Looking on GameSpot today, I ran over this. (http://www.gamespot.com/news/2005/07/01/news_6128575.html)

"The game is set after the Rapture has taken the faithful up to heaven. Satan's forces are slowly taking over the world, slowly bending countries to their will. As part of the rebel Tribulation Forces, gamers will fight in apocalyptic battles in New York City."

Are we serious?

Oh my. A RTS on a post apocalyptic world. Now THAT's never been done before.

Left Behind Games was established in 2001, and it aims to bring morally just and family-friendly games to the masses.

So only when violence is in the name of religion or apocalyptic battles it's considered family friendly?

I don't get it, after rapture there shouldn't be any Christian gamers left to play - ideally they should only be able to watch their heathen friends play.

No no, it's all the previously unrepentant ones who repent after rapture who will play.

Can you do that? God seems kinda soft on his deadlines...

It's pretty much the premise of the Left Behind series, from what I understand. People who converted post "Rapture."

Cool, that means I can repent later, after I'm dead - should things turn out this way, that is...

Wasn't the whole purpose of the Rapture to be a sort of absolute deadline? A 'sorry, but you really missed the boat, no do-overs' sort of thing? Anyway, is there like lots of blood and stuff in this game? No decent, family sort of Apocolyptic game would be complete without the excruciatingly gory deaths of the heathen multitudes.

Oh, and I wonder what happens when you lose..... Do you go to hell? Mormon heaven? To work for the IRS?

As I understand it (and it's not really anything I've ever studied, or cared about, so I could be off) "Rapture" is the reward to "repentant" people, so they don't have to live in the last days of the earth, but it's not the final deadline.

I wonder if the developers will be creative with the weaponry. Afterall, how can a game developer based on a Christian premise/following disapppoint us with anything less than: Psalm Pslingshots? Genesis Grenades? Upgrades to New Testament weaponry?

That is nice to know. I always like to keep my options open and on the ready -- just in case.

I can easily see waking up one morning, turning on the radio and hearing that the Rapture had arrived. My first thought would be of the old gypsy fortune teller who had foretold of my death at the hands of giant zombie skeleton's from Hell. And to think I laughed at her. But then she also said I was going to get a promotion at work and that didn't happen.

So what would I do next? Probably, go back to sleep, cause the day ain't getting any better.

-- but then what?

I am going to assume Satan’s Army has all ready taken out the phone service, but if not, I’ll call some friends & family and I won’t even reverse the charges. I figure whatever goes down on earth in the next 24 hours will probably not be reflected on my monthly statement anyway. Next I would sign onto LoT to see if any of you were taken up. My guess would be no. And there would probably be a thread called, THE RAPTURE! and it would pose the question of the day, which, one by one, we would all answer – “Still here.” “I was not taken up.” “Nope.” "Still here, too." “The Starbucks in Portland is open!” "Toot!" Etc.

And then, still in me bathrobe and with Satan’s Army fast approaching, I'd boil some coffee, snag a lawn chair and make my way to the roof of my building.

Of course, I hope Good conquers Evil, but either way I am getting a front row seat.

Good to know that that procrastination skill will come in handy, if needed.

Why do I picture 30 of us standing in a post-apocalyptic Disneyland, somewhere backstage, having the time of our lives?

I just thought of some irony. I wonder how long it will take this game to hit BitTorrent after it's release?

Well, there's always the
Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch:

(Of course, it's a Roman Catholic weapon, so that probably means the other side will be using it).

Pretty much.

The bible tells us that those who believe in Jesus Christ will be "caught up" with Christ. (The greek word for "caught up" is Harpazo. Harpazo became the Latin word Raptus which is where we get our term "rapture".) It isn't specific as to whether it will happen before the period of tribulation (described in the book of revelation) or after so of course there's much debate on the matter.

Personally, I'm hoping for before. I don't think I want to be around during the Trib.

Ok, I need a nerdy smilie here. I love studying the bible. :D
