For My Beloved Mineral Loving Glamourinas, :)
Do you remember my I.D. Bare Escentuals Bare Minerals praise thread of make-uppy love? Well hold on to your Kabuki Brushes! I give you..part deux! :D
We were in the middle of merry mineral cosmetic glee when we decided to relocate to somewhere far swankier! ;) I decided to start a new thread because so many of you were deciding on purchasing the Starter Kit, had already purchased it or previously owned it!
I still haven't watched my DVD that came with my Starter Kit yet, but Girlies, I am LOVIN' my minerals! :) They are just too good to be true! They go on like silk, cover like a creme, and feel just like air! They are a dream come true for my skin! They are so light that there is never a line around your jawline, and it never feels like your'e wearing the dreaded foundation "mask". It's the no make-up make-up- which is exactly what I wanted and didn't think existed! I always go bare faced, (except for Smith's Rosebud Salve on my lips. I'm a gloss & balm junkie!) and I wanted something very natural for everyday wear. To perk up my lifeless winter complexion!
Today, I purchased two of the 3 blush clolors they offer. The colors are just so gorgeous! They are sheer, yet pop with color when you apply them to the apples of your cheeks. I purchased Beauty (a velvet rose pink) & Thistle (a warm chocolate ). I also love using Warmth as a blush too, which is actually the Bronzer that came with the Starter Kit! It gives you such a healthy glow, which I love since I give up tanning in the wintertime.
I'm just so excited over this stuff! I know Alisa purchased her minerals!
Have you? :) :D

Funny... the gal at my Sephora said that when they get thistle, it sells right out.
I havent even tried my warmth, but then again, I dont need it. I have a good case of roseacea on my cheeks, and that keeps them pretty red.
I've watched my video, I've tested with my brushes...
my opinion? I are horrible at makeup application.
I cant tell when I have enough, I cant seem to cover the red, but when it is on, I do like the feel.
My only actual complaint about the product itself, is that thesalesclerk didnt warn me how easlily it would rub off.
I find myself leaving makeup on my sleeves, the shoulder of someone who insisted on hugging me... Is there a way I can avoid this?
Has anyone tried their eyeliner, or lip colors? I just kept right on using my Clinque for those.
My skin is pleased that I am not scrubbing off foundation everyday now. I wish I could say that the boards talked me into my purchase, but I was reffered by someone else.

Yay...the Bare Escentuals thread, Part Deux! Oh Ally, you sound like you've got the application mastered. I definitely need to sit down with my collection and practice, practice, practice!
I've acquired a few more things online:
The instructional DVD from eBay - thanks to Alisa's suggestion.
Items from Face, etc:
Body Minerals Kit (Kabuki brush and bag)
Multi-tasking Minerals - Warm radiance
Lipstick Lovers Autumn Palette (To answer Ponine's question about the lipcolors; this is a case with an assortment of shades along with a brush.
When I looked at it I didn't think I would like it. But the color applied to my lips very easily with the brush. It feels soft and moisturizing. It looks lighter and natural, not chalky and heavy.)
Loose blush - Beauty (Same shade as Ally!)
Makeup Planner Book
Clear Radiance
Tapered (angled) Blush Brush
I made an investment in this stuff because I figure at the age of 42 it's time for me to finally learn how to use some makeup.
Any advice and suggestions would be welcome and much appreciated! :)
Over at http://www.sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P61009 you can see all the shades they carry in the loose blush. There are eight different shades, but every shade is sold out!
Check out this link at www.faceetc.com (http://www.faceetc.com/):
http://www.faceetc.com/products/?mode=allwords&que=on&search=*Bare+Escentuals-Loose+Blush*
They have five shades of loose blush in stock including Thistle.

I'm just so excited over this stuff! I know Alisa purchased her minerals!
You know I did!!!! But, I need the starter kit!!! I can't find it anywhere in my color. They were sold out at the Sephora store and sephora.com. I may have to try QVC or the HSN, I forget which one sells it.
I am in love with Bare Minerals!! There is no mask, just nice perfect even coverage!! i need more...must have more!!!!! :p

ME TOO! I am crazy in love obsessed with Bare Minerals!! :) It's like the skin I've dreamt of having my entire life is inside of those little jars! It's absolutely magical!
I've been away for a few days & totally underpacked! :( I carry my Minerals with me in my cosmetic bag, thankfully! I was in flourescent light (Ally skin enemy number one :( ) and applied my Minerals. Presto! I had FLOURESCENT FRIENDLY SKIN!! It's just so amazing!
More reasons to love Minerals: I carry my trusty DuWop Venom Lipgloss in Firethorn with me, but needed something a little more deeper on my lips. I took my jar of Thistle blush and dabbed a little of the Minerals on my lips, topping it with Mor Lip Nectar in Sorbet (I was going to use Smith's Rosebud Lipbalm but wanted a little more shine). Abracadabra- a brand new new lipgloss shade!
I could babble all day about this stuff. I'm truly in love!
Merry Prankster~ I had no idea there were more blush colors! Must..purchase..more.. :D Thank you!
Ponine~ I am so in agreement with you! Isn't it the best thing not to be able to scrub foundation off every day? My skin thanks me, too! I never thought I'd know that feeling! :)
Thank God for Bare Minerals! :)

I haven't had time to try Bare Minerals yet. Does anyone know if it covers well for those of us with rosacea? My cheeks are horrible - scaly and red. My current foundation covers them, but it's just so thick, which makes them even more scaly and red.

OKay.. here I am to answer that. I am not a walking commercial, I am not in love... HOWEVER...
it works.
Being a skeptic, I had the gal in Sephora do my face for me. The gal pal with me thought it was lovely.
It does cover my red cheeks... but its not as.... concealing as liquid concealer. What wierd is that it does cover the red as long as I dont touch it. Which I am always doing.
I am so concious of my red cheeks... and I hate them. Let me ask my cube neighbor.. yeah, she says I dont have red cheeks today. (rofl)
Anyway.. yes, it covers the red. You have to learn how to not put too much on, but otherwise... it works. I am blending two colors to get the right color too.

I wish I could go without makeup at some point, but whenever I do, people always say, "Oh no! Your cheeks are all sunburned! Here's some sunscreen!" It is SO blasted annoying.

Makeup So Pure You Can Sleep In It!
Since 1976, Bare Escentuals has been creating innovative natural formulas using only pure minerals from the earth and high percentages of botanical essences. i.d. by Bare Escentuals is their color cosmetics line known for their revolutionary bareMinerals. bareMinerals are 100% pure micronized minerals that are free of chemicals such as talc, oil, preservatives, fragrance, dyes, or other potential skin irritants, and infused with a protective SPF 15. Recommended by dermatologists and other skincare professionals, bareMinerals are ideal for covering a range of skin conditions, including acne, scars, Rosacea, sensitive, and problem prone skin.
Disneyphile & Ponine~ I just read a wonderful article in February's issue of Lucky Magazine all about skincare! The article covered every skin condition that plagues us ladies and the best dermatologist-recommended solutions. Everything from over-the-counter to in-house visits! There was a paragraph on Rosacea that offered lots of helpful solutions! I'm away from home this week, but when I return I'll print the article out for you! :) It's very helpful! Believe me, I was reading all about break-outs (will they ever stop? I'm not a teenager anymore! :( )

Okay, I got my starter kit on Thursday, and I really love it!! What a screaming deal it is--the brushes alone are amazing!! I got the beige/medium beige kit with warmth. The warmth is almost too warm at this point, but will be great for the spring/summer months.
I haven't watched the DVD yet...maybe I'll do that now while Chloe girl is napping. But I keep playing, mixing, and looking at myself in every mirror I pass! I've had such bad skin the last two years that this stuff is a dream come true!!
I have two new Cargo blushes that I love....when I'm in a place (Sephora?) where I can try the I.D. colors, I'll try them. But my Cargo blushes look awesome over the bare minerals foundation.
The best part of it though, is that it really stays ON. I found with my Lancome and Smashbox foundation, that I was re-applying all day.
And it's practically waterproof. I was in the shower one day and caught a glance at myself in the mirror and my face was still funny made up--the water was just rolling over the foundation! Weird!
Anyway, I loooove it!! :)
Oh! And I plan to order the problem skin kit, ASAP!

I'm so glad you ladies are loving your minerals! I've been using them for a few months now & I'm hoplessly addicted. It's the only make-up I'll let touch my face! :)
Claire~ the Blushes & All Over Colors are beautiful and so rich in color! High pigmentation is such a big deal for me! Goobery, huh? I think that the colors that I use would look lovely on you! I use Thistle & Beauty in the blushes, and Warmth, Glee, and Clear Radiance in the All Over Color.
Clear Radiance is absolutly amazing! It gives you such a dewy, fresh faced glow! I make it part of my everyday routine. I dust it lightly on the apples of my cheeks and eyelids. :)
The DVD is lots of fun and very informative- but beware! You'll find yourself
spending more $$ on minerals when you see all the gorgeous colors they use on the models. I know I did!
I had no idea there was a Problem Skin kit! I've looked everywhere and have yet to find it! :( However, this might be a good thing since I shopped 'til I dropped at Mario Badescu online. I'm so excited to try his skincare! :)

The problem skin kit is the MD stuff....more facial cleanser, etc. I can't remember what was in it. The kit is listed on the back page of the book that came in the box my starter kit came in, so look there! I'm just going to order it through BE over the phone...probably in a few minutes, since I have a major growth on my cheek! :(
I watched the DVD yesterday, and Leslie is older than she looks online and in the book!!! :D It was okay....it was nice to know I was doing it right.
I've really wanted to try this for a few months but have some questions that I couldn't get answered at the Bare Minerals website. How long will the starter kit last? How quick do you go through it? I read Ponine's (I think it was Ponine) post that said it was coming off even when she hugged somebody. Then Claire said that hers stayed on. Does it come off easily? My 4 y/o is always hugging and touching my face. I don't want anything that's going to come off everytime she touches me. TIA for the help girls!

Hi Kim! :)
I've had my Complexion Perfection Kit for almost a month and a 1/2 now, and I have tons left in my little jars! You'll find that you use so little of the Minerals, and it really lasts and lasts. And the jars inside of the kit aren't even the full size jars! I bought a full-size jar of All Over Color in Glee, and I was like, Holy Cow! This good stuff will last n' last! :D
I haven't had any trouble at all with my Minerals rubbing off of me, also! And I have oily/combination skin (mostly oily! :() In fact, when I was in the emergency room a few weeks ago, my minerals lasted through an allergic reaction to an intravenous drug (and my subsequent wonky behavior that followed) Cat Scannin', and sleep. When I was released the next day, my minerals were still INTACT. Amazing! :) One of the slogans touting Bare Minerals is Makeup so pure you can sleep in it! I'm big ol' stickler for always washing my face before I go to bed, but Bare Minerals does live up to its slogan. You can sleep in it! :)
It's the no make-uppy make-up. Trust me, you'll absolutely love it! :) :snap:

Lord knows what I said... I do notice that it rubs off. But I'm a big face toucher. I need to learn to break that habit.
Though, I have noticed that it also all depends on how much I put on, AND, wether or not I use the Mineral Veil.
That seems to 'set' the Bare M, and it doenst appear on tissues or fingers as much.
Ok, thanks Ally and Ponine. I'm going to try it. I've been wanting to for a while and you guys just squashed my fears. Thanks!

I'm also a face-toucher.....and the stuff stays put. When I use liquid foundation (everyday of my life for about the last fifteen years.....), no matter how great the quality--Lancome and Smashbox--the stuff always wipes off and doesn't last the day. Now that I'm subbing a full day of school, I notice that I don't look like crap by 1 p.m! Usually, I'd be re-touching by that time of day, but the bare minerals stuff sticks! I'll do a like dusting of mineral veil while I'm at work to take the shine off, or use my Sephora oil sucker-upper sheets, and I'm looking like I just put on make-up. It's really the most amazing thing!
I've only had mine for a week, exactly a week, but the jars look the same....like I haven't used any. Most times, a $30+ bottle of foundation will last me about five months to the day. The bare minerals jars are $25 apiece (I haven't seen the size of the full-size jars--cool! I'm glad they're not so small!), and I'm guessing they'll last me about the same length of time....plus if you buy the starter kit, you get two shades, all the brushes you'll need, and the warmth. The warmth you can mix into your foundation if you have more color in your skin in the spring and summer, plus there are other colors you can buy if warmth isn't your thing.
I can't recommend the starter kit enough. Definitely worth the $60, just for the brushes! :snap:

I agree with this completely. I was shopping with a gf when I bought my starter kit, and she bought piece meal... she's already spent almost twice what I did to get the same products.
I think that the product really has to sell itself. I say go into a Sephora, or like store, and have them use the product on your face, walk around for an hour or two and make your decision.
Thats what I did. It was hard for me to decide sight unseen.
I mostly needed something to cover my red, that wouldnt be tough to wash off.
Ok. I ordered the Flawless Coverage Club Kit with bareVitamins today. Now I can't wait to get it! Thanks for everyone's help and input!

~A~
Ok, I got it in the mail on Friday and spent the weekend playing with it. We went to SF on Valentine's Day and went to the Bare Minerals store and I had them show me how to put it on so when I got it, I had an idea of what I was doing. I was shocked at the warmth when I first saw how dark it was and that she was going to put it on me. Once she got the makeup on, I loved it.
The first time I put it on, I used too much. I'm amazed at how little it takes for the amount of coverage you get. I think I have it down pretty good now. And I love, love, love it. I'm loving how my skin is clearing up by not using the gunky foundation I had been using. It's been pouring down rain here and I'm not having a problem with the makeup coming off. I love how light it feels on the skin.
I thought the DVD helped a lot with reminding you what to do and how to do it and offered some great tips. It does make me want more products though.
Having looked through the catalog and visiting the store, there is definitely a price difference between the two. There were a lot more bargains (things sold in groupings for a better price) than what the catalog offered. I really want to head back to the city to shop again.
I'm really pleased with the purchase and how this is actually living up to what it said it could do.

Good for you, Kim! :snap:
I am in complete agreement with everything that you said. I feel the same way, too!
I'm almost due for a new jar of Mineral Veil & and foundation in Light. It's amazing how well it matches my skin tone! Instead, I bought just a little jar of eyeliner in Coffee Bean. I have a few more weeks to go until I'm in the desperation stages.
I love, love, LOVE Warmth! How fantastic is that stuff? I use it as a blush & dust it across my nose for a healthy glow. I don't tan during the winter months, so the Warmth gives me a jolt of color where I really need it most. I absolutely love Warmth.
Enjoy! I'm so happy for you! :)

I'm glad you like them Kim.
I agree that the hardest part is figuring out how much to use.
My skin is calmer since I am not scrubbing foundation off every day. And really, I sleep in it a lot of the time.
The more I wash my face the more I aggravate it, and the roscea gets darker.
Once I get the full hang of it, I'll be stying. But really, the people who see me daily think it was once of the best purchases I've ever made.

Way cool link, Clairebear! :snap: I was just playing with Philosophy's Supernatural last week at Sephora. I had seen it in the catalog, and was curious to see what it was all about! It comes in a very neat container.
There is another brand of Bare Minerals sold next to Bare Escentuals Bare Minerals at the Beauty Emporium where I purchase mine.I couldn't remember the brand name until I googled away. Lo & behold- Mineral Essence!
Shop away, Mineralettes! (http://www.baremakeup.com/premier_mineral_makeup.html)

How cool are these?
Lip Quickies! (http://www.baremakeup.com/bare-escentuals/lip-quickie.htm)

Well, I think I'm in the minority, I don't care for it all that much. I find it takes a lot to cover, it does not wear well and am I the only person who hates all the 9000 little jars you have to have and have to turn over to see what colr/type/item you have in hand? I do love the brushes. Not to mention with all the swirling, tapping and blending, more product gets all over the bathroom sink than on my face.
My roomie swears by Philosphy products, but I hate those too. I would not mind if thing were IDd with something remotely recognizable at 6am when I am bleary-eyed in the bathroom washing my face, but to me, "Hope in a Jar" "When Hope is Not Enough" or "Help me" does not translate to moisturizer (or whatever the hell it is). I don't think washing my face needs to be so complicated and hard at after 40!
But hey, it's just me. I still love Rachel Perry products for cleansing and for make up, Borghese colors are to die for, not cheap, but then neither is Bare Minerals.

I like it, but honestly I don't use it all that much. Only special occasions. What I do like is that I can't feel it on my skin. Liquids make me bonkers all day long because I can feel it and want to rub it all of.
I do agree with Snowflake that it can be messy, but since I'm not a daily user it's not such a big deal for me.
Not Afraid
09-07-2006, 02:11 PM
I don't like the mess of it nor do I like the way it wears on me. I have another "moneral" powder/base I got at Nordstrom's called "Cover FX" that is a pressed version of a mineral powder and it goes on smoothly and lightly. I've gotten to the point where I rarely wear more than lipstick and sunscreen lately and when I do wear more makeup, I'm usually doing it on the run. So, this brand works well for travel and is less messy.

I do it. I love it. Go to Sephora (or ULTA) and buy the starter kit. It will come with everything you need (brushes, 2 foundations, and an instructional DVD). It's an incredibaly good deal. Watch the DVD before you try to apply anything.
I don't find it messy as I only peel back a tiny bit of the paper over the holes. I also don't have a lot of jars so identifying which is which isn't difficult for me. I love how it wears and covers and my break-outs are near gone. I have bought the eyebrow kit as well as some additional blushes. I do not like the warmth that comes with the starter kit, it looks horrible with my complexion. So I gave it away (it was open) and sold the other foundation that I didn't use on ebay.
A little really does go a long way, it lasts so much longer than regular make-up.
The wonderful thing about Sephora, besides their huge display, is that if you don't like it they will take it back.
I really recommend it H.

I mostly only use the foundation though, not the warmth & mineral veil that came with the starter kit, although I do wear the mineral veil sometimes during the summer because it cuts down on "shine."
My skin is prone to break outs, and I haven't had any problems using Bare Minerals, so I guess it is non-comedeogenic.
I don't know why, but I've never had a problem with it being messy, so I can't really speak to that.....
Overall, I really recommend it.
