I've just been invited to a pre-wedding celebration for a good friend of mine and her fiance. It's in the form of a cocktail party for a few close friends. I'm guessing it's replacing the more traditional shower idea. Anyway, I'm looking for idea for a gift. They're in their late 20s, have been living together for a while and are pretty cool people. Any ideas for a swanky gift would be much appreciated:)

Is the couple registered anywhere? Not sure if you folks do that down under. If you do, I strongly recommend buying something off of their registry. A pair of wine glasses, champagne flutes or water goblets is always nice.

Hey...thanks for reminding me! I've been invited to a baby shower on Saturday and I haven't bought the gift yet. http://www.loungeoftomorrow.com/LoT/images/smilies/roll.gif

How about a picnic martini set or a portable bar (http://www.seattletraders.com/picnicbaskets/specialty_baskets.html)? I always wanted one of these.

Ballgags and Handcuffs (especially the really cool suede lined ones)

It's in the form of a cocktail party for a few close friends.Well, since this isn't a bridal shower, this totally depends on your relationship with the couple....are you closer with the girl or the guy or both equally? Definitely check their registry (if they are registered) and see if they registered for anything pretty and non-utilitarian.

Lingerie is a great pre-wedding gift (you could get matching boxers too) but that totally depends on your relationship to the couple, and if they're cool enough to not get horribly embarrassed by opening the gift. :) Or you could follow CoasterMatt's advice.... ;)

But make sure that you don't get the cheap-y kind of handcuffs because the metal bends too easily and can jam the lock.

Not that I would know or anything.

Personally, I was going to recommed a cool martini set, although the picnic one is cool, too. I've always wanted one of those fancy picnic baskets with all the spots for china, silver, and crystal.
