Hey, gang, LSPoorEeyorick here (via [Eliza or Tom], since LoT is
blocked at work!)
I just spoke with guest services, and I got several important
questions answered.
1)Black-out tickets for Annual Passholders will NOT BE AVAILABLE for
7/17. The word came down from TPTB to Guest Services today. D'oh!
They are going to make a mint on us.
2) The Timon lot will be open at midnight (so presumably it won't
be closing), and the ticket booth will be open at 1:30 AM. Guest
Services said that they have to vacate Disneyland before they can
begin the line-up into DCA.
3) There will be no free-roaming on line at DCA. If you leave the
line you will need someone to hold your place for you. There will
be nowhere to sit other than the ground.
4) For guests who have need of a wheelchair (or heck, whose legs
get tired after standing or sitting on the concrete for four hours)
the rentals will become available at DCA at 3AM.
All things are, as they said, subject to change without notice!

A *mint* almost seems like an understatment. I'll be sad to miss out on the fun, but I'll just console myself with Potter. There's no way I could afford the weekend, anyway.
So, Potter, Potter, Potter. And then I'll be the first to finish and will not have anyone to talk with about it! Heh.

Well, that royally sucks. Thanks Disneyland for letting us know 3 days ahead of time that if we want to attend, we will pay double what we were planning to. Walt would be proud.
We have no interest in upgrading our passes as they expire Sept. 4th. If we did so, the only difference would be that we would be able to go on Saturdays. Not worth $240. Hopefully, we will still be going but this really screws with our budget, which was slim to begin with.
Boo to Disneyland. :(

FYI, someone on MiceChat also called and got a different story (from Disney? Never). The person they talked to said they might be availalbe, and to get there early if you want any chance.

Just got off the phone with Guest Relations as well. I said that with all the websites and information, there has been conflicting information. He was really nice, and said that it's literally changing hourly for them as well. But he says, according to his lead/manager/TDA, that the truly deciding factor is how many people are there at opening. If it's not as packed as they expect it, then they will sell Blackout Day Tix. I called, because I don't have a pass now, and planned on using the 'cheat', and buying a SoCal pass. He said that they havn't even mentioned that to anyone. The BO day tix are the big issue, and proving that it really is 'subject to change without yadda...' :)

i have two "official" and "Updated" Q and A speils - that completely contradict each other... that is why i cannot offer any "final' word... it is a very tough position to be in. i have been told which one to speil, but, they both claim to be "official" and "updated".
if i do get a sense of the final word, i will let you know.

I suspect that in the end they will be selling black-out passes, that this is a ploy to keep some people away. The amout of AP holders that do not frequent message boards is a lot larger than the amount that do. If they were going to cancel the sale of black-out passes they would have publicized it earlier. To full on cancel the sale of them with no notice is asking for bad press.

I feel bad for the customer service people, such as ML. You guys get the worst of it. :( I can't believe they don't have hard facts at this late hour!

Here's my take on it... your pass is a contract. Part of that contract allows you to purchase block-out day tickets. Now, obviously entrance to Disneyland is not guaranteed, as the park may fill up, but it seems to me that as long as they are selling 1-day tickets, they must sell block-out tickets. Otherwise, what is their excuse? Oh no, we won't be selling block-out tickets because the park is too full, but if you want to pay double the park ISN'T too full? Can't happen. I mean, theoretically, it COULD, but it would be a PR DISASTER for them.

Yes, but again.... they'd have a VERY hard time selling 1-day tickets and NOT blockout passes. It would go badly for them.
I imagine that anyone showing up that day who was refused permission to purchase a blockout day ticket could ask for a manager, ask again for a blockout day pass, and when refused, ask if you could purchase a 1-day ticket. When they say yes, you ask them how it is that they could be too full to sell blockouts, but not too full to let you in for more money. I imagine, if you kept calm enough, you could get the manager to agree to sell you a blockout ticket.

Yes, you're probably right. As a matter of fact, if you are planning on trying to get a blockout ticket and they try this (i.e., no blockout tickets, but they are selling 1-day's), don't hesitate to mutter something about "bait and switch" under your breath.

It is quite possible that Disney admissions might skirt by on the not selling the block out day tickets on the excuse that July 17th is a "Special Event" day. They are working the Cast Member admission block out (no Main Gate passes and no Cast Member ID admissions allowed on the 17th, but we can use the Team Disney complimentary admission passes to get in) in order to limit the amount of Cast Members going to the park. As GD had mentioned, "Subject to change without notice" will be the mantra of that day.

CP: the hard facts that have created America? LOL:D make July 17 "be nice to a CM day" as they will be working under difficult circumstances all the while, trying to keep a smile on their faces.
BTD: i agree, to not give advance notice would be a schtoopid move, as Hans would say.
MG: you may represent me in court anytime!
GD: "subject to availability"... i say it 200 times a day;)
MM and MBC: I really hope you guys will find a way in... wish i could help - even CM MG passes are blocked, as H said, otherwise i would.
EH and P: At least you have a plan other than work

Well, whatever you do ... for those who are planning on going ... don't give up hope. Schmooze your way into buying that Blackout pass that, as illustrated above, you could claim -tactfully- is a deceptive business practice of bait and switch.
Remember - - despite any official policy, Disneyland Birthday is a Magical Day. Things can and will go YOUR way.
"Subject to change without notice"
and also "subject to availability" (per the AP section of the website, Terms and Conditions)
and "Restrictions apply. Subject to blockout dates. Annual Passports do not guarantee theme park admission, are nonrefundable, nontransferable ..."
while it does suck for those who may be blocked out, it is within their right ot do so. It was my understanding months back that only premium AP's or full price tickets would be honored on the birthday. I may have misconstrued something though.
We will know the answer monday
