Babette brought my attention to the Live Panda Cam from the San Diego Zoo, where the 2 week old Panda Cub is the star of the show. I've been watching on and off since yesterday.

Today, the Cub was left along by mommy and I got a "snapshot" which I emailed myself.

http://photos.xenarchy.com/albums/userpics/10001/Panda%20Baby.bmp

The Cub also got it's first exam by a Vet today (there's a video on the site as well).

Go check it out. Here's the Panda Cam (http://www.sandiegozoo.org/zoo/ex_panda_station.html) and you can get the other links from there.

There are also 4 Cheetah cubs (http://www.sandiegozoo.org/videos/index.html)in the Children's Zoo Nursery that were abandoned my therir mom at the WAP. These, I want to take home. My GOD are they cute.

Lots of cuteness at the zoo lately.

Thank you NA for sharing our cuddly little bundle of joy with everyone. I am so in love. They said it will be about 4 months before we can actually see the cub at the zoo. For now we will just have to try and catch as much cuteness as possible via the net.

Congrats mama Bai Yun!

That panda baby is the cutest thing ever. If you watch the cam and you see him alone, like NA did above, you can see him wiggling! Wiggly baby panda! And then mommy comes over and she's so big and the baby is so tiny!

After a while, it's like my head is going to explode. Death by cuteness.

So, Babette pointed me in the direction of the Baby video section (http://www.sandiegozoo.org/videos/index.html) (scroll down to bottom).

The Bonobo newborn is so adorable and the Lynx is the cutest thing ever!!!!!!! (Well, what do you expect. It's a cat!). The Elephant (Feb 2003) is learning how to use his legs and looks like a real baby walking.

Then there's the "Pandas" video section and you MUST see the last one on the list: First Exam of the Year: Jan 2004.

OMG! This is the best site EVER!

I love the San Diego zoo website. Those cam's are awesome. I've been watching the polar bears and pandas for ages. They are too cute!

Was just there -- the zoo's looking pretty good, and the panda was a cutie, even if via black and white cam they have set up! Good stuff!

I had to leave my house today just to stop watching the video clips and live feeds. I am so totally addicted. It doesn't help that I just drank a Dr. Pepper - I'm ready for an all night marathon of sleeping baby panda. :coffee: :wired:

iSM I thought you were my friend. Please no eat baby panda :( [crossed arms, chin down, watery eyes, lip out]

I'm obsessed with that little baby Panda now! Thank you, NA, for sharing! :)

I watched the zoo cam last night and got misty eyed. I love baby animals. So tiny, all pink with little squinty eyes! And I love the way they stumble and fall. All like little Bambi's.

AND NO EATING THEM! Tsk Tsk! :p I won't even touch a lobster based on the wicked boiling habits my poor crustacean friends suffer. However...damn they taste so good. Sigh. :(

Why can't animals taste bad? It would make my plight so much easier. The plight I fail everytime my drunk ass orders beef nachos.

For shame, Ally. For shame. :(

We were there the last week in July...like three days before the baby was born. Sadly, we didn't get to see the Pandas...which totally ticked me off. It was Number One on my list...but the line was an hour wait long just to get into the enclosure...crazy! No one else wanted to wait that long.

So seeing them on video is as close as I'll get!

Sadly though, when we were there, there were no babies in the nursery. Which ticked Kat off..she was looking forward to that!

Lines to see the Panda's here at the National Zoo (DC) can also get ridiculous. We've developed a ritual of going to the zoo to see the panda's during the first big snowfall of the year. Almost no one else is there and the Panda's are out frolicking in the snow. Well, as much as panda's frolic. It's really more like walking back and forth but at least they tend to be moving.

I haven't been at my computer since friday and was having withdrawls. I was at a luncheon thingy today and some of the gals were tellling me how they have been addicted too. I sent them the link last week. So cute. My only complaint is they sleep too much ;)

Yes...I agree they sleep too much!

Kat and I are loving it! She's addicted big time!

We both find it amazing that the Mommie Panda never rolls over on her baby. She's so big...he's so little! It's amazing!

Awwwww! I'll have to check if there's a name!

I've been calling it a He for some reason.

No name yet. By Chinese tradition, she won't have a name until she's 100 days old. I read somewhere that they are going to somehow let the "fans" help pick the name.

We have seen the baby cheetahs, live and in person. This past weekend, during a somewhat impromptu trip to SD - impromptu meaning only planned about a week in advance - we went to the zoo and saw the baby cheetahs in the nursery during their feeding time. We meaning LSPE (Heidi) and I. They were beyond cute. They're at the stage where they can just walk, but not very well, and end up falling over and flopping around a lot.

The four were removed one by one from the "playpen" where they're kept and bottle-fed by their human attendant. The chosen cub would be held in her lap, being a litlte less than the size of an average house cat at this point, and would be pawing at her and the bottle in its eagerness to get at it. According to the sign at the nursery, they consume about 20% of their body weight every day, and as the feeding goes on, you can see their belly swelling and swelling, until at the end it's like they've swallowed a football.

At this point that cub was be placed in the the pen and the next one retrieved. The one just fed would promptly fall over and go to sleep, which presented a problem, as the cubs still in the pen who hadn't been fed were still rambunctious and very much wanting to play. We watched for the longest time as one just-fed cub tried to go to sleep while it's brother or sister kept jumping on it, falling over it, sitting on it, rolling on it, all executed with the lack of dexterity characteristic of its age. The poor fed cub kept laying its head down on the bed, where it would be asleep instantly, until the other came back and sat on it again. The one was absolutely determined to go to sleep, and the other equally determined not to let it. Unspeakably cute. We watched until all four cubs had been fed.

Which is to say, by all means go to the SD zoo and peek into the nursery if you at all can.

I"m so sad! We were going to go visit the cubs last week but it didn't work out. I will HAVE to go and visit them while they're still cute. Because, god KNOWS they justt get really ugly with age.
