I'm hoping Lindyhop, who's son is a parking/tram CM, sees this and can fill me in on what exactly happened. But CP and I witnessed mass bizzarness on Sunday leaving the park.

We left at about 12:30AM. We said goodnight to iSm and Zapppop (who were staying at the DLH) outside the tram loading area. While saying our goodbyes, I heard a cheer from the loading area...which was odd. We headed to get in line for the tram. The first thing I see is that there are two trams sitting side by side, and I watch as, apparantly, the last passenger hops over from the "inside" tram onto the other one. I thought that was a bit weird. Then, people start to fill the now empty tram that's in front of the load area, but just as the last few people were getting on, suddenly the CMs started telling them all to get off.

That's when I suddenly got a weird feeling. Despite the fact that my knees and feet had been very angry with me to that point, I suddenly felt better and got said, "You know, let's walk to the structure." So we started walking. As we were coming up to the back loading zone, where there was an empty tram loading a disabled guest, a couple people passed us and headed to board that tram. Then a couple more. And then, before we knew it, a near stampede was passing, many people going in front of the loading zone into the street in front of the tram, people pushing each other out of the way. NOT a good scene. We quickened our pace and got the heck out of there.

So we're now headed down the walkway behind DTD. As we get to the gap in the buildings, between Hagen Daz and Wetzel's, two police officers come around the corner. They were looking around, asking, "Is there something going on?" I just point behind me and say, "Trams." They take off in that direction. As they do, an empty tram was coming from the loading area, making a U-turn to head back in. Either the driver or the spieler got on the speaker and said (I presume to the cops), "It's all my fault, trust me."

It was about then, after laughing, that I made the quip to CP, "Watch, the tram comes by and there's a guard standing at the back of each section with an AK." Well, we walk out and are along Disney Way (or whatever West turns into) paralleling the tram route, and a tram does pass. The first thing we notice is that whoever was in the front car was VERY loud. We heard them coming, when they passed, and even when the tram was almost past us, we could hear them screaming. No idea what they were saying. But then, we saw the two cops standing at the back of the tram with the spieler, thus confirming my armed guard premonition!

So finally we get to the parking lot. We're walking across Pinnochio towards the structure, next to the fence that separates the tram route/loading area from Pinnochio. A tram approaches to make the turn around the big tree and I hear, over the speaker again, "You want to know what happened?" as the spieler talked to the driver, or vice versa. I nodded my head to no one in particular...but just as he began to tell the story, another tram came up behind them and drowned him out!!

That's all I saw, other than a cluster of DL security cars and CMs around the crosswalk, but I couldn't tell if they were dealing with the insanse situation or just helping a lady find her car. We were parked on Daisy in the back, so we just walked over to a flight of stairs, never went into the parking esplenade to see what was going on.

So, does anyone know the full story?

This calls for rampant speculation!

I wonder if they started doing tram spiels in Ebonics?

I think that if you look closely at the facts of the case:

* about 12:30AM outside the tram loading area.

* heard a cheer from the loading area

* two trams sitting side by side

* passenger hops over from the "inside" tram onto the other one

* CMs started telling them all to get off.

* an empty tram was coming from the loading area

* the front car was VERY loud

It's fairly easy to conclude the root cause of the problem. Obviously a feral moose was loose in the parking lot. It's the very loud noise that gives it away.

Someone mentioned on Micechat somewhere about an incident that occured with two women getting into a fight on the trams over a seat. If I recall correctly, everyone was ordered off of the tram. Perhaps this is what happened?

I wish I could recall which thread i saw it in.

Then again, let's not rule out the moose just yet. :D

I found that. That may be it, but the description doesn't quite match up with what I saw, but it may be just because he was focusing on his deal which had to do with not wanting to go to the other loading area because his father couldn't walk it or something.

Kevy Baby, Gus Gus, Goin2Dland, Borneo and myself were there... (though it was then that Kevy Baby and Gus Gus realized that they had left prized possesions inside Disneyland locker...so they had to head back to the Main Gate)

the first tram, full of people became disabled while there were hundreds of people waiting to load the next and more walking up to the scene.

a second tram pulled up along side the disabled tram and the guests were instructed to exit from the drivers side and board the new tram...
meanwhile, the waiting guests begin filling the now empty disabled tram (oops) - they were instructed not to board, but did anyway, and CMs had to "make them" disembark. the CM that blamed himself for the problem was unaware that the tram was disabled and had said it was ok to board - when in fact, it wasn't. Tired Guests were confused and frustrated.

the "cheer" you heard was the delight of guests as the second tram began to return them to the parking structure. meanwhile, a third tram pulled up behind the disabled tram and a mass exudus began rushing that tram - while Borneo and I managed to find a seat, Goin2Dland was left behind, despite my effort of getting 6 tiny japanese guests to make room for the Captain. sorry Jimbo.

after Borneo and I got to the parking Structure tram area, and were saying our goodbyes, the next tram was pulling up with two uniformed APD officers on the back. everything was under control at that point.

perhaps for the 51st birthday we can "take over a tram":snap: :D

LOL, indeed. as a matter of fact, following that incident i mentioned to Borneo, i recalled the old (pre-1974) trams with benches that faced OUT so guests were back to back facing either the drivers left or right. the color scheme was blue and yellow and capacity was no more than 100 guests at a time!

and the Hotel tram was even shorter:

ps...for those that don't remember this... this is image is within 50 feet of the Hotel Monorail Station... the exact same place that the DTD Station is now. the Station NEVER moved. meaning, this is what that area of DTD used to look like:

We walked to the structure, decided to take the stairs, and noticed this (http://albums.photo.epson.com/j/ViewPhoto?u=4229529&a=31832660&p=72317680) little beauty.

We couldn't resist. (http://albums.photo.epson.com/j/ViewPhoto?u=4229529&a=31832660&p=72317681&f=0)

Does this count as visiting the original parking lot? (http://albums.photo.epson.com/j/ViewPhoto?u=4229529&a=31832660&p=72317682&f=0)

They use those old beauties to transport CMs around backstage. They are sooo noisey!

Well, I'm no help, am I? I've been by the pool, reading and sweating. The temperature in Palm Springs dropped (yes, dropped) to 110 but now it's humid.

Anyway, the boy worked a daytime shift on the east side on the 17th so I don't know if he knew anything about the, uh, incident.

BTW, he drives the old trams backstage quite a bit. His complaint is that they bounce around so much they're really uncomfortable, everything hurts after one of those shifts. My trivia for the day: The clearance on the route backstage can be really narrow and sometimes when the Monorail is down it's because someone driving backstage ran into one of the supports and they have to check it out before they let the Monorail run again.

If you were sitting in it by Indy (Eyeore lot), or the M& F Tram que by WOD, or at the DL hotel, then yes. Otherwise, unfortunately, you were visiting the original strawberry field.

I miss the free-for-all running to catch a tram around the lot.

I kept saying that those that queued in DCA were the ones that completed the "parking lot quest", since they lined up in the ex-parking lot and then went straight into Disneyland.

I would agree with you if one rode on a blue/yellow tram and it was from a original character lot, not one renamed after a Lion King character.

Otherwise, the original tram quest may be one of those wishful thinking, but not able to revisit things.
