This puppy plays 33s, 45s, and 78s without using a needle. Instead, the grooves are read by a laser which then generates the sound. It's frelling expensive, but a really cool idea. (IMO)

The Laser Turntable is a cool invention. However, the starting list price is $15,000! Yikes! If some of your vinyl records are also available as CDs, it would be much cheaper to re-purchase the albums as CDs or download them from iTunes.

Model: LT-1LRC - Plays LP and 45 rpm - $15,000

Model: LT-1XRC - Plays LP, 45 rpm and 78 rpm - $17,000

Model: LT-2XRC - Plays LP, 45 rpm and 78 rpm - Also plays any size, including 7", 8", 9", 10", 11" and 12" - $19,000

Here's one gripe I have with the LoT... you guys won't know until the 28th that it's my birthday. If there was only some way you could find out early so you could order me a LT-2XRC (I have a huge singles collection)...

Good luck, Jesse...you may want to add this (http://www.cdandlp.com/item/2/0-0-0-1-0/35154821_VOLKSWAGEN_VW_VINYL_KILLER_PLAYER_coolest _portable_record_player.html) to your wish list...juuuuust in case. ;)

Edit: Wait, don't want to cheat you out of any options (http://www.htfr.com/more-info/?catno=MR70235#image)

How about you buy ME one for my BD and I'll let you use it? :p

And, if that's the only gripe you have about LoT, I've got to start working harder. ;)

That is a pretty cool idea. I'm sure they will come down in price eventually. (thinks back to the $1400 betamax video recorder that my dad purchased.)

I'm sure this is boosting the sale of vinyl all over the world

Actually, my audiophile sister nearly purchased a laser turntable last year - but it does have a few drawbacks - mainly, the vinyl has to be black; no colored vinyl or picture disc playback.

No Picture Disks? No Colored Vinyl? - This technology is just not mature enough yet to take off.

And what of the flexi discs I used to get from the back of cereal boxes? Will it play my Super Sugar Crisp Trio record?

FLEXI DISCS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I still have a few of those - including the Adam and the Ants version of YMCA (ANTS) from Flexipop Magazine.

It probably wouldn't play those, either...

It's sad to realize that a hand-me-down close and play might be a superior technology than something with lasers.
