View Full Version : Is this funny?

Is this funny, or am I just in an unbalanced state of mind at the moment?
Last night my mother-in-law was hanging out here watching turner classic movies, specifically "My fair Lady". Note: (That is NOT the funny part)
During one scene there is a rowdy song and dance rendition of "Get me to the church on time" wherein the entire pub spontaneously singes and dances along. Me mum-in-law made some comment about "them not making movies like that anymore" that started me thinking.... (which is usually not a good thing..)
Picture this, get about a dozen friends together (theater geeks perhaps) and practice a song/dance number. Then one-at-a time filter into some restaurant or bar and at a given signal you ALL launch into a big classic movie song/dance dance number seemingly spontaneously. When you finish you just sit back down like nothing ever happened.

Happens all the time! :snap: It gets challenging when we do songs from 'Avenue Q', it's hard to be spontaneous when you have to lug a foam puppet around with you...

Actually, if you have ever been to Joe's Crab Shack (There is one near DL), that is what the entire wait staff does. Each hour, they all stop what they are doing and do a whole musical number, then go right back to work. It's silly and fun, especially if you have prepped with a few of their rather large drinks.

We could do the Disney version and break into "No shilly shally, no dilly dally, let's have a drink on it now!" (from the Happiest Millionaire). But, who has a good Irish brogue?

You know, while we were lounging outside City Hall (when I made my inquiries about tickets to the 50-hour party), there was a nother group of Disney Geeks, who broke into song for some of the Main Street tunes - one girl even was doing a bit of a dance number. I thought, at the time - that we should do the same at the next song as a bit of friendly Disney Geek competition a la West Side Story:
When your a Geek
You're a Geek all the way
From your first pin event
To your last dying day
etc.

I worked at a place in college that did this. Black Barts in Flagstaff, AZ. Everyone took their turn at the mike (5-6/night) and twice an hour it was the whole wait/bus staff doing a group number. Fun. But everyone expected. I'm not sure the reaction of the customers if it was unexpected, and I don't think the employees would much appreciate it.
