View Full Version : Virtual Magic Kingdom - Sneak Preview Beta!
Mr. Fusion
05-23-2005, 02:26 PM
Virtual Magic Kingdom is finally up online as a "Sneak Preview Beta":
http://vmk.disney.go.com/vmk/en_US/index
As to the "Sneak Preview Beta", here's what they have to say:
Disney's Virtual Magic Kingdom is a new game, and we're still testing and reviewing the way it works. But it's perfectly safe to play; the game software can't harm your computer at all and there are already Cast Members in the Kingdom, looking out for your safety.
We're telling you that it's in Beta because we want you to understand that the Kingdom's still "under construction" and some things will change, most likely in response to what you tell us! And because this is a "sneak peek," we'll be limiting the number of Guests in the kingdom at any time, so sometimes you might have to wait to play.
See you online!

hmm... this is complicated by the fact that my computer is under the weather....
Still, I must see.

I'm wandering the "park" now. I submitted "Moonliner" but I suspect they will nix it.... Guess I'll have to fall back on an older name like StanTheBat...
I think we are going to need a forum for this before too long...
Judging from the first few comments, you are supposed to go looking for hidden mickeys. At least that's all the first three people I talked with seemed to care about...

So far, it's been really annoying trying to say anything to anybody else, because everything I type is considered unacceptable.

Or maybe Matt needs to clean up his ****ing language.;)

05-24-2005, 12:28 AM
This is funny, as the dictionary is quite small in words you can say. For example, my username of Monorail Man didn't get approved by the CMs, we'll see how they like my real first name, Hastin.
I'm quite impressed with it so far, and there are a few quirks, but it's alot of fun. I just dislike the layout of the Hub. (And what's with Walt's hand not being raised? ;) )
Moonliner
05-24-2005, 04:39 AM
While in general, I agree that CoasterMatt needs to clean up his ****ing language :) , in this case he has a point. Words like "tomorrow" are banned from the game.
However I must admit after hitting that kind of limitation I did try a few pithy comments to see what I could come up with  (note I did not send them):
"Please jump my bones"
"Please push me hard"
etc....

I'm going to try again -- I found it frustrating. They allowed me to use my real first name as part of my user name, maybe because it's the user name I've always used on the Disney sites. But they wouldn't allow me use it in the game. My name is Gayle. I hate when sites ban my name. :(

I got in last night, created my character, and read ALL the rules... but then right as I went to play.. *BLAM* I lost my connection. :( Not their fault, totally mine, but I didnt try to reconnect.
But the game says its intended for ages 10-14????
Thats awfully narrow...

Hey wadda ya know. I got away with "Moonliner".
We need a "sercet code" for Lot'ers.
If suspect some one is a LOT'er say "The Cricket Chirps at Midnight" and the reply should be "Tink flies the wire nightly". :D

OK. This is what I've done. It's not really much different than what I would do at DL. I walked in, I walked up MS and looked in the Emporium. I went to the castle and sat next to the water but couldn't find my swans. I went to the music game but got bored. I don't have a camera or pins yet so I can't do much. I played with fireworks and got the absolutely lowest score. Now I am walking around FL.
I got transported to Small World Imports twice and each time I chose to use the Exit tab to get out and was given an error message. I then had to re-register.
So, I could just get in my car, drive for 20 mins and experience the same thing with less frustration.
Am I missing something here? ;)

Yeah, those used to happen MUCH more frequently back during the alpha builds. Of course back then, you could move other people's furniture. Plus, you could barely say anything - the dictionary barely had any words in it. A couple of us banded together to get the phrase, "Avast you scurvy scum!" approved, but I digress...
Eventually there *should* be a process where players can submit bug reports, but AFAIK, the ones available are only for internal testing. I'll keep yall posted!

I think I have a solution to the room issue.
I've setup a sock-puppet to host a Lounge. As those who have played know, your person has to be present in the room or it is automatically closed.
So come hang out at the Thunder Lounge and don't mind the hostess macro pacing at the back of the room :)

My pleasure. It was quite the fire sale. I hope you enjoy the game.
I know it's only a beta but I just don't have the interest to continue. After about two hours of exploring all that's really left is interacting with the other guests and the developers have done everything they can think of to kill off interaction. With the rooms that go poof the second the owner leaves to the silly vocabulary limits it's just not a fun site to hang. Today I noticed that they have banned such naughty words as: To, Too, Won, and apparently ALL punctuation. Seesch.
I let my nine year old play for a bit and even she was soon both board and frustrated with the language thing. I expect this will be a very safe environment due mainly to the fact that soon no one will be playing it.

Well just to update you on your fire sale effects....
My two older kids have fully furnished rooms. I took the jungle cruise teleporters and now have instant access into my daughter's room (not that I didn't before). She thinks that is cool right now, I'm sure she'll hate it later. My son, the sweetie, tried to give me stuff in exchange and was so excited when I told him "no just take this free of trade". He did a little happy dance for me.
Then.......I heard nothing from the kids for about 2 hours as they decorated theirs rooms and played games. They were quite unhappy with me when I told them their computer time had been all used up and then some. (Bummer, I enjoyed the quiet...the two younger kids were sleeping at the time.)
Thanks again! :snap: :snap:

I've located all the Mickeys, decorated several rooms*, and am now quite bored with it all. I'll check back to see what they do with Tomorrowland (anyone else find it ironic that it doesn't have anything but Star Traders in it?) and Frontierland. I still think it's a great concept, but they'll have to jazz it up and free up the verbiage if they want to make a go of it.

Because Kevy is my hero, I decided not to start a new thread, and merely ask my question here. He should be thrilled.
So.. anyone still playing?
It seems there is a Stich hat, available ONLY when you book a trip through Disneyland Travel..
Now.. let's consider, San Diego to Anaheim
I will more than likely never use Disneyland Travel.
Anyone know if its available any other way?

Humm I don't really play, but I have recently booked a trip with Disneyland travel (or AAA anyway) I don't remember any mention of virtual swag. I'll check into it for you and pass along a code if I get one..

I do have a trip booked through WDT- it's already paid for, so if I can get ya the hat, just tell me what to do!

I have not played in ages but I have credits and furniture. If some can tell me how to have a fire sale as Moonliner did, you're welcome to my stuff.

Well, if the nice travel person gives you the codes, then you'll be able to give them to me!
<Bats eyelashes. >
And if they dont, well, I wont throw a fit.

I'll call WDT and tell them my kid, who plays VMK, wanted to know about it.:D
I just called, and they said it had to be booked online- we booked ours over the phone, so no go. That doesn't seem right- what the heck is the diff? Same company, isn't it? Might have to ask our resident Mickey specialist about that.....

Do many people play VMK anymore? I tried it out when it first opened, and was unimpressed. I guess I had high expectations for it, and all it seemed to be was a chat room that was so strictly censored that I couldn't even talk at all.

I tried and failed. While I did book online I went with AAA rather than Disney travel. Apparently the code is included on a card that they send out with your ticket package. So they could not/would not give me one. :(

The gal at WDT told me the VMK codes were only for people who booked online, but when we get our package I'll check and see if there are any codes. She didn't sound like she knew what she was talking about, anyway.
