We saw ASIMO at Innoventions last Sunday. Awesome. I've seen tons of video and such, but seeing it in person was truly amazing.

I'm sure there are some people who see it and go eh, no big deal, but if you dig robotics at all, you understand just how incredible a breakthrough it is. Walking isn't easy, nevermind turning or following or climbing stairs, or moving so quickly and fluidly, and doing all of it in something like 120 pounds is unbelievable.

It's kind of a bummer that the whole show is preprogrammed. They talk about his intelligence capabilities but don't give a live demonstration. Too much room for error, I guess. I just tuned out the stupid storyline and watched it move.

Here are some movies from Honda's site. (http://world.honda.com/HDTV/ASIMO/) At Innoventions you get the candy coated show, unlike these films. I wish we could have seen him run in person, but he does lots of other things.

This is worth taking the time to get into Innoventions and secure a seat. Make sure to ask the CM outside of ASIMO is in today - The first show was at 11am, and I've hard the last show is at 7pm.

Merry, we couldn't stop imitating Cartman all day...:D Hence the title of the thread, of course.

He's 4 feet tall and really creepy. Awesome and creepy.

I was a little dissappointed that the whole show was programmed, but his movements were really cool.

The first time I heard about it was on the MC board. So I checked out some pics there and its just as TheatreT said CREEPY but sorta cool too. It's just tough for me to justify any reason to go into Innovations. It's a little better now but uggg STILL bad.

If you like tech at all, it's worth it. :)

I know that ASIMO was built small because one of its purposes is to be a helper 'bot... but how will it take over the world?

By doing a lot of shin-kicking.

What really surprised me is his light weight. I think 115lbs was the figure. Kind of comforting, really. I mean, if and when his programming gets corrupted by a virus or some accident involving a blender and he starts to take over the world...at least I could kick his ass.

It would be fun to push him over and see what he tries to do in order to get up again.

There is a new ad movie out from Honda for the newest "prototype" Asimo that runs. here is the link. Scroll down past the ad for I-Pod and you will see the link for the movie and below those links are links to 2 new posters. The movie screen takes awhile to load so be patient. You will get a blank white screen for a few seconds then the intro will load then click on the animated click here and the movie will load, which takes more time. But it is a cute ad and worth the wait.

Plus he can just kill you in your sleep. Since, of course, robots don't need to sleep. That's the part I don't like.

And say you go to turn him off at night. What if he just pretends to be off and causes havok while you're sleeping.
It's going to happen. I know it.

Heehee! I have to admit, I kept imagining cute little ASIMO weilding futuristic laser weaponry. The more they talk about how these robots will help people, the more I giggle. I kept cycling through Terminator-Robocop-iRobot-Matrix-Itchy & Scratchy Land, and back again.

Even with the giggles, I really do trust robots and have no fear of them. Sci-Fi has given them a bad rep. When I see perfect mimicry of human movements, I'm not creeped out, I'm in awe of the amount of work the engineers put into it. I'm also prone to grin, shake my head, and say "Wow".

My Grandfather's age brought us Transportation/Automation
My Dad's age brought us TV and Electronics
My age brought us Computers and the Internet

Next up for you younglings, Robots.

Let me get my order in early so you can get to work.

1. Soapy: Soapy will be able to roam my house to locate any dirty dishes. He will then bring them back to the kitchen, wash them and put them away.

2. Tidy: Same thing with cloths. The tricky part will be getting him to match the socks. Come to think if it, this one better be a 'she' or the cloths will not get sorted by color, delicacy, thread count, and whatever other mysterious methods you fem's use.

3. Rover: Rover will keep an inventory of the house. Lost your keys or a party invitation that came weeks ago? Rover will know where it is an bring it to you. He will go from room to room (when they are not in use) and memorize every object so that he can find it for you later.

That's all for right now, so get cracking.

Saw it today. It was pretty cool. Storyline sucked, but I think they tried to go for a CoP look. Videophone thing was pretty corny too. Oh, and the ASIMO voice was sorta creepy. Other than that, it was fricken awesome, even if it was preprogrammed.

The video phone was corny, but I laughed at the end of the video phone call with the grandparents.
