn't really justify drawing it out for a few seasons. I understand that if nothing happens, that's even worse, but I like slow reveals.

I loved the slight change to the flashbacks, to incorporate two memories rather than one. I love Sun and Jin ,and their history interests me.

Jin is finally learning some English. "FISH!" Good boy, Jin. Good boy.

So, Michael has had little more to do this season besides scream Walt's name. And, apparently, the Others are amazing trackers but cannot hear a grown man shouting his head off in the jungle. Hmmm.

I LOVE "Otherbisis/Echo/Eco". Very happy he was featured so prominently in this episode. Not sure if his name is Echo or Eco. Either way, he's Adebisi from Oz and I really, really like him as an actor. And as more eye-candy. And as a bizarre hybrid: Mr. Tracker Head Butt Man vs. Calm, Sweet Nice Guy. Dig it. When he bent down to look at the aloe plan and Jin said, "Michael?!" I thought, "Oh my God, the Others turned Michael into a plant!" Heh.

Speaking of the Others, their hillbilly Deliverance legs and silent walk gave me the SHIVERS. I loved it.

Sun freaking out about her lost wedding ring was well done, and I really liked her moment with Kate. Kate loves Sawyer! Kate loves Sawyer!

Poor Sawyer and his Poison Arm of Impending Death.

Ana-Lucia didn't drive me bat**** crazy this episode. She was more chill, and a crappy fisherwoman.

Also really enjoyed Locke's little moment with Sun. He was all warm and snuggly.

It was only the fourth episode, and it was better - IMO - than last week's. Last season was pretty slow going, too.

Now, give us more Sayid and Shannon, please. What the hell have they been up to?

Damn the World Series cutting into Lost's time, though. DAMN IT TO HELL!

I finally watched it late last night. I enjoyed this epsiode, learning more about Sun and Jin. I feel so bad for Jin and was so proud that he let the little boy use the restroom and then quit his job instead of taking the "first warning". I think it adds to how hard it must have been for him to go against what he considered right to please Suns father. Is it weird to feel bad or proud of characters on TV? ;)

I think we're so used to the OMG is it next week yet cliffhangers that two consecative slow episodes killed the "buzz". However with the two slow episodes I think it eases us into a 3 week break a bit easier. Or maybe I'm fooling myself because I want to know who is "LOST" forever! I'm hoping it's a character from the back of the plane who we haven't grown attached to (except Bernard; I can't wait for their reunion).

Watching the entire first season in two weeks probably skewed my perceptions. Although in the first season you at least learned something vital about each character in most episodes.

The good moments you point out were good. Although having Kate like Sawyer is lame lame lame. LAME! Yeah, he's hot, whatever, but come on, the guy is a jerk. Oh, she feels such tender loss, because Sawyer is gone? Lame!

BTW, like Mr. Echo said, the Others can't be found if they don't want to be. I'm sure they heard Michael yelling like a jackass but decided to leave him be for now.

Happily, I'll be out of the country for one of the break weeks, so I won't feel the loss as much :)

I like it. Because they have a lot in common. They've shared more about their lives with each other than they have with any other survivor, really. So I buy a mutual interest and attraction. They're flawed in similar ways, though she's a lot more helpful in general. That besides, I like the jerk. Aside from Charlie, I don't think there's a single Loster I don't like.

Oh, my GOD. He's rude and whiney and has spent most of his time trying NOT to do heroin and trying to get into a pregnant girl's panties. I liked him in earlier episodes, but he's been annoying since he got hung. And he treats Hurley like crap. That peanut butter business was infuriating (although, in the end, worth it for Claire's reaction...she's adorable.)

Charlie:
"Driveshaft...more like "suck-shaft" - Indeed! (heh)
British, so is easily confused with being witty. (I kid. He *can* be funny sometimes.)
But, going back to his British accent, he sounds like he's mumbling most of the time.

Gah. GAH. He drives me nuts. I can't wait for him to O.D. on the Heroin Mary.

Okay, I don't hate him that much. But I hope Claire hooks up with someone else so he can be all sad...and, in his sadness, quiet. Very, very quiet.

I prefer the dimpled mint julip drinking cowboy with the poison arm and attitude to the Lost hobbit any day of the week. And I'd probably take Jin above them all, based on looks alone. I'd marry Jack, if he promised not to cry so much. And I'd probably make out with Locke, if I'd never seen his terrible flashback comb over. Then there's Sayid...

Actually, Hurley is probably the only one I could really hang with. And he's likely CRAZY.

Sayid actually has a much different british accent, and seeing him speak normally makes me realize how much the fake accent goes towards my attraction towards him. Hurley a much more awesome version of all the guys I actually was friends with in high school - interesting people but completely unattractive. I'd be Hurley's friend forever but if he ever attempted to come on to me...yeech. I'm having teen flashbacks...

I'm also rather glad that they killed off Boone...unattractive and annoying.

Well, the others already knew where there were at - Walt was there, and the voices were heard, so the gunshot isn't going to alert them to anything they didn't already know.

Speaking of those sneaky others, that was a bit creepy when they were going up the side of the semi-cliff carrying Sawyer and one of the tailies just disappeared.

So do we have some sort of soylent green going on here? Do the others just grab someone when they're hungry? Why else, when they could very easily kill them all (easy pickin's when they were going up that psuedo-cliff), would they only be taking one? Maybe they just like to play.

What the Cap'n said. Why is it that when people say "shhh" on TV, the other people start making as much noise as possible?

If Shannon really wasn't dreaming, and that really was Walt in the hut, then why was he SOAKING wet, and where did he learn to talk backwards? If he got away from the others, he wouldn't act like this (not to mention disappear again) but if he's still held by the others I guess they could be making him pull odd sht like that...but why?? It's so random and freaky. I guess it's pretty obvious that whoever the others are, they're insane, so it's not too much of a stretch.

It had to be actually Walt when he said "shh" because Sayid saw him...unless the others have crazy projection technology or something.

Of course they had to kill her after making her all likable - the whole point of her character was her bitchiness.

Seems more likely to me that it's some weird spiritual/mystical/timetravely thing going on.This makes me realize that even though they've hinted at all kinds of magic and mystery (black wispy smoke pulling John underground, for instance) they still have not shown us whether any of that is "magic" or "mechanical". Remember the mechanical noises during one of the "monster" chases? I was so sure they were going to show us some robot dinosaur...

They're clearly purposely being wishy-washy on the mystical vs. physical thing. But with the too coincidental overlap between survivors' backstories, a dripping wet backward talking Walt, and bizarre black cloud that can grab someone, I doubt they can have an entirely physical and "rational" explanation of the island. Weirdness abounds.

Walt is "special," it's probably the reason the Others took him. We already know that psychic phenomena happen on the island from seeing Jack's dad, and Boone's vision of Shannon's first death. (Death sucks) We know from the Dharma Initiative orientation film that the Island is a large scale communal research compound (gone bad) consisting of 6 stations studying Meteorology, Psychology, Parapsychology, Zoology, Electromagnetism and Utopian Social (unintellegible.)

Get your Orient on. (http://www.thehansofoundation.org/dharma.html)

Anyhoo, spooky things happen on the island; wet, creepy Walt is not Walt literally walking around the island talking backwards, but it is Walt, wherever he is, communicating with the Losties.

Anyhoo, spooky things happen on the island; CP does have one point. Two people saw this one. The others COULD have been elaborate hallucinations. No one else saw Jack's dad. No one else saw Bimboone getting killed. Sayid saw Walt.

What a great episode. I loved the interaction of Ana Lucia and Goodwin. It was very interesting to hear him speak knowing he was one of the others.

Was it Goodwin that earlier this season Eko and Michael came across in the jungle while looking for Jin? I seem to recall that was who Eko said it was.

The list thing....what is it about him saying they weren't "good people"? Was that what he said?

Lost. Is. Back.

OMG that was amazing. I honestly don't remember the last episode I was on the edge of my seat for most of the show.

I think it was Goodwin they ran across. And we know where the teddy bear came from too.

I wondered about the list. We'll learn what it means eventually.

I really liked AL in this episode. It was nice to see how she turned into the person she is now. And it was nice to see a small range of emotions from MR. But if she's attacking Sayid then I suspect I'll wish she was killed off again sooner than later.

But wow. I will have to watch it again.

I suspect Anna is ex-military, possibly special forces. Perhaps even on the plane to watch Sayid (known links to a terrorist element and former Republican Guard)...maybe CIA. Very sharp and observant...and military grade paranoid.

Cyndi...the one that suddenly vanished as they went up the hill.....another spy perhaps?

god I love that show.

Wow. Again.

Great episode. I still can't stand Anna though. Now that we know that it was her who killed Shannon (which I actually could almost kiss her for) I think there's going to be a great showdown soon. Sayid looks like a man possessed of supreme quiet vengeance. I hope hope HOPE that he opens up a jumbo can of the ol' whoop @$$ on Anna next week.

Theory ahead!

What if the Others are really people from the other 5 stations or one of the 5. The Dharma Initative left them behind for some reason (part of the experiment?).

And that knife. A military knife. Ya, it's a collecters item but let's say one of the Others had it. Perhaps Dharma is a military project?

I think AL is military or a cop. She has used a gun before, she is trained in observation and interrogation.

"(that guy) wasn't a good person. That's why he wasn't taken. Children are fine."

I love the vague stuff! Awesomeness. "A good person" could mean anything - good to turn into slaves, good to brainwash, good to sacrifice to the devil, good to eat. A freakin' shopping list!

I just wish he'd said more, of course.

Ana-Lucia is military of some kind. But she had a bunch of drinks before the flight. I doubt she was working, but I'd be she has something to do with Sayid, either right then or in the past. Especially since she just killed his love.

She was also an order-barking bitch from day one. This did not make me like her any more than I did before. I wish Sayid would kill her in the next episode.

Funny to watch Bernard fall to pieces, while his wife was so stoic on the other side of the island.

You gotta love the worst-case scenario - no water or supplies of any kind because the tail landed in the ocean. No alcohol for wounds. Far less of them, and the crazy Others all over them. Were there more "good people" in this group, or were they just easier prey for the Others? I'm thinking the latter, even after two of their guys were killed.

BTD, I didn't even connect the teddy bear, good call.

Why is this bunker cleared out, except for one obvious box left over? Did there used to be a button in there? They did not encounter the numbers at all.

I have to admit I didn't like the choices they made for the guy that was interrogated by Ana. He should have done more pleading, more denying. As it was he just sat there and stared at her, and I don't believe anyone who wasn't an Other would do that.

When they first took them (the raft guys) to their bunker a few weeks ago I wondered if it was really empty or they just hadn't gotten into the inner chamber. The bunker on the other side of the island seemed to have outside chambers/passageways before you go into the actual bunker part.

Ana-Lucia is even more annoying this week than last. I agree she must have some sort of military background, but she can't be that good if she was lost without Mr. Eko when he went with Jin to find Michael.

I thought they were trying to make it look like he was an Other to throw the viewers off of Goodwin be an Other. But, being somewhat conspiratorial, I suspected he was an other when he was making the fire so efficiently.

You didn't hear him screaming let me out of here? The camera wasn't on him but you could hear him screaming.

She was tough and loud before the real trouble even started, and instead of discussing things, she barks condescendingly.

I agree. And you can't really say that she is the reason they are still alive since the true Other was with the group. Of course he was until she killed him.

She also threw an innocent man in a pit and starved him for days, and shot at a moving blur in the bushes that ended up being an innocent person. I'm sure she had some horrible past but that's only an explanation for the fact that she's a dangerous jerk.

Yup, that she did. But being in that situation, tormented by the Others, seeing the kids kidnapped, hearing unaudiable voices but not seeing the people and knowing that there are people out there who are trying to cause you harm would make people do very irrational and stupid things. After knowing how the Others snuck up on the beach and overpowered the Tailies like they did I can't really blame her for shooting first. I think this episode tried to make AL a sympathic character and at least for me it worked; to a point.

If the the people on the list of Tailies abducted by the Others were on there because they were "good", perhaps none of the other group (except Walt) have been abducted because they're not "good"?

If the Others planted a spy in the Tailies is there one in the other group? Also how did they plant one so quickly? Did they know the plane would crash and where?

Where did Desmond go? He ran out of the bunker weeks ago and nada.

How come Hurley (and the rest for that matter except maybe Locke) have lost zippo weight on the island?

Where are the Others keeping the boat they used to abduct Walt? Does that mean they have the ability to leave the island?? It was a decent sized boat. And speaking of boats - what about Desmond's boat?

Why did Mr. Eko not talk for 40 days after he killed the Others? Religion? He told Ana-Lucia that he was talking again because 40 days had passed.

We know the SOS recording was looping for 16 years and we can go from that that Danielle has been on the island for 16 years as well.

Yet maybe the recording hasn't been going for 16 years. Maybe it was set up by the Others. Do we even know fore sure that Danielle isn't an Other? Do we know how long her team was there before the Others showed up? They planted one spy they may have planted more.

How long ago did Dharma set up shop on the island?

True - but it doesn't mean he was an other.

I do not think Danielle is an other. Her motivations do not seem to be "other like".

Ethan took Claire. Very other like. Danielle is related to that in some way - remember the scratches on her arm and remembrance of doing that to Danielle?

I do not think Danielle would have been in a position to infiltrate the others to free Claire. I do not think Danielle is an other and was in on the capture of Claire. If Danielle could not have infiltrated the others to free Claire, but is not an other herself, then Ethan is not an other.

This has been my thinking.

However, after seeing Goodwin in action, I have changed my thinking to that Ethan is most likely an other. There are a lot of similarities between Ethan and Goodwin in mannerisms, knowledge, brutality, and infiltration techniques.

But that leaves me with the hole of Danielle being involved some way with Claire (as is evidenced by the scratches on her arm). Ethan took Claire, and I don't think Danielle is an other. But again, it's hard for me to see how Danielle is able to free Claire from the others.

It'd be funny if they actually got the actors to lose weight...but as anyone who watches Survivor can attest, a truly deserted person starts to look really thin really quickly. Ah, Goodwin. Why couldn't you have been the Other that got away, got some redemption, saved Walt and gone back to find the Losters to become part of their little Survivor Party? You were so handsome, like a real Man of Gondor you were. So...so...delicious. Of course, after you came running out of the jungle in your dry clothes, looking all helpful and attractive, I tought, "Audra, my girl, this one's gotta be a bad guy...because YOU like him."

DAMMIT!

So I built my hopes up for a possible reoccurring role on the show as The Other Who Got Away and Then Got Redeemed, and then Ana-Lucia stakes him. As if he were some loser novice vampire in Buffy the Vampire Slayer! How COULD the writers treat my sweet baby Goodwin that way?

He *was* rather sinister and creepy when his secret was found out. He gave me the chills. But still I thought, Flee! FLEE GOODWIN! And live. LIVE FOR ME!!!!! And become a good guy!

But, no. He’s the staked corpse of episodes gone by. I really should have remembered when Ana-Lucia said, “Remember Goodwin?” I really should have remembered.

Ah, next week: Kate kisses Sawyer’s forehead. I’ll never have to hear Shannon’s crying, whining again (accept in flashbacks…no doubt she’ll be wearing a terrible wig). Now if only they’d all vote Charlie off the island, I’ll be pleased. If Locke and Claire get it on, maybe Charlie will simply drown himself, or O.D. on Heroin Mary.

Also next week: Ana-Lucia and Sayid act out a scene from their two-person show, “Desert Storm: The Unhappy Years”. Cause I’m betting cash that she was in Desert Storm, too.

I thought it was a good episode. I'm not too shocked about Kates backstory but I think there is more to it then what they have told us.

Apparently Sayid was on the TV in the recruiting station. It's hard to see, I'm going to have to look for myself.

I missed how they found the Bible and a missing splice of tape. Don't try and use the computer to communicate with the other stations... I wonder what will happen now that Michael has... And the blast doors. Very interesting. Combine that with the cement that Sayid last saw at Chernobel (I think) and you have yourself a good case for a nuc site.

The continuity...the plane...Eko's brother. Just, YES!

Ana-Lucia not saying anything, and being really touched when Jin brings his wife over to meet her. Lovely. Hurley helping Blondie with her tent. Lovely.

Sawyer and Kate funnies. Nice way to break up the darker story arc.

Redemption seems key to why the Losters are on the island, but how the island "selects" people remains to be seen.

So where did "Walt" tell Michael to come to meet him (if that info was in next week's preview, don't tell me)?

I went to a site (if anyone would like a link, let me know) where someone got Tivo screens captures of the smoke images projected around Eko. They include the man he killed as a child, his brother, the church, a couple of women that I think were in the church when he came in demanding to be ordained, and a couple others.

And GD - there was nothing in the preview about where Walt (if it is in fact Walt doing the typing) told Michael to go.

Wow, what a fantastic episode! I’m still laughing about the Jesus Stick line. That was awesome.

I like that everyone has come to really care about Sawyer and how he’s a little weirded out by it. That’s a nice little touch.

Echo’s backstory was truly heart wrenching. We’ve seen some sad ones, but his just tore my heart out. That’s some very high quality writing there. I really hope that nothing happens to him. He’s one of the most intriguing characters, and if he’s not made a permanent fixture it will be a tremendous shame.

Also, Echo seriously has some brass cajones. Even Locke looked a little freaked when he saw the monster, but Echo was like, “Oh, hey, it’s the smoke monster! Well, Mr. Smoke Monster, why don’t you come over here with me and my Jesus Stick and we’ll just have a little staring match and see who looks away first. Yeah! That’s what I thought, float away! This is a No Smoking jungle now!”

I think they should play the theme from Shaft whenever he appears on screen from now on. :snap:

So did anyone catch the "Revelations" episode. It was just a HUGE flasback of everything from both sides of the island.

I am curious, as I didn't think of this before, the first time watching this. If Rose and Bernard were together and she tells Jack that her husband is is the bathroom when the turbulance hits and within 10 seconds the plane is in 2 pieces midair, how is it that he is seatbelted in a seat and stuck in a tree on the Tailie's side of the island after the crash?

I noticed that too. For some reason I thought they were sitting seperately but from what Rose said to Jack apparently not.

And is Micheal really talking to somone or is he imagining it. When Jack sat down to chat with him while he was typing to "Walt", Jack got up and looked at the screen and it was blank. But I didn't see Michael move to turn off the monitor or anything.

And why was the part of the tape that says don't use the computer for anything but the code removed to the other side of the island in the first place??

My theory about Bernard is that when the turbulence hit, he exited the bathroom and grabbed an empty seat near the back. He probably figured that would be safer than trying to make his way up the aisle, given the fact that people were flying all over the place.

I just about pooped when the bearded boat man spoke to them from the jungle. Scared the bejeebies out of me.

Was it some sort of truce being struck? If they don't go past that spot in the jungle then they can live without conflict?

I wonder why the others decimated the tail section survivors but seem to be content with the front section survivors.

I thought the other made interesting points - when you are new to someones home, do you eat their food without asking, open doors and go where you don't belong? Interesting.

And what has become of Desmond? Or Rousseau?Yes, what of them. I don't really see a correlation. From what Desmond said, he was brought there to push the button. All the guy said was they were opening doors they shouldn't - as in they weren't invited.

The thing that didn't make sense to me was that he seemed to think they should have known there were others there. They were there for a few weeks prior to acquiring that knowledge.

Only Spoilers if you did not see last night:

So the manuscript is actually a book called The Bad Twin (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1401302769/sr=8-1/qid=1139507036/ref=pd_bbs_1/102-6758145-3796953?%5Fencoding=UTF8)realeased in conjunction with Lost.

About the author Bad Twin is the highly-anticipated new novel by acclaimed mystery writer Gary Troup. Bad Twin was delivered to Hyperion just days before Troup boarded Oceanic Flight 815, which was lost in flight from Sydney, Australia to Los Angeles in September 2004. He remains missing and is presumed dead.

Now we know when the flight went down.

The woman in the diner was Kate's mom.

Question: Can we turn this into a thread that contains open spoilers for current episodes (with a warning in the title) or shall we continue putting everything into spoiler tags.

I don't post much about this here, but at MP I have gotten into the habit of tagging my posts since I usually can't wait to post, and the episode would not have aired in CA when I'm posting.

If the episode has aired in CA, I wouldn't bother tagging something that is associated with that episode or even the preview for the next ep (some people don't like to discuss previews). If I didn't see the ep when it aired, IMO it's up to me to avoid the thread until I have so I don't get spoiled.

That said, we need another Hurley flashback ep.! I'm thinking next week is a Sayid ep.

Is anyone else listening to the Official Lost podcasts? They are dropping little hints of the "easter eggs" that they put in the episodes, like signs in the background that will become significant later. It's kind of cool. :)

The only reason I caught that was because they showed a photo, and I rewound that part thanks in part to my handy dandy TiVoO.

Ya, I think he was on the fisherman boat. He looks so familiar but in the interrogation scene he reminded me of Antony Hopkins in Silence of the Lambs and maybe that's why I think he's familar. Henry Gale was the name of Dorthy's uncle in the Wizard of Oz. The hot air balloon was part of WoOz story too.

Wow, what an episode!!!!

I think the biggest thing learned from this episode is (hmm, did we ever come to a conclusion re: spoilers?)

The whole "This is our island" savage Others thing is a load of crap. Ragged "Other" grab hanging in a locker + fake bead + beard-guy without a beard talking to Ethan = They ain't livin' on that island, or at least they're being supplied from the outside. All an. Why? Still completely unkown. Were they really vaccinating the baby with the goal of keeping it? Quite possibly. But there's still zero hint of why.

Oh, and that end bit was badly written. No way Locke gets taken in by that lame, "Why do you let him call the shots?" Lame, but I'll just close my eyes and pretend they wrote a really good scene where Henry slowly manipulated John.

Oh, and Alex is cute. She was Malcolm's girlfriend in Malcolm in the Middle

scaeagles
03-02-2006, 07:47 AM
I think the thing that was agreed to is that if the episode has aired it is the responsibility of those who may not have viewed it yet to avoid discussion. That being said....

Wow. They sure aren't the island hillbillies they would like the crash survivors to beleive, are they? Lots of at least reasonably modern medical supplies (or so I gathered when Claire was looking down the hall prior to leaving).

I did catch that it as Malcolm's old girlfriend. I love Malcolm in the Middle. That show slays me. Anyway.....

Yeah, Locke losing it at the end was a bit of a let down, but I have a thought - perhaps Locke was playing Henry. "You have thin doors, " said Henry Gale. Locke knew that Henry could hear everything going on, so he made sure his reaction was audible. Locke has never, ever had such a reaction to anything on the island. Locke is playing Henry.

katiesue
03-02-2006, 09:16 AM
I agree the reaction was pretty out of character for Locke. Unless he's just doing for effect.

If the Others wanted the baby, then didn't get it, why move out all the medical supplies and nursery stuff? Apparently they can get off the island or at least to a better part. Why don't they still want Aaron? Is he somehow taintend now that he was born without their "help"? Or are they just waiting? They seem to have larger numbers and more/better equipment so you'd think that if they really wanted him it wouldn't be all that difficult to get him.

Why did Mr. Eko need to confess to Henry? Does he think he really is an Other and by telling him, Henry could relay the message that he is sorry for killing two of them? And what they heck is he doing cutting down all the bad trees? He seems to know something about the island that he's not letting the rest of the group in on.

Sawyer's still the best even if he's only got a few minutes of screen time.

Eliza Hodgkins 1812
03-02-2006, 03:22 PM
It's the best episode we've had in a while. Well, okay, that Eko episode was also pretty kickass... I loved all the performances and the plot twists and turns were unexpected, though as soon as I saw the lockers, I knew Kate was going to find Other costumes. Probably because we just saw Master Other looking scholarly and beardless in the flashback.

I don't think Locke was out of character at ALL. The island has given him a purpose - a purpose he seemed to lack in his pre-island life. We've seen how pathetic and powerless he's felt during some of his flashback clips. He doesn't want anyone on the island to know what he was like before. It makes complete sense that he'd struggle with this new identity of his. He's suddenly feeling week again. A taste of the insignifance he felt before, and he really didn't like it. I think his reaction was perfect.

This guy knows how to manipulate people. And he knew EXACTLY where to hit Locke where it hurts. Given that the Dharma film mentioned some of the experiments they were doing having to do with the paranormal and ESP, I really wouldn't be surprised if this guy (who I DO think is an Other) could read minds, at least a little bit. I think his line about the walls being thin is bulls&!t. People have been locked in there before and had to scream to be heard. It was very funny when he said, "You could always let me go," but it struck me as very odd that he could hear Jack and Locke's conversation - they were practically whispering. So, yeah, I think there's some mind reading going on.

For a second I thought Eko was going to slit his own throat. Good Lord, AAA is a fine actor. Love, love, love him.

The casting of Gabrielle's daughter is AMAZING. Looks just like a younger version of Rousseau (sp?).

Very curious to know what's up with Eko's trees.

Also, my friend Mike thinks that they WILL find a hot air balloon. But our guess is, if they have fake Other personalities (costumes, beards), they'd have no problem faking a balloon accident.

I'm sure they'll find it - I just have always figured it was someone else who crashed in it, not Henry, and that as an Other he's using it as a cover story.

I don't think Locke was out of character at ALL. I get what you're saying but what threw me is that it seemed Jack and Locke had switched positions. When they first got the prisoner, Locke was the one who teamed with Sayiid to imprison and torture the guy. Suddenly it's Locke who's unsure about what to do with him and Jack who wants to keep him indefinitely? They even showed a clip from that in the "previously on Lost". It doesn't make sense.

I just finished watching it. All hail TIVO!

My thoughts:

The plane mobile was almost disturbing. It has to be a clue. And I'm pretty sure the music was the song that Claire had her adoptive family promise to sing to the baby (put a shooting star in your pocket?).

I think Locke is playing Henry and I think they will find a balloon. I still say he is an Other.

Why didn't Alex escape with Claire?

I totally thought Eko was going to slit his throat.

And finally. Where are they? That medical equipment was modern and they disappeared with all their equipment, the paint is faded. They left their "Other" clothing and the beard behind. It will be interesting to see how they look next time they show up.

I love and hate this show. I dread the potential X-Files "wrap it all up" by wrapping up a few threads and ignoring the rest. I feel that this would have been a great miniseries, but might falter as a 5-year (did I imagine that?) arc.

Having said that - I haven't missed a single episode (yay dvr) and have developed a theory about the "secret".

A couple of key parts of my guess:
- There was no plane crash.
- All of the 'flashbacks' are suggested memories, not real ones.
- The "others" also part of the 'experiment' - they're not the puppetmasters.

There's more - but I won't bore you with it. So far, I haven't seen anything that directly refutes my hypothesis, which I've had since the beginning of the show.

When Ubergeek and I talked about it, he added a some observations that completely make sense (to my sci-fi warped mind, at least). I'll let him fill you in.

X-Files also started with a 5-year story line, but its success was so far beyond what they expected, that they decided to drag it out as long as possible. So by the time they finally did have to wrap it up, they had gotten so far off track that it was impossible to rein it in. Abrams has sworn that he's got a 5-year story and will stick to it.

One of the my main observations/beliefs is, along with Mousepods theory, is that:
By pressing the button, the survivors are in fact injecting themselves with whatever experimental drug they are under the influence of. (hence the forced realities/memories)

Using fear, Dharma is able to make them self perpetuate the experiment. And they don't even realize it. To me, the last episode made it more concrete for me. I could be wrong.

Funny! But do you write tech documentation as a profession???? ICK! I used to have to do that for software that I wrote and I despised every minute of it. Shudder. Now it's just the software. Thankfully.

No, it's not my profession. I'm writing documentation for my former and present positions since documentation for these positions is non-existant and the and everything is in my head.

Feel good episode all around.

Last 5 minutes... OMG. I knew it. We all did. Oy.

And next week? (Spoilers for GD)
The doors goes down. I bet the computer shorted out. HG is an other. Is it next week yet?

I was thinking Sun and the bald guy were gonna do it....but it didn't turn out that way. But still, when she was hugging Jin at the end, her face was saying "I just lied to him".

HG is one creepy dude.....but aren't they making it too obvious that he is an other? He's had a lot of time to think about how to manipulate the Lost people. But he probably is an other. That was one realistic scenario he told Jack and Jocke, and they sure did look creeped out.

Next week does look good! But I always think that. The only episodes I haven't liked are the Charlie flashbacks.

I was waiting for something to happen with Sun and the bald guy as well. I also found myself trying to calculate just how long they'd been on the island so if it was bald guy how far along she would be.

I agree they are making HG too obviously an Other. If he did crash a ballon on the island and lost his wife, I can't imagine he'd be trying to mess with his captors.

I saw the ballon as well in the previews. So why mess with them? That's the part I don't get. If you're held captive, and you've just given them what they asked for, why mess with them? Unless of course you've been messing with them the whole time? And who's to say he didn't really crash his ballon? Doesn't mean he can't be an Other.

I like that Hurly's running around with a secret stash of candy bars.

Also Sawyer was reading "Are you there God, it's me Margaret" - I LOVE that book. I'm sure it has some significance but I'm not sure what.

I enter the thread at last.

Tom and I spent two whole Lost lost weekends with few breaks (except, uh, a little beating with the Jesus stick) and we have finally gotten caught up to the current episode. It's our first one we'll watch as it's airing.

Everybody's been thanking god for TiVo. TiVo ShmiVo. I thank god for iTunes, which has allowed us to purchase the season thus far and put it on our video iPod and project it on things. Sweet.

I don't know who Henry Gale is, but whoever it is, it's not good.

The hieroglyphs (though one is not readable on any of the caps) are presumed to mean "to be killed," or something similar. From Egyptian. See the Lost section on Wikipedia.com.

How is "Henry Gale" going to explain that one?

So I guess Dharma still drops supplies to the people that are to be minding the hatch? Why did the blast doors come down? Was it to coincide with the drop of supplies? If so, why?

Was that Sayid's girlfriend (from his flashbacks) that Locke was inspecting the home for?

Don't lie to the ones you love! You dork Locke!

LSPoorEeyorick
03-29-2006, 11:11 PM
Interesting that "Henry Gale" came back to Locke, despite the fact that he wasn't who he said he was. Why didn't he just run?

And what in the world were those symbols on the door? Screencaps, please!

OK, time to download the next episode from iTunes! Wait... what? No? NOOOOOOOOOO! I refuse to wait a week for a new episode. Why do crappy shows like "American Idol" get to be on two nights a week, and the good stuff gets doled out so slowly? None of this "good stuff takes time to make." MORE!

I didn't notice the drop :( When did it occur so I can go back and watch on my TiVO? How would the supplies be dropped? And where were they dropped? I feel so confused.

I found this map (http://lost.cubit.net/pics/2x17/blastDoorMapOverlay.jpg) of the door overlay.

That does appear to be Nadia. I wonder if that was post Gulf War.

And why did the balloon have a box of Dharma food?

...
And why did the balloon have a box of Dharma food? The baloon didn't have food. The thing with the food was a parachute, not the baloon, separate things. There seems to have been a food drop.

My 2 theories.

1) The drops come FROM balloons. How else could they make the drops without anyone hearing an aircraft?

2) It's possible that either the Others or, if we subscribe to the theory that the Others are subjects of the same expriement, whoever's actually running things could have easily dug up his wife and replaced it with a black guy and a fake id.

Now, how are they going to get the blast doors back down to read the scribblings?

Wasn't Dorothy's last name in "Wizard of Oz", Gale?
And didn't the wizard get to/out of Oz in a balloon?

I can't take credit for that theory, it was passed along to me by a friend.

Was I the only one secretly hoping that after Locke got turned down, still on one knee, some absent minded driver would pull into the parking space he was kneeling in, running over his legs and crippling him? No beating from shady thugs, no perilous fall while hunting. Just got run over by a stupid driver after having a marriage proposal rejected.

Good theories! The aircraft wouldn't have been able to hide behind the whrring of the hatch for long. I think Sayid is right though, he would have known the details of buring his wife. Did anyone else notice how fast Jack and Kate discovered the parachute, Sawyer, Sayid and Charlie? It wasn't a days walk.

Now, how are they going to get the blast doors back down to read the scribblings?

Jumping in....I think that Michael is the father of Sun's baby. And when the baby is born, everyone is gonna know. She probably could have gotten away with passing off an Asian baby as Jin's, but  , now they are busted. Remember, Sun and Jin were estranged and not even talking to each other when she would have gotten pregnant...

The map BTD linked to shows the sequence: Sqrt(16), Sqrt(64), Sqrt(225). Which is 4, 8, 15. So that gives us a new set of numbers...

16, 64, 225, 256, 529, 1764

Nothing jumps out at me about those, but time to keep an eye out for those numbers too.

The I AM HERE points to what appears to be the room Locke was trapped in when the doors came down. That probably means that the thing marked "CV II" is behind the wall in the bunker, the one in the hallway that they noticed had a magnetic pull. And if you notice at the bottom it says, "Possible CV II inactive since accident". Interesting.

Some latin translations (thanks to online tools, I don't know Latin):

Cogite ergo doleo: I think therefore I hurt.
Sursum corda: Lift up your hearts (go to God)
Credo Nos in fluctu eodem esse: I trust we to the same place/purpose to be in the wave [I'm pretty sure it actuall means, "We keep returning to the same place", or something like that]
Malum consilium quod mutari non potest: Bad advice which moves no power
aegrescit medendo: the sick will heal
hic sunt dracones: the dragons are here
ut sit magna, tamen certe lenta ira deorum est: It may be big, but it will bend under the anger of god [something like that]

I was just going to bring this up. The blast doors drop when the food drops come as a way to keep the "experiments" inside when the drops happen.

So.. if a drop happened did the droppers see the people on the beach? Though it happened during the day it would be kind of hard to miss all the stuff and people on the beach, and the smoke from the fires.

Has anyone figured out how many days they have been on the island?

And what hatch are Zeke and his gang hanging out in. Do they have blast doors too? Or do they know the droppers and if they do know the droppers would they tell them about the Losties?

I thought of the Wizard of Oz connection as soon as he said his name was Henry Gale. I love that the guy on the ID was black. They just love "surprising" us with interracial casting that always makes me realize my own biases.

<snip>

Did anyone else notice how fast Jack and Kate discovered the parachute, Sawyer, Sayid and Charlie? It wasn't a days walk. The hot air balloon was in the trees, and pretty well up there. The parachute and drop were on the ground in a different location. Anna-Marie, Sayid and Charlie were on their way back to camp and they probably also saw the light beacon on the drop, which is why they met Jack and Kate there.

I love that this show is designed for the internet/Tivo generation, with clues (like the map) obviously MEANT to be copied and posted for everyone to theorize on. Bravo. :snap:

I go to a Lost themed message board and while I have never posted there, there are some serious, serious fanatics. I went there after the episode last night to read what people were saying about it and the diagram had already been posted with the difficult to read words typed up at the side and the latin translations as well. In AZ at this time of year (due to no daylight savings time switches), it is over only an hour after it is over on the east coast.
