....but I got to see an onride video of it. There was a link to it on another site.
I am truly speechless. Thank the good lord I was spared from it in person. How hideous. I'm sure some posters here had the opportunity to ride it. My condolences.

I always wondered how bad it was. I'm up for a little self abuse. Hit me.

Scrooge....I must warn you. I deliberately did not post the link for fear of what it might do to some unsuspecting link-clicker.
Please remember....you asked me for it, and I offer it up reluctantly.

On the right hand side, it's the 8th one down.
You've been warned, and it isn't my fault.

The Disney version of The Ring.
The Disney version of The Ring.
That's why I got a phone call shortly after getting off the ride and all the voice said was 7 days. Fortunately I was naive at the time, and told some people "its right over there" when they asked where it was, or maybe I saved myself (I never did see those people again  ).
I will never forget my experience on the Super Star Limo ride. It was literally the last straw for me and DCA (and I came with lots of straws!) Since I was working as a travel agent at the time the whole day was free (and it was a soft opening, too, so I was very "up") As I recall, at the tail end of the SSL ride they take your photo and display it on a large movie screen as you exit (regrettably, not for purchase) but what we saw made us smile -- four people with the exact same look of complete & utter disbelief!
Sigh -- What a miserable time that was at DCA. I remember giving up half way through the day and refusing to go on any more rides. My ex-wife tried to put on a brave face but she joined me on the bench an hour later. It took me four years to completely wash away the disgust I felt for Disney.
I have to admit some residue still exists ... but its cool. I gots a whole bunch of new straws, too.

While I have been a defender of DCA (though admittedly parts of it suck), I must admit if I were to have ridden SSL after DCA opened, I would have been on the DCA sucks bandwagon with everyone else.
My biggest question is who the hell designed and/or approved that?

I didn't dislike DCA as much when I saw it again last month, but still I didn't stay very long.

The amazing thing to consider about DCA and Superstar Limo is the unbelievable amount of time, money, and manpower spent in design/development/execution. Even though it may seem contrary, it takes just as much effort to launch a bad attraction as it does to launch a good one. Not talent...effort. To the last regime, the content of the SSL was indistinguishable from say, Mr. Toad, only, in their corporate minds, edgier, and based on contemporary brands and icons.
Nothing, but nothing could have prevented it once the green light was given. If they just emptied the building, killed the lights, and let you drive in the dark while Georgia played over the sound system, they could have had "Ray: The Ride" and it would have been better.
If the car sat motionless in an empty room facing a Superman outfit and played an audio loop of "I will walk again" and called it "Reeve: the Ride", it would have been better.
If the ride incorporated Buzz Lightyear-esque gameplay and let you fire hamburgers into Terri Schiavo's open mouth, it would have been better.
Think of the possibilities...
But, no. They ran with Joan Rivers, Cher, and TV funnyman Drew Carey.

I don't remember who I heard this from, but wasn't the Superstar Limo Ride the first to be outsourced (i.e., non-Imagineer), perhaps in terms of the concept if not the actual building of the attraction?
I remember our priceless expression on that "ride photo"... it was a mix of squinting-from-blinding-flash, with a good heap of "WTF" and "huh" written all over it.
I heard from an Imagineer that the ride program got erased "accidentally" when they did some vehicular tests about a year ago.
RIP, Joan Rivers (the caricature that is) and amen to that.

I rode that thing twice, and saw the video before...yet in reading this thread, I almost feel as if I want to watch it again....the horror draws me back in....
They should post that on the Stile Project or Something Awful or one of those sites.

Anyway, that ugly video has a silver lining. I noticed they had a video of Tokyo Disneyland on that site, so I downloaded it, and it's great! A fun taste of both TDL and TDS. I know it'll be years before I venture there (if ever) and it's nice to have a quick hit like this.

But that would be at a Universal Studios park :p

While completely off topic, Scrooge quotes Syndrome as saying "You caught me monologuing!". I thought Syndrome said "You got me monologuing!", as in Mr. Incredible had tricked him into going into a long speech so as to make him distracted. He made Syndrome do it rather than simply catching him doing it.
I changes the meaning somewhat, and I am curious as to what the actual quote is.

Looking on the bright side... If Superstar Limo had remained open, we probably would not be getting the new ride, "Monsters, Inc.: Mike and Sully to the Rescue." Good-bye L.A., hello Monstropolis! :)

Yeah, SSL was a major WTF experience for me. Heather and I were at DCA during the early days, and we were determined to experience all the park had to offer. What a lame-o attraction.
Last week, I was engaged in a couple of off-board conversations (can you believe it?) about quantifying 'Disney Magic' - and rating various experiences on a DM percentage scale. I don't want to derail this thread with all the details, but needless to say everyone I talked with agreed that SSL had less than 5% DM (I put it at 0).

By my calculations (which are long and complex and confuse most people so I'll spare you the technical details), SSL has a negative DM quotient. It actually sucks Disney Magic right out of you. I've yet to come up with an exact figure but it hovers around the -10 to -20% mark, meaning that it takes about 10 to 20 percent of your accrued daily DM out of your system.
This kind of "sucking", to use the vernacular, can be quite a shock.

Thanks for the visual too KevyBaby.
SSL was so bad that when I went on it all I could say was "O god this is so bad" constantly. The final photo op was me staring at the camera and saying "Are you guys kidding me?" SSL was awful, tasteless, meaningless and beyond saving. It needed to be burned immediately to the ground and the ground consecrated afterwards. I'd put that ride right up there with any dark ride at the Orange County Fair. Actually those are better.

Don't do it NA!! It isn't worth it, for your own sanity don't do it!
It was one of the first rides we experienced at DCA, afterward we looked at each other and were scared to ride anything else! The boy thought he liked it, but he was only 3 or so at the time. We took him back to Muppets and he forgot all about it! Unfortunately my husband and I couldn't forget!
