I had a nice talk with a Union Steward this morning. SBC has been fighting everyone who requests unemployment, and since I would have a better chance of getting it if I quit than if I let them fire me I tendered my resignation at 9am. The company would fight me by saying that they had no choice but to fire me since I was never there and by saying I refused to do my job. Since I can prove that it had become a hostile working environment and my health (both pysical and mental) was sufferng as a result, that I had no choice but to quit.

I feel so liberated, like a 50# weight has been lifted from my shoulders. It was great seeing the shocked expression on my manager's face. I loved being able to walk out on my terms and not hers. I was told not to visit anyone's desk to say goodbye, but that didn't stop me from announcing it at the top of my lungs!!

Money will be tight, but in the end it is worth not being in that building!

YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had a similar work experience years ago, and I also quit. I filed for unemployment, they fought it, it went to hearing and I won.:D I was already working elsewhere, but I received back pay and the satisfaction of proving they were a crappy place to work. You go, girl!

Yeah! The personal satisfaction of thwarting their plans is probably worth more than the paycheck. Best of luck in the unemployment fight! Stick it to 'em!

Congrats. A job that makes you insane is not worth it! :snap:

So, SBC is hiring then? You must spread some Mojo around before giving it to Tref again.

Now that's comedy!

Congrats! Sometimes the best thing to do is quit. The relief you feel afterwards is so worth it. It'll feel like a million pounds have rolled off you're back. Just get right back out there and job hunt. Good luck!

Right now there is a class action suit being brought against them for denying disability and FMLA pay. I should be recieving notification about it in the mail. One of the things that Kathy (attendance manager, the one I handed my ID to) tried to get me to sign was asking me if I would be willing to testify on behalf of SBC if there were any court procedings. I refused to sign it.

David is in shock that I quit. No matter what I said to him before this, to try to explain things, I don't think he truly thought that I would be fired. He will come around eventually. I will go over and talk to our neighbor about it tonight. I know David will talk to Karl about the whole thing and Karl will tell him it is all for the best.

I haven't been able to get ahold of my mom, they are somewhere in PA and didn't answer their cell phone. I did talk to my sister who said, "It's about time!" Her husband works for Tehachapi prison (and other prisons) overseeing the motor pool mechanics. He is going to keep his ears open on when the State is testing again for jobs in our area.

Getting a job is the easy part. If things get too hard up I can go back to retail in a flash. I would rather be able to collect unemployment and take some computer classes at Career Services Center (free of charge). So for now I will be a Mommy and just enjoy being home.

ooooo! I just read my email and found out that I just won the lottery:

We happily announce to you the draw of South African 2010
World cup Bid lottery Award International programs held in
Zurich,Switzerland.
 I didn't even know I entered!

Just a quick update. I talked to a friend last night. She has 28 years with the company. She almost got into trouble on an observation for not navigating through her Model Contact the "correct" way. She also told me 2 people got fired on Thursday and 1 more quit. She said that our floor had a 15 minute office closure to discuss why the office moral was so low and what could be done to improve it. They (the managers) don't seem to have a clue that THEY are the ones causing the negative vibes in the office.

I am going to go to the unemployment office Monday to see about unemployment. I don't think it is going to happen, but I am going to try. The managers are getting rewarded for each unemployment request that is denied.

David is still upset/mad at me for quitting. Whenever I think things are going well he pops off with a snide comment about it. *sigh* I know that this too, shall pass. Nickolas loves having me home. He likes being able to walk home from school instead of going to day care. He likes finding me waiting for him, asking how his day was. They both like having me cooking again. David likes having the kitchen and living room picked up. The girls are even enjoying it, they are getting more attention during the day.

You might want to wait until Tuesday to hit the unemployment office, you might find it pretty dead there on Monday. (it's labor day)

Crap, I forgot. LOL, can you tell I'm not working? I can't even remember what the date is without looking at the computer.

from a customer standpoint though, are they good to their customers? Would it be worth it to switch my service to them, or would it be a bad choice to use them as my phone/DSL provider. Just wondering, because the DSL deal sounds pretty sweet, but don't know the company very well from a customer service standpoint.

I was fired unfairly from a job once. (lots of write ups missing my signature with refused to sign in someone elses writing across them. I had never seen them until i was being fired.) I apllied for unemployment. they said they were going to fight, but the day of the hearing i got a call saying they were not showing up and I got it!...:) I was so happy knowing I never had to go back there though. It was scary not having a job for about 2 weeks, but I was soooo heppy not to have to go back there. ironically the man that had be fired was also fired for knocking up an under aged employee...he also got divorced after that....karma...

They used to be a great company to work for, and to do business with. They no longer seem to care much for their employees and customers. The thing to consider with DSL (I just switched from cable to DSL in March) is that if you have to call in for any reason the calls are routed to India. I love my DSL, but it is slower than cable (except during peak usage times). So far it has gone down a whole lot less than my cable used to. It's a toss-up. If you do switch you may want to look into the Pro speed tier. It is faster than the one at $14.95, but you have to live close enough to your central office to qualify for it.
