Oh, it's been so long since I've allowed myself to get sucked into a game, but I've found a good one. Nay, an awesome one.

Burnout 3: Takedown for XBox

I first played it when CP's brother came to stay with us for a few days and I got hooked, so I ordered it immediately after he left. The three of us had spent over 4 hours playing in one night, and got through nearly the entire "crash" portion of the game. And yet, I knew I could play for hours on end longer.

It's my favorite type of game in that it's got several different, and distinct, game modes. Like I said, that first night we exclusively played the crash mode, arguably the most fun mode. Basically, you drive as fast as you can into a busy intersection, start an accident, and attempt to do the most ammount of damage possible. Good old fashioned, straight forward car smashing action. And, because it's fun, once you smash your car, you get to slow time down and "steer" your wrecked car to aim for bonuses or other cars. Completely unrealistic, but it makes for some spectacular smashing!

So now that I own the game, I've started focusing on the race modes. Holy crap, they're awesome! To get speed and bonuses, you have to exhibit risky driving behavior (driving on the wrong side of the street, skidding around corners at full speed, narrowly avoiding accidents). You're encouraged and required to take out your opponents, with bonuses for doing it in specific areas. And within the race mode, there are several different race types. There's a standard race, where you go a few laps dodging traffic and trying to beat your opponents to the line. There's an elimination race, where each lap, the last place car is eliminated (no hanging at the back of the pack for a last-lap move). There's one where you just need to take out as many opponents as possible in a set ammount of time. And there are several more. Each challenging in its own way.

Since I received it, I've already played another 6 hours or so and haven't even returned to the crash mode! And there are multiplayer options too that I haven't even explored! Oh yeah, I'm happy with this one.

So what are you playing?

My daughter got me hooked on "Spoonge Bob Squarepants - The Battle for Bikini Bottom". Great. There were some portions she couldn't figure out, so I helped her, and now I can't wait to acquire my next golden spatula.

Great use of my time. :(

We've been plaing Final Fantasy X-2, which, while certainly not the best FF by any means, is fairly amusing. To get the good ending you have to do everything exactly right, which is pretty tedious. After 60+ hours over the past six months of playing with six different walkthroughs, we get to a point in the game (93%) where if you've done everything right you get a special scene. We didn't get it. I looked back and realized that in the beginning of the game we hadn't slept in the cabin because it did it automatically, which apparently doesn't count. I have no motivation to finish the game, and no way in hell am I playing again.

Oh well, I have a few RPG's that I haven't started yet, so in a month or so we'll probably start another.

Yep. I was actually just getting ready to boot it up and build a new waterfall in my park. :)

I didn't really get into the game much until the expansion pack came out. I wanted waterfalls and tunnels. Now I have both and lasers too! :) I'm pathetically addicted.

Yep, I missed the tunnels badly in RCT3.

I also like the way you can place park entrances in the middle of parks instead of just at the sides. I don't remember being able to do that in 2.

Still sucked into World of Warcraft

I remember when I was Warcraft happy! My best friend and her husband networked 3 computers, made partitions, and we were holed up for 6 hours playing Warcraft against one another. The only time we got up was to go to the bathroom and get the door for the pizza delivery guy!

At that time, I had a horribly slow computer, so my warcraft experience at home was bad, yet I played anyway.

World of Warcraft is a different animal than Warcraft/Wafcraft II. But both very addicting.

I've had my share of addictions. They were, in order: Warcraft II, MUDding, Diablo, Subspace, Carmageddon, Acrophobia, Final Fantasy VII, Sims, Roller Coaster Tycoon.

And that's just since college. I won't even get into how many times I completed quest 2 of the original Zelda.

Right now I am totally into Megaman. My brother borrowed the X-Box version from a friend. It has all the Megaman games. And they are haaaarrd!! At least, harder than I remember it being when I was a kid.

Zelda

Ah, the late '80s, spent wired out and pasty with very sore thumbs.

Good times ;)

We've also been playing Burnout 3 for a few weeks. It is a blast and the kid and I have fun seeing who can cause the most damage! The racing modes can be a challenge. Lately though it's just been the crashing fun!

My son says there is a new Zelda coming out so he's trying to save his money to get it. I haven't seen any info on it yet but he has the Nintendo magazine and I'm sure that's where he heard about it.
